    Wow... you have convinced me to move my highlift jack! To be fair, when I got the vehicle, it was 'mounted' behind the front seats... with gravity only *sigh* so I had mounted it to the hood. It will be going on a mount I'll build on the passenger rear quarterpanel.

    Wow thanks! Great use for Hi-Jack, and the exhaust jack worked great.
    Really got me thinking about cons of a snorkel, but I still love the look of a snorkel...;-)

    My land cruiser is fitted with a 10" Donaldson Pre-cleaner supplied by ARB for the Safari Snorkel. It keeps the filter virtually clean in the worst bulldust and dirty conditions.

    Very informative and entertaining video, very good job of explaining the mechanics/technology without going overboard. That nice sharp shift probably helps the transmission life even if you're not offroading. Slip equals heat and shortening the life of the fluid and mechanicals. I'll take a transmission that is a little firmer that can last vs one that is smoother but wasting power and wearing out before it's time so to speak.

    It’s amazing how much he’s aged in each is, he’s almost like a different person now, even his voice is different

    4xOverland I had a 1995 nissan terrano r3m , that would out perform any stock 4wd. It was amazing, I was towing out Land cruisers, land rover defenders and anything else that came along on the trip with me. It could even perform well in rally driving I could get 1 meter of air on jumps at 80 Kph and it just handled perfectly.
    I seriously suggest you review these machines.

    This vehicle hit Africa with the aid agencies.Like the defender it has military underpinnings which has kept it agricultural. It was expensive both to buy and maintain but was favored by aid organizations when the defender went through a period of unreliability in the 1980's. It was less favoured as it is heavy especially with COG, jacking and recovery. it is thought to much more thirsty in comparison to the defender which is considered to be much more versatile in such environments..due to be updated by Mercedes soon to compete with land-rover in the military / lifestyle segments of the market.

    Be careful of that jack handle. If it slips while on the downstroke it will hit you in the head.

    That's why I love my old cherokee. Its got a snorkel, so as long as the wind shield doesn't go underwater than I'm good. Plus its my beat up piece of shit so I don't really give a fuck if water gets in. But I love that jeep

    did you ever get stuck with that 290GD? I own one myself with short wheelbase, and it has really small road tires on it. Im about to change that but its quite difficult because these 461s have really rare and special rims. Still, i managed to get through really tough terrain with these 205/80s. Car is incredible.

      Narrow may not look as good, but don't be fooled. Wide tyres are not better performers in off-road most situations.

      What tyres would you recoment? Im not looking for wide tyres, but for taller ones. Should be all terrain too.

      If on standard steels with 205 R16's (sililar diameter to a 6.50 R16), upgrade to 7.50 R16's such as the Michelin 4x4 O/R XZL, also available in 235/85 R16 if you have alloys (similar diameter to a 7.50 R16). BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 is very good also and available in 205 R16 and 235/85 R16. Pirelli Scorpion ATR and Goodyear Wrangler AT/R also good options. Look for side lugs - these are an important factor often ignored.

    I'm curious. Is this normal driving situation for Australia? I mean most videos I see are of this off road nature. Do a lot of people spend a substantial amount of time off road, to grant this kind of review?

    If you were leading the whole time he would have MUCH more dust than you. Not sure how close you drive but in the video shown here it was pretty close.

    • @overland-workshop
      @overland-workshop  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Obababoy It was only close for that one shot, for the photography. As a rule we were about one kilometre apart.

    Mercedes g class design should be changed. This car is not comfortable. I've ridden it a few times it's all about off roading. Quite tough car but not for urban usage.

    • @overland-workshop
      @overland-workshop  9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +m att They did change it, They called it the M-class. Or the GE-class. The G is a light truck, designed for off-road. Not shopping. And long may it stay that way.

    • @ma3ttia11
      @ma3ttia11 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree with u. the point of change is that its uncomfortable especially rear seats.

    • @QuinnHomes
      @QuinnHomes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which G-Class are you talking about? I have put a 100K on my G500. We have travelled on and off road in many different settings. Our G has ripped through snow, mud, dunes, sandstone Moab trails, granite mountain passes, and raced to Vegas without so much as a tiny bit of discomfort.
      In fact, the leather seats are adjustable in ways no person could need. The seats are heated to two stages.
      Is it possible the G you traveled in had a damaged seat?
      I challenge one to find a more comfortable and reliable off-roader using similar measurement standards.
