    In this beekeeping 101 video course, you will discover beekeeping basics from an organic growing perspective. Enjoy these beekeeping videos brought to you by Jacob Wustner and Organic Life Guru.
    This beekeeping basics 101 video is an excerpt from an online beekeeping course offering complete instruction on keeping honey bees using organic, natural and traditional beekeeping techniques.
    Beekeeping 101 was created over the course of a summer in order to capture a full season with the bees including lots of hands-on time in the hive. The course is intended to be a thorough introduction to keeping bees so that upon completion, the student can confidently start their own treatment-free honey bee hive. Taught from a permaculture perspective, this course will teach you a wholistic approach to beekeeping that considers the natural ecology of honey bees and agriculture.
    Beekeeping 101 covers it all from basic honey bee physiology and biology to extracting honey and preparing your hive for winter. In this course you will learn about different kinds of honey bees and equipment and where to get it. You’ll learn about bloom and brood cycles, swarms, hive site placement, queens and re-queening, planning your honey harvest, extracting honey and crushing comb, combining hives and much more. In addition Jacob will share with you his philosophies on disease, disease treatment, feeding, and small-cell beekeeping. As this course was filmed over the course of the summer season, lesson topics follow the flow of the season.

    Hello Chris my beekeeping friend, I have a question for you. Great video by the way.
    My first hives made it through their first spring/summer with zero SHBs, zero wax moths, and believe it or not, zero varroa!!!!! Yet, it's our fall flow and I know this is the time their rear their heads if there are any. My question: If I do find some varroa and end up having a count that should be treated, what would you recommend if anything. It's a thriving hive. I'm a natural beekeeper like you, and my practices so far is to make sure they have the vitamins and probiotics to stay super strong. Plus its a super hygienic hive. Any info would be helpful. Thank you so much.

    on an average about how much honey should be left for the bees to over winter

    • @beekeepingIsGood
      @beekeepingIsGood 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +ray5220 This can depend on the climate of where you are located, the type of hive you are using, and the strength of the colony.

      My hives have at least 2 deeps of Brood+Honey, but mostly 3 deeps are best in colder climates.

      Do you mean, dry needles?

    • @SaraPurvey
      @SaraPurvey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jila Mila it would need to be dry needles as green ones are next to impossible to get started.

    How is this organic if these bees are not local but Italian bees? That's one of the problems with bee keeping today.

      Organic doesn't mean locally sorced. Most livestock animals are from other countries..

      Thomas Hare EXACTLY..ALL THEY DO IS LISTEN TO FALSE TEACHING THAT KILLS BEES AND TELL EVERYONE ELSE THATS HOW U DO IT LIKE THEY ACTUALLY KNOW,THESE PEOPLE ARE WORSE THAN VARROA....

      The genetics of honey bees doesn't determine if it's organic.
