The Green Dress was seriously ahead of its time. Someone needs to pay homage to it and wear a copy of it to a major televised awards ceremony.

As a young PR person working in downtown Minneapolis we had the thrill of seeing MTM and her husband at least once. They were filming a show open in the third floor restaurant above the Crystal Court of the IDS Center. That's just across Nicollet Mall and 7th outside the iconic Dayton's store where she tosses her hat in the air.
    A statue memorializes that moment.
RIP dear lady and thanks for all you meant to us!

My guy friends tease me all the time about watching reruns of Mary Tyler Moore.
They can't understand how I could relate to a sitcom about a single woman dating back to early 70's.
It was much more than that. The show is like spending 1/2 hour with your closest friends or favorite coworkers.
Also, Mary's life was relatable, whether it came to everyday struggles, her love life, triumphs and disappointments.
And the dialogue was so brilliant---sharp, witty, and a cast full of characters like a close friend.
In the end, it was the humanity behind each character that makes the show relatable and memorable.

I feel that way about the Bob Newhart show. My husband doesn't like the show because he doesn't see a lot of action. I explained to him that it appeals to people who like to read - for people who appreciate witty, dry, or very subtle humor. A play on words, turn of phrase, double entendre, etc. Most of all, though, those shows were little plays about the different ways people could create meaningful friendships and even families without going the traditional route. They were especially heart-warming and inspirational for people who didn't have family (which was the case for me) or people who didn't want to get married and have children.

I am only finding out Mary passed now. She (in the MTM show) inspired me to be optimistic about my future as a early teen when here (in Ireland) during the 70's things were looking very bleak economically. When I eventually did make it after all I would sometimes think back to that insecure kid sitting at home watching the show and give her a silent thank you. Loved her Mustangs too.

I've adored the Mary Tyler Moore Show since I was a kid. I have to say, this "tribute" seemed half-cocked, sadly scripted and totally phony. Why bother if it seems like they're all full of crap? Stumbling over each other, talking over the clips, very weird.
RIP Mary, you were a gem and thank you for all the laughs!

there were 168 episodes and they keep picking the same 3-5 episodes as "favorites". I am sure some producer told them what to pick. the first, chuckles, the last. Maybe the green dress made by the hooker episode and the "put on a happy face" episode where Mary has bad luck all week leading up to the Teddy awards. So I agree. Half hearted, stilted and scripted "tribute"

We were all coming in to the same airport and picking up our baggage, and Ed, who did not know me from a hill of beans at that point, insisted on carrying one of my (very heavy) suit cases. I was very moved by that simple gesture of help. Which was totally unnecessary: I am a much much younger man (who has worked out for years), yet...he just wanted to help and show he was part of "the team". A very sweet person indeed. I am we remember the celeberties that went before us that shows respect which alot of people don't have.Old tv shows made us laugh and cry and theyallwere enjoyable to watch. They werebased on family values. Now most people don't have that or respect or morals
They focus on hatefulness, negative, evilness, crimes, racism, and everything else drugs, killings.Back then everyone got along now too much corruption not good for our children .Don't you agree ?what happened to people that had love, caring ,and kindness, andrespect for others.

This GMA segment was uploaded only 5 years ago, but half the hosts now would be canceled for their behavior.
Still, Mary Tyler Moore was amazing. She was came off as hilarious, smart, strong, and sexy as hell.

I loved MTM. The kinds of show that just gives me a good laugh every time. I much prefer these sitcom than what they're putting out today. Only Ed Asner and Betty White are alive today.

Awwwww....nice tribute. Ironic that this was done on GMA....and ABC NEWS show....wonder how CBS handled Mary Tyler Moore's death. I've recently seen some older get togethers of the MTM show cast, including Mary, on both the TODAY show, with Katie Couric.
