    As The System Alliance expands they find themselves biting off more they can chew in The First Contact War; an unfortunate incident that will go down as the official First contact between humanity and an new alien species.
    Join me as I dive into the events that would define The Alliances formative years, as part of the galactic community.

    Not even attempting contact with an unknown species just killing them is not a great move.
    The reason why it wasn't allowed to open mass relays was because off the rachni incident if I remember my lore correctly. For the Alliance the opening of new relays was a way to learn new tings as that is how they got there in the first place.
    Maybe not the smartest move but mostly innocent from the Alliance while the Turians just did go to the kill. I can't blame the Alliance for retaliating after.

      Turians can pretend all they want they just can’t resist having a fight!
      When researching this video the information on how the conflict began was scarce. This is why I think many would love a First Contact War game.
      My theory is the Turian patrol commander was one of these pro aggressive Turians who was just spoiling for an excuse to attack.

      I think it could make a good movie. I don't think there would be to many characters from the games so casting wouldn't be to painful.
      It wouldn't be good most likely but if it was it could bring more attention to Mass Effect like how the Fallout show did to the Fallout games.
      What is the point of having the strongest fleet if you don't use it?

      Then an end credit scene of Caville as Shepard as he is the king of the nerds :D
      It is much easier to make a film if you have a set point, making one based on the trilogy would be hard, it would have to be a TV series and would be hard as people would complain about Sheps gender and paragon/renegade.

    Shout out to human fighter carrier vessels. Council races only used fighters as scouts or long range interceptors in small numbers to augment cruisers and dreadnoughts. Ww2 on earth demonstrated the vulnerability of "big gun" navies to advances in aviation. Swarms of strike fighters could do a lot of damage at a lot less risk of men and material.
    When the alliance counter attacked, swarms of fighters carrying torpedoes launched and overwhelmed turian capital ships. They closed in evaded the weak fighter defenses, and slipped disruptor torpedoes through the shields and hit the shield emitters themselves. Same for engines and the main guns. The ships weren't destroyed but were effectively neutralized and were sitting ducks for alliance vessels.
    The tactic stunned the turians and council races and the rushed to quickly adopt fighter and antifighter capabilities.

    And Humanity's introduction has so, so many more impacts. In a short 26 years between the First Contract Was and the events of the First game, they introduced several new technologies that changed combat, both on the ground and in space. My favorite of which lore-wise is Medi-Gel. It's technically illegal by Council laws against generic engineering (this info comes from the in-game Codex entries), but it's far too useful for military forces, including all Cidatel member and council species, that the council can't order it banned.

    Such a great piece of world building that shows how corrupt and incompetent the council are. At best you could say the Turians assumed it was Batarians that were attempting activate the relay, but even in real life police are required to identify themselves before taking action even when it would be disadvantageous to do so. So the Turians had no excuse for firing first. Not to mention the war crimes they committed and received no backlash for. If humans in ME1 pulled a stunt like this they would’ve received punishment, likely sanctions or even having their embassy closed on the Citadel

    The fact that all contact with Aliens is not just within living memory, but a direct experience of basically anyone the same age as Anderson, is not well presented in series. The turians were absolutely in the wrong on this one. There was no attempt at dialogue with unidentified ships from an uncategorised species.
    Perhaps that is simply how their culture and military operate. Or perhaps the person in charge of the ships that intercepted the Alliance attempting to open the relay was more trigger happy than most.
    While unending curiosity and a thirst for ever more resources and territory are parts of human culture, which is why they kept opening relays. As you said as well, humanity were not aware of the existence of the Citadel species and thus did not know about their laws regarding relay activation.
    It would be like going to another country, not realising there are laws regarding how you open doors, and the police shooting you because you opened the door wrong.
    But the fact remains, the turians shot first and didn't bother to ask questions until later. They also showed no regard for civilian life, though that may be due to their culture where everyone is part of the military, so they lack such a distinction. I'm also fairly sure that using orbital debris and/or asteroids etc as impact weapons is forbidden or heavily frowned upon by Citadel law.
    If that was the case, that means the turians shot first and ignored any other first contact protocol regarding an uncategorised species, they then used illegal weapons against a civilian population as part of terror tactics.
    Not sure how anyone can look at this and think the turians weren't entirely or fully to blame.

    • @genericscout5408
      @genericscout5408 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Turians being very hostile makes sense if they assumed they were going to be attacked anyway. IRL soldiers when they encounter people they aren't familiar with can open fire as protocol if the other people get too close even if they're just women and children. Break down of communication between species would be enough to open fire, if they were assuming the other side is trying to ram them.

  • @TheLiamis
    @TheLiamis หลายเดือนก่อน +35

    Not a good idea to just start a war with an unknown species. Turians were lucky that humans were not far more advanced. The smart move was to open a dialogue explaining why relays cant be activated.

    • @Vaprous
      @Vaprous หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Oh the deal is we actually *were* that advanced; the extended ME lore basically goes like this: the council at the time was getting reports that basically amounted to, once they realized who they were actually dealing with, that humanity by itself could fight all of council space to a draw or a slim victory; and it was basically going to require uplifting the Yahg to stop us from doing so.
      In other words: the Turians kicked a hornets nest.

    • @TheLiamis
      @TheLiamis หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Vaprous by far more advance I was thinking more on par with the reapers power. 1 reaper ship would have won that fight without breaking a sweat. 6 would have teabagged the councils entire military forces.

    Now I understand Liara's motivation to become a shadow broker, because information is the key to success. Unknown is the humanity's biggest fear

    • @MTJDisorder
      @MTJDisorder  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent comment!
      This video is an account of the accepted truth of how the events unfolded. Which at face value yes clearly shows how a lack of understanding and proper lines of communication resulted in a near catastrophe.
      However, when reading some of the spin off comics and books and even some of the in game data-pads there is more than just a suggestion that there was some shady business going on that might have caused this to get out of hand.
      It’s funny that though archeology was her profession she didn’t really care about it. Finding out what happened to the Protheans was her true obsession. She almost had a sixth sense for knowing when something didn’t quite add up.
      As soon as Liara and the crew of the Normandy unraveled an ancient galactic conspiracy that took over her motivations.

    You ever wonder *why* humanity is allowed on the council despite barely joining? Its because our military capacity before First Contact was so high that we easily rivaled the rest of council space combined. Like our first instinct was to agree to Dreadnought limits and then turn around and make a shit ton of carriers to circumvent said limit.
