Turkey offered administration control of Cyprus to UK in 1800s but retained the ownership.. This was in return for a promise from UK to offer protection to Turkey from Russia. When WW1 started Turkey joined the other party because they couldn't join Russia.. and UK decided take full control of Cyprus by voiding the previous agreement they had with Turkey. So where there is smoke there may be fire, but where there is border conflicts, there is definitely UK 😀
