Great tip, thank you. Question: how do you stop the charcoal blending with paint or minimise this happening? Cheers. PS your art is fabulous. If I wasn’t on the other side of the world would love to see it in person.
There are a few ways to minimize charcoal from mixing into your paint: I use as little as possible I blow away the excess charcoal, which still retains a faint line of the charcoal deposited on the canvas Or I can replace the charcoal lines with graphite because graphite sticks to the surface better. Thank you so much for your comment!
Saw your gamsol info while searching to find the best holder for it, thank you for mentioning oleogel there. Can I use oleogel in place of liquin? What do you think about using Turpenoid? Also, does the type of charcoal pencil matter?
Love the painting beautiful colors.
Thanks!
Please make a video about the only oil brushes you need.
Lovely composition.
Thank you!
Cool! I’m a super beginner in oil painting and I’ve done this thinking that it’s wrong lol

Turpentine is unnecessary and more toxic than odorless mineral spirits. And no, the type of charcoal pencil is not something to worry about.
Good tip!
What brand vine charcoal do you use
Windsor and Newton
Thanks! Maybe soon you could do an update supplies video
