    At a great fishing venue outside Droitwich the owner, a guy over 70 years old, was beaten up by a gang of eastern europeans who poached on his lakes for carp a few years back. He was so injured that he sold off his lakes for fear that he'd be killed next time. That's no way to end your career.

    These guys don't fuck about. There's not such thing as "taking circumstances into consideration" a few years ago, I was new to fishing. I was on a free stretch of a river, had my licence and was fishing for trout with a friend. Along came a baliff and issued me a ticket for using maggots. Apparently there is a bylaw against using maggots. Baring in mind I had the cheapest fishing gear sports direct could supply, and me telling him I just started fishing... After my day in court I got a £327 fine and a criminal record

    I do buy a rod licence every year, ever since I was old enough to need one,, however, I do begrudge it, because virtually none of it spent on the waters,it is a tax on a tax, it goes into the coffers of the government department and squandered on all and sundry. Furthermore it is one law for them and one for us,, people are prosecuted for transferring fish, and or pollution,, but the E,A are biggest culprits,, I recall a few years ago they released and supplied a huge quantity of deliberately bred fish, from their stock,s, which proved to be diseased and wiped out a lot of private waters they had supplied,,, did they then prosecute themselves ? No is the answer,, and as far as I know, none of the private waters that were infected were compensated either!!

      I’ve often wondered that... so I contacted them to ask them. They said in the north of England most people purchase salmon and migratory trout licences so apparently all the money goes into upper courses of rivers that predominantly contain salmon and sea trout. That’s how they can justify only giving a **** about one part of the country/river and not the other.

Yer I believe its my right as an Englishman to fish our rivers And I will usually see my arse if some toffee nose thinks they own a stretch but I catch and release and leave no trace and that's my way .. I do get angry when people think its their right , don't pay, leave beer cans and rubish, have a general bad attitude to natures wellbeing. In the UK we do have a problem with migrants raping fish stocks in certain areas and other wild life, most of these people will never work so continue to take take take and there is only more coming over here so to help prevent the rape of my forefathers waterways I'm not so insular to mind paying for the license and do my part so there is fish to catch in the future.

    I have bought a Rod License, and the local river one since school. Nowadays I probably get a line wet about 6 times a year If I am lucky. We have suffered from the Europeans netting local pools and streams, and taking the Fish out. They don't get the concept of catch and release. Before they came In numbers, We could fill three or four Large Keep nets full of Fish overnight, After a year of them coming, You are lucky to fill half of one now. Glad they are all heading back. Local Carp pools wouldn't allow them on to Their pools. We don't have a Tackle shop In the town now, They pack up and shut shop cause of them stealing In there all the time. Now I have to travel to the City for kit and Maggots.

      I've bought a rod license for the last 35 years, I only fish the local rivers, the Don and Rother. In the last 10 years I've had to contend with gangs of Roma fishing every single day through the week, taking decent fish out, lighting fires on the banks, leaving cans and litter, etc. I put fish back, there is only so many in a given swim and I often catch the same fish week in week out, a commercial wouldn't allow them on, would they? I'm paying to fish, as well as Roma to contend with, I've got Yorkshire water releasing raw sewage in to the river, the bankside trees are littered with tampons!

    What a lot of people dont know is that you can take up to 15 fish, up to 20 cm long, a day from any river in the UK. Most rivers are stocked with fish, if you have a license the fee's go towards up keep of the water, it also provides permission to take 15 coarse fish, up to 20 cm. 1 pike up to 60 cm. 2 grayling up to 30 cm, I think. and any fish for live/dead baiting as long as they're used there and then.

    The problem i have with this whole system is that you have to pay for a rod licence to the government, then you also have to pay for a licence to fish a particular water, and you're not allowed to keep any fish! If there's so many licences needed, then anglers should be allowed to take fish.
    Why don't you work on the same principle the National Trust works on? People buy a rod licence, and then the government pays the venues where people go and fish.
    And i'd also be curious to know what exactly are anglers paying for with all these licences. Is anyone ensuring there are plenty of fish in the waters? ALL the waters? Is anyone ensuring there are good fishing spots set up everywhere? That there are facilities at every fishing spot?

      Is it worth it? Depends you couldn't afford food and didn't want to go to jail, that's fair and honest on the other hand you could go to jail and get more meals and luxury than you could probably afford now haha

    'why do I need a rod licence....'it's a tax on my hobby' - the money from buying the rod licence means your hobby is thriving - 23 million pounds raised goes only to environment agency, IT IS NOT A TAX. Rivers are de-polluted and weirs etc are kept up and/or broken, invasive species are removed all so so fisheries continue to prosper. Pay your licence fee.

    Environment Agency fisheries enforcement officers have powers of arrest, carry handcuffs, use a baton and are constables under an act from 1975 (can't quite remember name!). So yes he can caution arrest and strike you with baton. Also we don't have 'rights' in this country,it is called a caution. Miranda rights are in the USA.

      MOOSEDOWNUNDER Is it because they get assaulted by members of the public who fish illegally, like Eastern European peasants, who think our fish is their right to poach?

      ee imagrants have no problem with taking , eating our fish. and will stab assault any one who trys to stop them. thats why police and EA wear stab vests. i have witness ee netting my local river for fish. they then sell or eat their catch. deports the vile scum suckers.

    • @portcullis5622
      @portcullis5622 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is an "Asp baton"? The asp is not a native British fish, but I suppose they could be used as a baton if rigour mortis had set in.

    • @MarineAqua45
      @MarineAqua45 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Portcullis Its an American-made baton, which is portable, as it consists of a handle & a retractable metal-pole, which is telescopic, that could extend to 26” in length or more.

  • @OnTheBait

    I personally think it should be down to lake owners to check for licenses. Police for arresting on disturbing the peace and attempted theft when a poacher is caught out.

    • @OnTheBait
      @OnTheBait 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No license no fishing. River banks should be down to water agency obviously. I think it's wasted police resources walking about fishing lakes when there is far more important criminal activity.
