  • One of the biggest challenges in heart disease treatment involves the five million people living with heart failure. It is the most common reason patients are readmitted to U.S. hospitals. But the Health Center has implemented protocols and guidelines that have helped reduce readmission rates and now ranks well below the state and national average. Dr. Jason Ryan, cardiologist with the Calhoun Cardiology Center, is interviewed by NBC Connecticut's Yvonne Nava about how to better manage the disease through lifestyle changes and medications in an effort to avoid hospitalizations.
