I make this tea, adding some dandelion leaves & root, and nettle leaves. I add the goodies to boiling water, turn the heat down and simmer it for a few hours and cool. It makes a nice ice tea. I make about 5 lites and put it in the fridge. Full of nutrients
I bought a bag of chaga chunks. What I do with them is grind them up in a blender into a course ground up state. Then I put that into a spice grinder and grind it into a fine talcum-like powder. Then I boil a portion in water to make a thick tea with the chaga suspended in it so it is more like cocoa where cocoa powder is added to water producing a thicker consistency than tea. Then I add milk and some honey. The result is like a chaga version of hot cocoa -- but with chaga powder instead of cocoa powder. I also put this in the fridge and drink it cold. It is really delicious and I like the idea that I am consuming the chaga in its entirety. Could perhaps try something like this with the polypore.
I'm teaching my 3-year-old about nature and forging and we are enjoying everything we find a great deal. I know about chaga and how to use it and I know about Staghorn sumac and using pine needles, and they all make fantastic tea. But just last night I discovered Polyporus mushroom and I was a little hesitant because I would love to begin to forge mushrooms but I'm terrified of getting poisoned....🤢 so I went out and within less than 5 minutes on our walk because I live in the Northern woods of vermont, I found a birch tree that has recently begun to fall over and it had about 10 or 12 mushrooms on it and I was able to harvest one a little bit bigger than the size of my han...couldnt reach the rest, and I was just going to use them as future fire starters but then I read up that you can make tea and it will help with inflammation which I have severe arthritis so I just made some a few minutes ago and yes the taste is very bitter and I'm taking it really slow in case somehow and some way I have messed up big time at least I won't poison myself too bad, LOL but so far so good I have drinking about half a cup and it's not too bad. I mean it is very bitter and it definitely has a strange taste but I put a little Stevia in it and it helped a great deal. But I just wanted to thank you for the video and I really appreciate the time you took to create this video and help people like me Get Back To Nature....and heal naturally God bless!❤️🙏
Thank you for your share here. I made my first tea, and it turned out to be very bitter...maybe I should water it down. I was collecting chanterelles in the woods when ran into a medicine woman, she was collecting popypores. This was my good luck to open up to such medicinal mushrooms and expand my knowledge here. We live in Luxembourg where all forests are open to enter, and they are full of mushrooms of all kinds.
When I make mine, I cut the pieces smaller, so more nutrients are released. And then simmer in a small pot with a lid, for an hour or so. Add some local raw honey, because it can be a little bitter.
Yes that's the way to do it - it needs to be simmered for an hour at least to extract the medicinal benefits. Either that or make a tincture extraction. This video is a little misleading if you're after getting the amazing anti cancer and immune boosting effects of birch polypore because he only steeps it in hot water rather than simmering it for some time.
@@cocis911 Thank you for reflecting my thoughts here. Indeed, it needs simmering for about an hour for the optimal release of its medicinal values. I also suggest to reuse the mushroom slices in repeat, as long as the color of the tea turns out light pastel brown.
When I make jars of this tea I find that at bottle of jars I have mushroom sediment ...is this ok? I passed it through a sift already and there's still some sediment left..will it still be ok to drink ?

Made polypore tea this morning with a tsp honey. Mushroom flavor comes thru. I bring it to near boil. Delish.
Nature is amazing! Thank you for this great video.
I make tea with these in michgan alot. I use rosemary herb with it to balance out the bitterness
That's a great idea adding the rosemary herb! I'll definitely have to give that a try!👍

So? What does it taste of, apart from maple syrup?
It has a unique flavor. I thought it was pleasant. Kind of a nutty/mushroom flavor is the best I can describe it.

I passed it through a sift already and there's still some sediment left..will it still be ok to drink ?
I also had some sediment with mine and drank it. I'm still alive and haven't gotten sick. I don't see a problem with it since it is edible.👍
It is an "edible", although very bitter. The sediment not only should be fine, but, is probably very healthy.
