  • September has arrived, but it is still high summer in Sofia. Noon is one of the busiest arrival and departure times - all major types of locos represented. Trains leave and arrive and the busy 55s take away the coaches - including TCDD coaches from the morning Istanbul-Sofia service. The Liebherr excavator is also here, levelling ballast.
    Locos in this video:
    00:25 - Series 31 (Siemens Desiro EMU) - 31 017 & 31 018
    01:05 - Series 80 (Siemens Smartron) - "Tsar Samuil"
    02:00 - Series 55 (LDH 125) - 55 165
    02:45 - Series 31 (Siemens Desiro EMU) - 31 007 & 31 008
    03:30 - Series 44 (Škoda 68E) 44 178
    04:45 - Series 55 (LDH 125) - 55 058
    Bonus:
    05:45 - Liebherr 900 Rail ballast grading.

Beautiful trains! Yes, it's September and it's hot summer here in Arad (Romania) too. Have a good evening!

Thank you! Romania is always hotter than Sofia, when I travel. But autumn is coming. Have a good weekend!

I see You have spent quality time trainspotting in Sofia. Just one question, in case that I might one day come to film to Sofia, could You tell me at what platform at Sofia Central is the best spot for filming? I mean there are two sides of rail station, at which one there are the most rail traffic ?

I live here, so it is easy to drop by the station at lunch (I don't even go through the passenger terminal). Where to stand is an open question and depends on which arrivals/departures you want to capture, plus there is on-going track replacement and re-arrangement. But I would recommend platform/track 8 or 10, because all maneuvering locos and any transit cargo train would pass through track 9 in the middle. The higher number platform tracks is also where the incoming traffic from the Northern line 2 (Varna, VIdin, Mezdra etc.) would arrive. If you want to catch the east-bound trains to Plovdiv and Burgas, as well as Istanbul, you want to be by the lower number platform/tracks or by the terminal building (right now they pass through a single track conveniently located by a parking - seen here: th-cam.com/video/095H4W0HHLM/w-d-xo.html). Another Bulgarian TH-camr did a great drone overflight video of the entire Sofia station construction site last week, from it you can get an excellent idea of the (current) track and platform layout: th-cam.com/video/N2ugc5_GXxA/w-d-xo.html
