    Avid marlin lure maker and we have found that instead of using the latex skirts that are expensive and hard to find in our area of Costa Rica we use boat seat vinyl. Inexpensive and holds up for about 10 to 15 big hits from the pelagic fish. Great video.

    Question where do you buy the sheet or tape for inside the lures? I have no luck with a few I have tried. They crack with the heat. Thxs

      Hi Trent, thanks for your comments! I will pass them on to Larry. The moldmaking material is High Strength 3 silicone from Makelure.com. You need to keep the mold/resin in the pressure pot long enough for the resin to turn rock hard. Otherwise, air bubbles can re-expand in the resin. The time depends on what resin you you, but usually is between 1-2 hours. As far as a insert size, that's up to you based on how you want to present the sure. I would recommend leaving a minimum of 1/4" around the insert for the over-molding resin.

    Larry,
    Hoping you can help on a pet project of mine. I've been told all the "Tungsten" weights and jigs are being imported presently, and I'm trying to locate the tungsten "dust" and the rosins they use to create those items. Would you please ask your sources as mine have run dry and I still have no real answers. Many thanks - and BTW I'll be trying your Marlin rig scaled back for our Albacore off the Oregon Coast! Terrific Idea!

      Makelure.com actually has the tungsten powder and resin that it can be used with. Glad you liked the Marlin rig! Here's the link to the tungsten powder: www.makelure.com/store/p/959-Tungsten-5lbs.aspx

    The mold putty says it has a temperature range reaching only to 395 F. You poured lead which is much hotter when melted. Is there anything special I need to do for the mold putty 15 to take molten lead?

    is there any difference in the blue mold putty your using vs the alumilite yellow mold putty you can buy in a hobby store?

    • @MakeLure
      @MakeLure  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, any of our silicone putties can be used for this application. The only difference between the two is the cure time of the putty.

    When sanding the lure head, are you using wet sand paper only?

    • @MakeLure
      @MakeLure  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend wet sanding if you are using any type rotary tool or lathe to sand and use plenty of water. The more cold the better. You want to avoid heat buildup. If you're sanding some minor imperfections by and, you would likely be fine without water.

    Use to be a customer of Alumilite , but when they flashed a BLM message on there TH-cam page i stopped. Not once in my many years on their TH-cam channel, did i see them post a message about an officer shot in the line of duty, guess only when it fits the right narrative, and that makes me sick to my stomach.
