    All you were saying about buying the bike so you didn't want to upgrade was the same for me. Had it in rain mode for at least 3 months. Then opened her up on sport mode and loved it. Honestly the bike has enough tech to handle anything well if you're responsible. Too bad the only thing they missed were auto cancelling turn signals. Waiting for it to finally stop raining all the time or being cold in Ohio. Need to get the riding season started off strong.

    Hi Jeremiah, I fully agree with you. For beginners I would recomend to go Rain-Standard-Sport or personalized User mode ať the end. This is too powerfull to have fully loaded 1100 for rookie...... I have began on Vulcan S and it was really good training for Rebel 1100. Have a Nice day

    Thank you for commenting about how it works for your size! I'm about the same and have been wondering about it because of all the videos about putting different shocks on these motorcycles. Most riders in these vids seem to be around 180 lbs.

    I rode few bikes before own a rebel1100.. for 3 years, one of them was a NC750 DCT. Im still pretty much a beginer and i would agree that a rebel1100 its a perfect bike for beginers. Will save you a lot of money on the long run, i rode a rebel300 for less than 1k miles ahah

      Rebell 1100 which one would you say is better, the Nc750x or the Rebel 1100? I'm trying to decide between the two for a good highway commuter bike

    • @motovlogjoni
      @motovlogjoni ปีที่แล้ว

      @@afocusedsouljah if you prefer a cruiser yes the rebel could be a better option for your taste.
      As a bike... i think the nc750 its a better bike.
      140kmh on the rebel its a pain.. on the nc you can handle easely 170kmh with a nice fairing, but mainly comfort and wind on the legs NC its better.
      On the rebel you have a 200km fuel range, on the nc you have almost double.
      Nc its more fuel efficient (smaller bike.. of course lol)
      Nc has a helmet compartment.. very usefull.
      However i love my rebel design and hate NCs design, already own the rebel for a bit more than a year and didnt have courage to sell my NC yet.. its such a perfect bike. I know few people who have NC750 2014 dct.. still running like new after 200.000km
      For higway.. you have better HP on the rebel yes.. but NC better to keep the speed. Comfort, dynamics, range NC its better, i think at the end will be more about your ^looks^ preference)

    I agree with you. I just got my rebel1100 2023 4 days ago. I passed my msf course. Having DCT will help me be aware of my surroundings better. I dont have to worry about 2 other controls. Even with 1000ccs, i can grow into.
    Saw the 500 and 300 and 1100 next to each other... 500 looked like a baby bike for a guy my size (6 1 200lbs).

  • @johnwicks4936
    @johnwicks4936 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    No, it's not a great beginner bike. I've been riding bikes for over 40 years and this is not for beginners. The power on this bike can quickly get you into trouble when you are an inexperienced rider. The bike has a tendency to kick out around corners when given some power and the throttle is quite quirky which can cause you to accidently give too much power at slow speed. Yes, you can put the bike in rain mode to really limit it but who really is going to do that for very long? There is a reason Honda makes a Rebel 300 and 500. The 1100 was brought out specifically for Rebel owners and fans who were ready to move from beginner bikes up to a more powerful bike.
    The bike also has a speed wobble problem at speeds over 80mph which some say can be fixed by a change of tires but most new owners don't immediately put new rubber on a brand new bike. Speed wobbles are extremely dangerous for newer riders as they will not know how to react to this and I can attest to the fact that the first time it happens to you it is quite scary. Again, there is a reason why this bike has a speed limiter on it.
    I always tell people to go out and buy yourself a used cheap bike that is small and easy to handle for your first year or so to get confidence and to keep insurance low while you are a novice. Once you are confident, go on some ride days to try out different bikes and then make your investment because as a new rider you really have no idea what you are going to like other than what you think looks cool. (What looks cool often is not what you end up liking) If you are a very mature rider who will truly respect the power and quirks of this bike you may have the discipline to keep in in dumbed down mode for your own safety but most people don't fall into this category.
    This bike is a joy to own but it is a torquey bike designed to cruise with performance bike type handling. I can ride this bike like a sport bike through the curves when I feel like it which was important as I moved from sport bikes to this. It's quite heavy for it's size and I truly believe this should never be your starting bike. Just my opinion.

    • @therideofalifetime
      @therideofalifetime  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with you I didn’t want to get a 500 and upgrade in 3 months. I knew that I could be mature and disciplined myself to keep it in rain mode until I was ready.
      I’ve never got the speed wobbles myself and I’ve taken the bike to 95 on the highway. I have heard a lot of people say that tho.
      Other than that I agree with you. Everyone is different. I knew this bike would work for me and my situation so I went for it. Thanks for your comment it is good to have another option for people to read. 🤘🏻

    I suppose I'm just commenting to add another vote of "aye". Rebel 1100 manual is the first bike I've owned (about 4 months now) and I'm really enjoying it. Drove it off the lot in Rain Mode then switched to the other modes a short time later as my confidence built. I had ridden a bit when I was in my teens (mostly dirt bikes) but essentially a brand new rider.

    I’m going through the exact same process, where I’m about to take my MSF course but have really settled on the 1100 but don’t know if it’s “beginner bike” material! Thank you for this video. I have a couple questions.
    For someone like me who’s very new to bikes and doesn’t really understand cc’s, is 1100cc too much power for a beginner? I keep seeing comments and posts on Reddit or other YT videos where experienced riders kinda shame new riders for learning on something over 500 or 650cc.
    Is the DCT quick to adjust when you brake for an unexpected slowdown? I live in a big Midwestern city with plenty of bad drivers that I’ve had to brake for quite often in my car.
    Can you take off the front “nose”? I love the look of the headlight cowl on the Rebel 500 and manual 1100 and just think the DCT one looks so doofy.

    • @therideofalifetime
      @therideofalifetime  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1100 is a lot of power to get used to but it depends on the weight of the bike. The rebel is around 500 pounds so a bike that weighs 700 pounds at 1100cc is going to perform different.
      The rebel is and isn’t a beginner bike. You have to factor in cost and the power and your personal ability. I took the msf course and I didn’t have any experience in between. And I rode the bike home. So each person is different. When I went into the msf course I did a lot of research on how everything worked. I’m also a musician and I play drums so I’m used to using all 4 my limbs. So whenever you do your course I think afterwards you will get a good feel if you are comfortable riding a rebel 1100. There is no shame in getting a rebel 300 or 500 to have less power and it cost less too. I just had a goal in my mind and set it to that and did it.
      I don’t have a DCT model so I can’t speak for that. But I know a lot of riders that have them and they live in the city and don’t seem to have that many problems.
      As far as the fairing/nose as you are referring to I believe.. it doesn’t come with that, it is an added feature. I installed mine myself so yes it can not have that on there if you choose. That’s the great part about bikes is everyone has their own idea of what the want their bike to look like.
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    I'm in the same boat, just got a 23" in the metallic green *basically black o.O* which is my 1st bike, these are a dream to ride, just throw it in rain mode and go, get use to the throttle etc and change the modes when your ready, and tbh rain mode has a ton of power when you actually need it.
    Also! for anyone doing there own oil changes *I would it saves you a TON of $$$* on the DCT models, the DCT oil filter *it'll be the smaller filter on the side* don't go by what the manual says for the torque settings when tightening down the bolts, instead tighten them down to 5-6 NM, Not foot pounds, the manual says 9 foot pounds of torque, how ever that is actually wrong as those bolts will Snap at that point, I ended up snapping a bolt and had to replace them. They're M6x18mm, replaced mine with titanium bolts lolz.

    Had a rebel 110 DCT - BEWARE
    I owned a rebel 1100 DCT for a couple of months and had a major, major problem. I had my bike service at 450 miles. On my ride home I noticed that the bike DCT transmission was engaging while I was stopped. I ignored the issue hoping that it was an one off. After riding the bike for ~200 miles the DCT transmission engaged again while I was stopped and the bike transmission/power over rode the braking system (Front and Back brakes) and took off. I tried with all of my energy to stop the bike but it wouldn't hold. I ended up crashing into a wall, broke a couple of ribs and my collar bone. I do not know if this has happened to anyone else? There is no clutch to override so BEWARE and practice hitting the kill switch!

    old fart here 62 yrs old retired looking to ride a motorcycle for the first time.. I have allocated 1k in gear more than half of that towards a helmet. I am looking for the one bike to own and thats it. I am not looking for a sport bike cause I am old and have no business trying to look cool for other ppl to flex on. Been told to stay away from Harley's and stick with Kawasaki/Honda, I don't want to get the Rebel 300 or 500 and after riding it for a year and get rid of it. I am considering getting the 1100 DCT version ride it in rain mode for a year or until I get my comfort and skill level and switch it to sport mode. So what do you think ? or the Honda NC750x DCT ?

      I just road the DCT for the first time this weekend and it was so easy to ride. I don’t think the weight of the bike is hard to get used to at all. If you take it easy and learn with the bike slowly you will be fine in rain mode. It’s a great way to work you into the bike. Install some crash/engine guards for more peace of mind.
