It's because we're sick of busting our butts for scrap wages. 40 hours a week for a job that can't even pay the rent. Millennials are sick of it and we are quitting because we deserve better.

Capitalist, corporate exploitation at work. I can count how many lawmakers at the national level who _actually_ care enough about this to enact the reform necessary just to bring the level of income inequality to where it was in the 50's, when a man could get a factory job straight out of high school and earn enough to support an entire household. One of them ran for President, and nearly won the nomination. Twice.

Time has changed drastically for the worst, in the time of millennials and gen z's. Working hard is no longer working hard, we are literally slaving our way though work and life with little pay. All perpetrated by the WONDERFUL conservative, republican regime, that has a 'STRANGLEHOLD', on the VAST MAJORITY of us employees, here in the United States 😔!! We have been getting F*CKED, out of the American, 'dream'🇺🇲!! This has been 'pro-quo' for the past 75, or so years. The gap between the wealthiest, and the welfare 'poor', is the biggest, ever. There's a definitive, pattern forming 🤔!!! The ONLY difference is now, Americans are WAKING UP, to reality. Our leaders, who we are supposed to trust are bed partners, with conservatism!! TIME FOR CHANGE 👍!!! The United States is now, 7th., in first world countries 😔. And we WILL continue to recind economically, UNTIL we dump our REPUBLIC (AND the republican, reign), and switch to SOCIALISM (NOT a bad, word)👍!!!! I think everyone got too comfortable working from home during the pandemic. I currently work in Houston. Once our city was in Code Yellow, the CEO for the company I work for required everyone working from home to come back to the office full-time. The people who got too comfortable working from home tried fight it and refused to come back to work. They ended up immediately getting fired and are getting replaced by people who actually want to work. Now that we are all back at the office our productivity has increased at least 10x. Nothing beats teamwork when everyone is working together face-to-face.

They were way, way too many complacent individuals just trying to make a living or working overtime when they have children home but they needed the money too much. This actually was a good thing for our society. Sometimes you have to shake the dice to get some good results.

Unequivocally true. Things are 'a changin'! For decades we've been full on slaves, barely scraping by, working harder, more and longer than our distant descendants. Work has gotten safer, but it has only become safer from a physical safety standpoint, it has become ruthlessly more dangerous psychologically. Unprecedented deaths by intentional overdoses and suicides in general, the largest numbers EVER. People are desperate for change, they are hungry for it and will klll for it.

    • @briankennedy3038

That's why you should not accept being paid less than you think you deserve. If a company is not willing to accept your terms of payment, then move on to the next company. You also have to realize that us as employees don't take on any financial risk if the company doesn't succeed. The company takes on all of the risks. They have to pay for the property, utilities, the equipment used to produce goods, shipping costs, tariffs, potential lawsuits, marketing costs, exhibiting at trade shows, and paying employees. The cost of running a business isn't cheap and is very risky. Companies usually have less money than you think to pay employees. A lot of profit has to go into reinvesting into the company, like R&D for new products, buying large stocking orders, and paying for prototypes for new products on top of the things I mentioned earlier. We as employees don't have to worry about any of these risks. We just show up to work, do the best we can and get paid.

The youngest of the baby boomers, the largest generation in history, are about to be in their 60s & a million people just died of Covid. Workers can afford to be picky when there are more jobs than employees. Global population decline isn’t going anywhere any time soon. The corporations better learn how to adapt quickly.

When the pandemic hit I was bartending part time and I was working a second job as a PCA in a nursing home while in nursing school. I was fired from my PCA a job because I had nowhere to put my children. I applied for a CNA position and got my CNA certification and worked with directly COVID-19 patients. I did not know that I could’ve collected unemployment when I left my PCA job and my bartending job. I was basically fired and hired the next day. As a single mother I felt like I had to do what I have to do. I was working 60 to 80 hours a week taken care of 35 to 40 patients daily 12 hour shifts with not slot of help. I was so exhausted and I was ready to break. I eventually quit that job after a year and a half and went back to housekeeping that I’ve done years ago. That company ended up screwing me over when my son got sick. All my other coworkers were allowed to call out all the time but when I called out and I asked to take care of my son for a few days because he had the flu they wrote me up. After working 60 to 70 hour weeks busting my butt. Eventually we were all laid off due to the company downsizing and going virtual.. Now I’ve been to 22 job interviews in the last two months. And I have now taken the stand and not going to let future employers push me around and not allow mean to work with the schedule that I want. Right now I think working part time and finishing my nursing degree would be the best option. I’m cleaning Airbnb‘s online. I may just enough to pay my bills and I’m a lot happier now. When the right job comes I’ll take it.

Our city just went to code yellow so there's no reason to work from home anymore. The warehouse workers all worked through the pandemic and are all still working hard. Most of our marketing team that barely worked during the pandemic bitched and complained when they had to come back into the office. They even tried to refuse to come back to the office so they ended up all getting fired. Now we are hiring more productive people who actually want to work and help our company recover after the pandemic nearly destroyed it.

Here's a rough draft of a poem that I quickly thought up, that I believe would describe the feelings behind the mass resignations, and which I believe could be adapted into song:
    I'm not employed,
because the work is too grueling
for what little pay that I'd receive.
    I'm not being educated,
    because I wouldn't afford
    paying back my student debts.
    I'm not in training,
because I know that someday soon,
my job will be taken by an automaton.
I'm living the proud life of a NEET
and I'm lazily enjoying all my free time.
    Who needs employment
when you can passively make money
    by writing a nicely-selling book?
    Who needs a college education
when you can surf the web
looking for things to learn for free?
    Who needs an apprenticeship
    for a poorly-paying corporate job
when you could be your own employer?
Who needs all of that when you're a NEET
with all the freedom to spend your time as you see fit?

It’s not so much the pandemic anymore, but money. A lot of companies can’t afford to keep up with the massive inflation. Finding a job that one can live off is hard anymore. All I can say is good luck to these people. You can thank all of those who have been mishandling the pandemic and all the other problems that have existed for over two years now for the mess we are in. Things like the inflation must not bother the politicians too much since they make more money than the rest of us. It’s sad what the ones who are supposed to be in charge are doing to us. They care more about the money than they do their job

Per the April 2022 Bureau of Labor report there's 5.9M people that want work but aren't looking right now. Since they aren't actively looking for work, they aren't counted as "unemployed". 5.9M is an increase from about 5M that left the labor force after the governors shut down their economies when the pandemic began. If you add the 5.9M back to the Civilian labor force, the actual unemployment rate right now is 7%, not 3.6%. These 5.9M holdouts are also contributing to the inflation, due to unnecessary worker shortages as attested by the over 11.549M jobs openings available and 99.513M not in labor force. Compared that to 6.9M job openings and 95.082M not in labor force back in Feb 2020 right before the governors' shut down their economies.
The BLS data is black and white. You're being hoodwinked into thinking this is a good economy. If you need further evidence look at the food stamp participation. It went up 1.3M since the end of 2020 on top of the 4.177M people that went on it after the governors shut down their economies. Nearly 5.5M more people on food stamps after the pandemic started, and 5.9M people not returning to the labor force but they want to. Coincidence? LOL
