New Yorker here. To anyone who thinks these videos aren't staged: do not just walk up to an attractive New Yorker and start asking them how much they pay for rent. It will not lead to them cheerily agreeing to take you back to their apartment in the middle of their day, like they're not busy. It will just lead to you in handcuffs for being a fucking creep. All of these women are 100% vetted before filming. I do not know why the premise of "I got a tour of an interesting apartment" has to be presented in this weird, creepy, reality porn style, but hey, 'the internet,' I guess.

But the saddest part about it is it highlights the housing crisis in New York (and a lot of other places) that the best option for people is becoming to live in their car due to lack of safe and affordable housing. The city I live in Australia also has a housing crisis, but for what the average NYC university student is paying would get you a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom family house here with lots of space. Even in Sydney (where the market is terrible and there is also a housing crisis).

Those vans are not cheap to build at all … it took her at least 1 year NYC rent or more to build. I was going to convert mine and it would have cost about 40k to do and the van is another 30k so do the math
Because real estate in successful cities is always very expensive. It is the trade off, better jobs, better opportunities and more people who want to take the transport and a house.

We’re seeing a pivot back to midsize cities or towns with remote work becoming the new norm. The homelessness and disparity between the have and have not in these cities is also very visible on top of the crime. I wouldn’t consider that city a success.

Housing /mortgages have only gone up in value, prices are easily manipulated by the state and banks still own your home at the end of the day, whereas a converted vehicle will always be the same price and owned by you the only thing that may change is the gas prices.
There is actually a street in Brooklyn that has a bunch of people that live in vans. IT's a dead end street by the waterfront. So there is safety since they look out for each other. This was not a random meeting. That's where she lives. It's called van alley.

@@Digitalhunny na she probably spends less than 1k a month to live in her van much more affordable than a studio in ny which is like 2k and up , im converting one myself its kinda the future of housing rn to convert a vehicle or build a tiny home. Housing /mortgages have only gone up in value, prices are easily manipulated by the state and banks still own your home at the end of the day, whereas a converted vehicle will always be the same price and owned by you the only thing that may change is the gas prices.

There is actually a street in Brooklyn that has a bunch of people that live in vans. IT's a dead end street by the waterfront. So there is safety since they look out for each other. This was not a random meeting. That's where she lives. It's called van alley.
