I finally reached 100 hours in Persona 5 yesterday, so after singing along with this in the game for that long, it's nice to finally have a version of my own recorded! Today you guys get TWO Persona 5 covers from insaneintherainmusic and I - we hope you enjoy this version of "Beneath the Mask," as well as "Last Surprise" over on his channel! It's always a pleasure to work with Carlos, and I'm especially thrilled to have done some music from my favorite game of the moment. Thanks for listening! :)
insaneintherainmusic I'm curious about your choice in drums to be honest. Specifically, the original hits the bass right after a rim shot off of the final beat. What was your reasoning towards putting that beat on the 2/4?
Not sure what's different here - the snare in the original was on 2 & 4, as is the snare in this arrangement. Sounds like there might be a ghost note before beats 2&4 in the snare part in the original, but I opted for a simpler "acoustic hip hop" arrangement with this!
insaneintherainmusic Yes, in the original version, there's a hit on the 16ths before 2 and 4 leading into the more forceful snare hits on the offbeats you have here.

I'm so used to hearing the original artist pronoucing "Shapeshifter" as "Shap-chef-ter" (presumably cause of the singer's Japanese accent) that when you pronounced it properly, there was some whiplash lol Awesome cover!
After idling in the game just to listen to this song for a collective fifty hours, I expected this cover to be somewhat dry with little to offer. I don't believe I can possibly express how glad I am to be completely wrong. While your voice is beautiful in all of your covers, when accompanying the arrangement provided by who I consider to be the best jazz artist on TH-cam, it transcends the definition of the word. I've had this song on loop for days on end and it's the perfect thing to accompany my life. Whether I be doing less than pleasant work, dealing with rather annoying banter in my classrooms, reading a decent book, or trying to max out my compendium, "Beneath the Mask" is the best thing to go along with all of it. I both believe and hope for this fact to remain true well after Persona 5 has faded into obscurity.

Funnily enough, when I first heard this song back in 2017/2018 (when my friend first played it - I didn't have a PS3 or PS4 yet), I actually got chills. I thought this game had a whole different tone, and I thought this song played in the middle of the game when you lost your powers (which obviously didn't happen). I still love this cover to bits.
I was kind of expect a solo saxophone play at 1:16, but other than that, beautiful work! The calming music and your sweet voice smoothed my whole body, just like enjoy a warm chocolate cup while watching the rain.
