Yes and it's up to the driver to recoup points for missing a race by either winning or finishing in the top five in the balance of the season. The waiver should be discontinued.
@@TheOfficialRandomGuy Kyle Larson got fired from the Team he was on. I think that was Chip Ganassi.. He got more than Suspended, I think he was at first Permanently banned from NASCAR. Eventually after some time they made Larson go through a re-Education Program and he had to do Community Service and write apology letters.

The NASCAR Rule Book covers eligibility in Section 12.3.2.1.A, which states: “Unless otherwise authorized by NASCAR, driver(s) and Team Owner(s) must start all Championship Events of the current season to be eligible for The Playoffs. If a starting position was not earned, then the driver(s) and Team Owner(s) must have attempted to Qualify, at the discretion of the Series Managing Director, for the Race.” Where in this, does it say a driver has to start a race, it clearly says event The event starts with qualifying, which Larson qualified 10th.. This just seems like thier kicking the can dowh the road.. Larson should been granted the wavier, soon as hendrick filed.. this was a no brainer.
Just get rid of the stupid waiver and play off shit and go back to just running for points so there's a real champion. Elton was like Biden talking out his ass. Says he was thinking about the fans that bought tickets but then said he didn't give a shit what the fans said on social media. Face it nascar is not the premier racing division.
The bottom line is they made the right decision. Nascar understands that the drivers bring the money, and that's the name of the game. If Larson makes the Championship 4, everybody makes money.
Kenny, you are the best !! But why are we surprised ? I'm from Cali, so nothing against Larson at all !! We all know HMS is Nasar's baby. Do you honestly believe if it was someone like a Josh berry, the waiver would still be granted ?
It was political and nothing more if they didn t fans and sponsors would start to bail in droves. It does beg the question why have such a 'rule' if you re not gonna enforce it.
You should have given him a waiver as much light as he brought to the sport not only Nascar but Indy car change the rules if people don't like it or understand they are stupid to of bigger races of the year and all eyes are watching
I wish Nascar would get rid of the playoffs and go back to the old point system. This would not be an issue if he missed one race he still could win the championship by consistency. And get rid of the stage racing. Especially on the super speedway's.
I don't mind Larson getting the waiver. What is messed up with NASCAR is that if it was someone else they wouldn't have gotten the waiver. Kyle Larson can wreck someone on purpose and it's OK because Larson would never do something like that. Kyle Larson doesn't have to go by the rules everyone else does because he is Kyle Larson and everyone loves him. Kyle Larson could take a dump at the finish line before the race and there will be a dozen NASCAR officials there to clean it up
Folks, this was “all” the talk for the better part of a week. That’s called free advertising. I’m not surprised at all by the decision. Maybe they should just get rid of the rule. I don’t know if that’s reasonable or not, so don’t beat me up. Unless someone misses a race because they were out drinking last night, I don’t think there’s many circumstances that should lead to a denial of opportunity to race for a championship. Especially if they earn their way in regardless
There should not be a waiver for suspended racers. They know the rules so they do something dumb to get suspended then that’s on them. This was totally different.
There was never any decision to make. Grant waiver, move on. Don't grant waiver, BIG loss to NASCAR, in every way. This was just Elton trying to justify his job.
Plus he obviously had no control over the weather that started in Indianapolis, which delayed the start of that race, which was the main reason that he wasn't able to make the start of the Coca-Cola 600 and then the weather that hit the Coca-Cola sixyou're that ended up. Having the race called.. None of that was in his control
Get rid of the point system. And the 4 stages.Just race like it used to be to be.All this new rules and regulations and stages are ruining the sport. It’s also causing friction between drivers. Can’t ever remember old school drivers having physical beat downs in front of a camera either.lol.

It rewarded being good every week, all year long, which is how a true championship team is decided.
@DiamondPaintWithDiamondDave Two things killed the season long points deal. People winning before the season ending race, and Kenseth winning the championship without winning a single race. It's not going back to the way it was.
A waiver shouldn’t even exist. Kyle was good enough with his wins and points missing the race still had him firmly in. I understand injuries happen. It sucks. Happens in all sports. Ruins teams seasons. If you’re good enough you’ll make the playoffs missing one race even. I know the argument is well what if other racers decide to take a week off. Nope. NASCAR depends on its sponsors for the cars. They understand injuries but not racing you will lose them. I bet so sponsor would be upset in larsons case as he’s getting them publicity running the biggest race there is
The fact a point leader could be cut from a championship tells me everything i need to know why Nascar is failing. Play offs and stage racing sucks. Just my opinion
Hey Kenny, my question. What in the world is Elton Sawyer doing as a NASCAR of Competition? LOL!! He barely competed, if that's what you can call it!! What a joke!!! Yeah, I'm the 71 year old guy that has been around since the late 50's, when you had to listen to races on the radio!!
Its the indy 500 Bobby, Donnie Allison, AJ foyt, john Andretti, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch. Larson still cant get a sponsor. Tiptoe around something he got. fired for in 2020 blacklisted by The United States. Playing a damn video game over a damn pandemic in a outside racetrack they can't fill 1/4 on a good day. The 600 will never be as popular as the indy 500 kyle running double gave Nascar as much publicity as indy. Nobody watches NASCAR to see Larson but his few fans. Everyone watched indy to see Kyle. Set a Precedent so that others can race Inday too .
That's pretty much what they did!
Smart move for NASCAR to grant the waiver. Let's go Larson. 👍
There was never a real possibility where Larson didn't receive the waver. So much drama over nothing.
So true and anyone with any common sense would know the outcome so just let it go enough drama
Maybe they figured out they couldn't faze Larson when he said he didn't care if he got the wavier or not
All Elton has to say is, we dont want to piss off these sponsors. Thats too easy though. Just like it was easy to throw phantom debris cautions.
Good to hear that he got it and they'll have a good challenge ahead of them since they need more points.
