I saw the Prodigy the day after this interview was shot. Whatever Keith was going through that shows on his face and demeanor here, it didn't show on stage whatsoever. He was awesome as ever. He was right down in the crowd at one point, freaking out security, like he often did. I like to think the shows at least temporarily lifted him out of it. He lived for the music, the performance, the buzz.

RIP Keith, you are greatly missed mate. I had a chance to say hello to you in the 90s, but I was so starstruck that I couldn't speak and I will always regret that. The Prodigy are hands down THE greatest dance group all time, no one will ever compare. Only Prodigy could bridge the gap from dance to rock/metal and to have fans across the genres.

Today I had my first psychotherapy with intention to finally overcome my trauma and constant insecurity that root from my childhood. Prodigy has a been a big part of my adolescence. This is the kind of the music you play when you have rough times. It was the first time I was so gutted due to the death of the famous person. RIP Keith, feel so sorry that you lost the battle with yourself. May you find the peace in other world...

I don't know your history and many will disagree, but this is just my opinion. I suffer mental health problems and find them more prevalent in people who use/used illicit substances. When you have felt so good as a result of drugs, reality can be a major come down. Also, no one knows the long term effects of these things. I'm not saying don't enjoy yourself. Just do it in moderation and remember there's two sides to a coin. Hope you get the help you need.

I dont get why people who do what they love can have depression. Seriously. I have a depression because I couldnt find job which I will like, ended up in f*cking retail, because I needed money. I finished good uni, I wanted to get jobin the office, but everyone who took my interview were like: but why u applied if u dont have any experience. WTF? So how can I gain experience if noone wants to hire me. It is not fucking power station.. it is just an office where u can learn quick and easily! damn.. even writing this makes me feel angry. I just can't believe it. Still. I'm completely gutted and heartbroken
    😢💔 Gutted gutted gutted.
    RIP Keith..
He's been such an important part of my upgrowing life and teen years.
They were the only band that's ever succeeded in bringing dance/electronic/rave/breakbeat/industrial music together with rock. This combination was and is unique until this day. And since I was on the alternative rock side before Prodigy came into my life, I met my best longtime friends trough Prodigy. They were into this 90s dance scene. So we emerged and became friends. Still till this day. If it wasn't for Prodigy I would not have met them.
In the 90s growing up, ravers and rockers didn't want anything to do with each other really. But Prodigy changed that and those two different backgrounds started an important conversation.
And so we all got the best of both worlds, didn't we? Forever grateful. Rest in Power Keith. Your energy will be with us forever. ❤️
Let us promise to never forget him. I haven't read one bad word about him. That's really nice. He was such a kind hearted softy behind this Warrior scary attitude.
I've seen Prodigy many many times. Starting their concert/festival journey in '95 (I was only 11 going on 12 then) and until this day I wouldn't want to have missed any of their gigs. The 90s were great. Their performances in the UK in the 90s were just mindblowing. I am so lucky to have witnessed them in that period of time. Since some of my family live in England and mom and dad came round to visit quite a bit.
    🎶❤️💪🏼DEATH OF A PRODIGY-DANCER.. AND A TRUE WARRIOR ❤️💪🏼🎶
"Too weird to live to rare to die," Hunter would say. And I agree.
I hope Liam and Maxim will grab Leeroy sometime in the future and give us fans one last gig to remember and honour Keith. A true innovator and Fire Starter.
    One Love for Keith. ❤️

8:37 Flinty's eyes flash to Liam when Liam says "when the fire goes that's when we're finished", and then he looks reflective for a while. Maybe he felt his fire had gone. That's not what I saw from him, but maybe it's how he felt. I'm devastated. Flinty, man, we miss you.

@Joseph Kony - child kidnapper WarLord Prophet I disagree. If they wanted to do that they would have thrown out albums all the time. But they only did one every 4 or 5 years after the 90's, so they were waiting till they had something they would put the Prodigy name to. Invaders, Enemy and Tourists are awesome albums. There's no way they had anything less than huge passion for those songs when they played them live, you can see it.

For those wondering about Keith in this video looking a bit off, lost, vacant, this interview would have been just after his split with his wife, Mayumi Kai. This is quite possibly what is on his mind in this interview and having to face long interviews like this and then set off on a long tour for a year with the prospect of having to sell your home would be enough to make anyone super depressed. Probably a million things he could have talked about if only someone bothered to ask. RIP Keith :(

Just my 2 cents... both Keith and Maxim look like they feel a bit 'useless'. They sit there as Liam's stage puppets while he talks about their music all being his work. On 20:03 Liam literally says he doesn't think of vocals as a performance, more as sounds. Being Maxim or Keith, that in itself would feel VERY insulting to me. Especialy after all these years kickin 'vocal' ass all over the globe. Almost as if they are just 2 walking/talking samplers... wtf? I know very well Liam is the musical mastermind behind the band but I think they would have never gotten this far without the vocal PERFORMANCE of Keith and Maxim. Their vocals + stage presence contributed just as much to their succes as him making the beats.

I've read a lot of the comments on here concerning Keefs demeanour in this interview. You have to take into account that when this was recorded they had just played Glasgow, followed by Nottingham the next night and were then playing Brighton that night. They all looked a bit knackered and tired. Keef was engaged when talking. I think people can read something into this video, but only with hindsight. Depression can affect people in different ways. I've suffered on and off throughout my adult life and some people don't understand that you can be happy and chirpy one day, but then it hits you like a wave and you wake up the next day not wanting to do anything and feeling incredibly low. Keef ran the Chelmsford Park Run on the Saturday of the weekend he took his own life and set a personal best. Who knows what triggered his decision. It's just incredibly sad for all family friends and fans. I've been lucky that I chose to confide in someone, which saved me from doing something drastic. The important thing is for blokes to talk about it and look out for their mates....

A lot of people commenting on how sad or lost Keith looks here. If I was watching this interview yesterday, I’d have said he looks fine, a little bored maybe. When you watch it knowing he killed himself a few months later, it totally changes how you see it.
I remember the same thing happening when Avicii died - people commenting afterwards on how he looked depressed in interviews. I’m not saying these things are not true, I’m just saying a lot of the time people who are depressed aren’t obviously depressed and the signs can only really be seen after they’ve killed themselves. A sad end either way.

He always credited his wife with having saved him from his life of addictions and depression, and he spoke of how they enjoyed a simple life in the Essex countryside together, with walks along the lanes and picnics, and enjoying the wildlife that visited their garden. Having had all that, a wholesome and nourishing life, surrounded by nature, with a supportive and loving wife...maybe after he lost all that he just didn’t want to carry on anymore.

It's an NME interview which he's done countless interviews that are always the same thing, with now basically kids half his age who haven't got a clue what it was like back in 2000, never-mind 1990 - of course he and the others will look bored. You would think in a situation of existential depression that people would just get out of their current life and change what they are doing or where they are living. Same thing happened with George Michael. Infinite choice and wealth. Could have changed course, start volunteering. open up a school or medical centre in a developing country and allow connection with the search for meaning or purpose.

I'm used to read people and reaching conclusions on why they act the way they act.
Keith not only looks tired and pressured, but as I gather more information about the last prodigy's work and Keith's personality, I start finding more and more disassociations between his values/beliefs and his latest work. What I see is that not only he doesn't believe what he's creating and promoting, he's against it.
Everytime I look to his face in here, his expression is saying "This is so fucking pathetic and meaningless, I should turn down what I'm doing".
Don't go against what you believe in, kids, it can kill you from the inside.

    • @RossBayCult
      @RossBayCult 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

AnimexBoy7 you brought up a great point and I was thinking the same during the day as well. He got wise and calm. To keep up the act as a wild, feral, “on edge” performer wasn’t really him anymore. I think the excesses of youth was finally gone and now he started to question who he is and where he is going from here. Then he’s still with the band reliving the last 20-25 years again and again and he looks “so over it.” As if to say, “I’m done here fellas.” I really wish he just called it a day and retired from the music business, looked for another interest that gave his life a new meaning and desire. He had the motorcycle team, but maybe he needed to get away from the public eye in general. Easy to say this now. But if someone doesn’t open up it’s impossible to help them.

Nicola Figini I think that’s a good point. I cant speak for the chap but I’m going through a breakup of 11 years. Never underestimate the pain of a long term breakup. I’ve had shorter reles when younger and the pain didn’t touch the sides of this. I luckily don’t feel that level of despair where I’d do something silly, but I can see how you could. Especially if inside he felt she had “saved him”. When a rele goes and you feel like that you lose half yourself. Its actually Co dependency. The sad reality (because it’s too late) is he saved himself, not another person. But if your feelings tell you otherwise it’s hell. Poor chap.

    • @victorfrances
      @victorfrances 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@AnimexBoy7 You really made a point from almost all your message.
@theprodigy were a mindblowing band on the 90's, for me one of the best electronic sounds. But that time finished and nothing of these new modern kind of more saturated beats were as similar of the 3 first albums of ravy, acid, punk, techno essence beats that were brought in the beginning of raving times.
Keith at one of his last interviews talked about how money came into escene to destroy all rave and clubbing loving early days we had, so creativity was destroyed as well when mainstream arrived, it is an evolution of things on this world.
So, I have to go against your last point and say: Stop what does not make you happy anymore, unattach yourself from what gave you the most; succces, money, fun, happynes, glory and find yourself in a new stage of life, doing new things, working on you, risking again and who knows maybe coming back to remember old times with a different perspective but not attaching of what you were 20 years ago, this does not work as life is a continue change and challenge, so embrace it and be strong to support what life is.
Rest in peace Keith, you were a hero, a rebel, a passionate, a soul who gave us such an amazing and good vibes with all your madness at the stage and personality. I honour you brother: LOVE.
