    Thank you John for covering this. I was born and raised in Austin and my mom and dad lived in Allandale neighborhood for years. Used to hit Sixth Street for years as a teen and it was always a bit ominous but very seemingly safe in the 70’s and early 80’s. My son attended UT Austin for last 4 years and he and his friends were well aware of Rainey Street murders. I’m interested in True Crime and investigative work - so this is a great piece. Thanks again.

    I am a former LEO in Oregon. We had a potential serial killer in the 90's that was convicted of two murders but suspected of possibly 30 more. Former long haul truck driver. Look into Scott Cox, he is out of prison now and paroled near where the Mill Creek victim was found. My gut just keeps screaming that someone needs to look at him. Look him up online, there are several articles about him being suspected of multiple more murders. He was paroled to Yamhill County.

      If I remember correctly, John Arthur Akroyd hunted along the Hwy 20 corridor in the 80's and 90's. and worked I for ODOT or one of the highway maintenance crews in the area. That's certainly not the 18 and 22 corridor near Mill Creek but it wouldn't surprise me if Cox, or someone like him, could be working out there at this time. I've traveled and ridden those roads so frequently that I could do them in my sleep. Even now, with the population boom of Portland and the surrounding areas, including Salem and the Willamette valley in general, there are stretches of highway out there that are very low profile and would be an incredibly easy environment for a predator to operate in. Thanks for comment and checking out the show!

      Portland here...he was paroled? Why? 😖 this makes me crazy. There are people who will never get out of prison alive and didn't murder. The sentencing sometimes makes no sense. Incredible. I'm sure he's reformed though...🙄

      I work in a warehouse a block away from where Ms. Speaks was found in Ridgefield. Dollar Tree's distribution center is directly across the road. You'd notice the property if you were there delivering or local. There's no reason to be there otherwise. It has to be a truck driver or delivery driver that scopes these local spots.

      @@miapdx503 He was a frequent flier in the jail for years before and even at the time he was caught. Model prisoner, always a trustee or on work release. We were stunned when he became a suspect. The murders were out of the Portland area (sex workers), but he resided in Yamhill County (Newberg). Newberg is approx 45 mins/an hour south of Portland. I believe he is now in the Sheridan or Grande Ronde area (don't quote me on that, I no longer work for the county). We actually had to move him from Work Release to Max Security at the time of the arrest for the murders if I remember correctly.

    Thank you for talking about these cases. I live close to Portland and believe based on timing, location of bodies that were found this could be tied to a serial killer. I always hope that it's not true, but do we want to ignore anything that links them together. 100 miles is no big deal in this area, it's really small if a person knows this area.

    Homeless people really know their area. They spend a lot of time wandering around, seeing who comes and goes and what is going on. Like Dustin said, you certainly get shifts of people. For example, dog walkers/joggers etc, people just knocking off work, the lunch and dinner crew etc, the Friday night/weekend party people, If that helps people understand what he's talking about.
    Sounds like there are a lot of vulnerable people late at night on the weekends, who could be drunk or drugged, right next to an unlit and dark waterway/green area.
    What a very unusual choice for commiting suicide...

    • @deadmanswife3625

      Yes and like prostitutes and drug dealers there is a lot of communication in this network right alongside the John's some who are pimping and some from outlying areas wealthier people who own businesses and come into the populated areas for services quote-unquote

    • @dustinranck7388
      @dustinranck7388 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    12:12 - "Even if you're still near the bike path, if you make your way down to the waterfront, in some of these little 'access points'. Man, I mean, there's a lot of foliage... there's trees, there's bushes. You know? There's a lot of obscure line of sight. Plus it's dark too, it's black as night."
    Yeah a killer's 'control zone' or 'control area'... yeah sounds like a perfect place for that. Austin has neighborhoods with high rises and high density urban. Part of the problem with this dynamic, is overpopulation; as the cranes keep making these high rises, the hiding spots, the shadows between the buildings.... gets even darker... combined with a high population (with subsequent high rates of homelessness along with it); this could become a 'hunting ground' if you will

    Recently there was a video ["Soft White Underbelly" channel?) about a fellow who survived John Wayne Gacy. The man told of being a street smart young teen in Tennessee. Gacy visited the community more than once. He invited the teen to his room to have a beer and the boy soon realized Gacy planned some kind of bondage. Anyway, this man noted that there had been a number of drownings of young men at the local lake and it was his opinion that not all these cases were accidental.
    This reminded me of the rumors about the Texas lake, that a number of young men have drowned. Maybe a Gacy type offender is operating around there.

    My middle daughter was homeless (or houseless as she told me they like to say. For the last 8 years of her life. We live in Portland Oregon, but she lived up and down the West Coast. She liked the lifestyle. There is a lot of closeness in the community. I wouldn’t like it. But I am not a camper in summer. Thanks John! I'd say that you have the best general info on TH-cam on the six recent Portland deaths starting at 51:00 and a great way to possibly confirm a serial killer at 57:00. I just want you to know that two of the six dead women (Kristin Smith and the unidentified woman) were both found on SE Favel St separated by 2.2 miles, so we're not down to the 0.25 miles that you warned about, but it is getting close.
    I also wanted to mention that your reference to the Green River Killer (Gary Ridgway) and how these types of killers do ridiculous amounts of driving sounds frighteningly accurate. And, partly because of that, a killer of this type might take a while to repeat on a dump site. Here, it is possible that SE Flavel St (off I-205) is already a repeat, but he was willing to drive about 2 extra miles to keep things a little separate. Please do come back to this set of cases again. I'd guess that, based on your experience, the more you study the details of these six women, the more convinced you will be that at least two of the cases are connected.

      Yes, some basic security measures would certainly seem appropriate right? There is so much information and observations that can be made just on those two cities alone that we ran out of time. It's definitely an important topic although whether its relevant to the men in the lake or the murdered women in Portland, we just don't know yet. What we do know is that displacement creates a high degree of vulnerability amongst other things, that can be conducive to separating people from their pack, thus making them susceptible to all kinds of predatory behaviors. Thank you for watching!

    @Patriot_Lady1776 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think it was on the Reckoning Co where she does energy readings (psychic - intuitive) on mysterious situations, and she said some things about this Lady Bird Lake k!ller. She said he's working with another couple who pretends to be arguing and when the male victem walks by - he thinks he's helping the women out from a DV situation. Then he's k!lled and drug a mere 30 yards into the water. Its a new angle - one I haven't heard yet.

    • @dustinranck7388
      @dustinranck7388 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be tricky from a logistics standpoint to create that scenario. If there were a couple arguing, with the idea of luring in a mark, it wouldn't take place anywhere Rainey St. It's busy there, like really busy. It would draw a large amount of unwanted attention and there would be no way to get them onto the path near the water without LE being called or multiple sightings and descriptions from patrons and locals. Not to mention, a recurrent ruse, from the same people would be beyond obvious. From the end of Rainey St., the Colorado is right there and the likelyhood of anyone getting dragged to the water without being seen would be at the extreme end of improbable. Rainey St. opens up just a bit before you hit the walking / biking path so there is a large field of view that would not be conducive to carrying out something like that. It's an interesting angle, that tactic goes way back and is still being employed too. Removing a mark ( in that scenario ), from the scene requires a higher chance of success and a lot more discretion, something that Rainey St. doesn't offer. Thanks for scoping out the show!

    The last 4 days I’ve been in Vancouver Wa. I was out smoking close to the hotel. It was Tuesday evening around 5:30 pm. I noticed a man walking past me. I didn’t see him for a few minutes after he walked by. Then I see him in an old 1990 ish red Chevy ( not sure if it was a suburban or a trail blazer. Out of no where I see him in his suv. He gave me the creeps. I noticed him watching me. Once I notice him watching me I left the place I was smoking and went back to the hotel. He followed me and watched me. I was so scared. He at one point got close to me and I said “what r u looking at” he said nothing. I saw him circle the hotel a few times and then he left. It scared me so bad I didn’t go outside for the rest of the night.

    College town, notorious for drinks tampering, victims found in body of water, large number of victims... Im getting definite "Smiley Face Killers", vibes. Do you know if any of the victims made phonecalls/left voicemail. Were any found with shoes or phone close by?

      Sorry I'd written my comment before I watched the entire video, so was a wee bit premature & mentioned the "phones" before the video got to the part that you mention them. Do you know if all the victims had indeed D/wnd, was there water in everyone's lungs? Sorry if I'm being too graphic for anyone. The similarities with the "Smiley Face Killers" are there, to me & I'm interested to find out if there are anymore

      Hard to say on the SMK angle but the phone thing interests me quite a bit for many reasons and shoes come off in the water all the time. I can tell you, that, while the SMK thing could be a possibility, it's highly improbable. Gannon may have been onto something with it, what exactly, I don't know and he seems like a super smart guy but there's this one thing.... Criminals, let alone multiple bands of them, either acting individually or in a coordinated effort, have a tough time of keeping quiet. They almost, though not always, talk / brag to someone about it. The sticky part is that they are actually criminals and the people they lay this stuff on don't want to say anything for good reason. They circulate in similar social or family groups and don't want to get clipped for talking to LE. In a group, or multiple groups, there will always, and I mean always, be a weak link. Or several. It would be monumentally difficult to keep something like that a secret without someone finding out about it or someone talking, getting popped on some other charge and using that intel to save themselves or someone caught slipping online. Again, possible, but in my opinion, improbable. Thanks for the comment and checking out the show!

      @@dustinranck7388 I have to agree, the silence maintained over years is definitely problematic to the "network of K/llers" theory. But that being said, there's something strange with a high majority of the cases. Could it be a cult? Possibly. The deliberate "posing, positioning" of a number of victims has occult vibes, phones & shoes found nearby as though placed there. True crime is a point of interest for me but I'm definitely not a sleuth, by any stretch of the imagination. So the finer points can be overlooked by me, hence coming to people like yourself & John for insight. Whatever it is that's unfolding it's deeply troubling & tragic. I hope people much more capable than myself get a much needed break in the case & bring those responsible to account. For justice for the victims but also protection to prevent further victims. One question before I go, do you think this will repeat until the K/ller is caught? Thank you very much for taking the time to read my comment & replying such a considered response. I really appreciate it 🙂

That being said, Austin is historically a pretty chill place, especially when I was working clients down there. We would hang on 6th all night and roam around and it was never an issue. It has always been a huge party town though. With all the progress, building, the pandemic, population growth and the level of displacement and disconnection, not to mention, it's just harder to survive, it's not exactly a mystery why shit is going a bit sideways. It's still a really cool place, but the actual infrastructure and support for those that need it ( basically everyday peeps ), just needs to catch up a bit.

      Being from P-town, you are correct. In fact, there was a missing prostitute from the Seattle area whose pic was posted years ago on the Clackamas County Sheriff's Missing Persons website. She was believed to be a victim of Ridgway's but she was un-accounted for. Turns out, her remains were discovered up at Government Camp on Mt. Hood just a couple years ago. Ridgway was known to also camp in that exact area. She was a dead F-ing ringer for this missing girl but in fact she went missing from Southern Oregon in the 70's. My point being, as John mentioned, mileage doesn't mean much to these guys and with all the wilderness there in the NW, there are a lot more secrets in those woods, guaranteed.
