KAHUNANI NO ʻŌLAʻA
Affectionately known to Kalani as Mama is his maternal grandmother, who hails from ʻŌlaʻa, Puna, Hawaiʻi. Kalani lovingly writes of his aloha for her stalwart demeanor and exquisite elegance. However now in her kupuna years, Mama is afflicted with Alzheimers. Nevertheless, Kalani would fly to Hilo to visit Mama. He’d gaze into her eyes and sing only to her. Soon thereafter Mama would smile for Kalani, leaving an emotional impression upon him, and the recollection of her precious moʻopuna would linger for only a short time.

I've always enjoyed watching Natasha Oda's performances especially when she became Ms. Aloha Hula. Not only a beautiful wahine but so much talent. Mahalo Kalani, I've always love all your mele(s). Last year I taught my halau "Hilo March"..for our International Folk Festival back in September 2019. Again, it was a successful performance here in North Carolina.
