I watch the migrant birds fly south from my new home in Eastern Finland by the Russian border. We get some amazing and rare birds here and its because the intensive farming never happened here and nothing has been sprayed. The landscape is almost 95% pristine which is unusual for a developed EU country. Land is cheap here. I have 2Ha of land something I could never have got in the UK where I only could afford a tiny house. I am proud to provide habitat and chemical free land for any birds who wish to forage on the land I am lucky to be custodian of. I feel so sad when I think that all the birds I have loved to see have to go and fly over the Maltese shooters. I work on the sea and I have a special affinity of the migratory birds. I have photographed a family of Short Eared owls making their way over to the UK in a very bad storm resting on the ship I was working on. Bless you Chris and Billy for caring for the wildlife :) and keeping a positive energy for hope.
Chris & Billy - most excellent! Billy makes key point about decline in nos. of house martins along coast (in West Dorset); luckily one can still see goodly nos. at a few sites further along coast e.g. in South Devon btwn Salcombe & Start Point. 🙂
