I bought a diamond ring that was average on all the stats. Average color average clarity but it had a very good cut and it’s EVERYTHING! I blind people with the light it reflects! ❤ I never knew it was possible.

Cut is the key to a great looking diamond, If it's well cut then it's likely to look bigger and have more sparkle.

How's someone convincing a jewelry store to take a 10k diamond in sunlight???

Bret Melton I was thinking the same thing 😂

It;'s not as uncommon as you might think. There are security measures in place, and it's on a case by case basis. For example, a store may choose to hold your identification card and have an armed security guard escort you.

It just depends. If you’re buying from a mall jeweler, most likely the workers aren’t going to let you take it out to sunlight. With that being said, those same mall jewelers are probably not going to carry those high quality stones that you would need to even take out to the sunlight to see that they are bad diamonds masked by great lighting. I have purchased really amazing GIA certified, super ideal diamonds from mom and pop jewelry stores and they have no hesitation walking you outside to see it in any light you need.

You gotta take it out in the sunlight! It’s everything!

If I purchase a diamond online that is GIA certified to have ideal cut, excellent polish, excellent symmetry, and the table & depth percentages are in the ideal ranges, is it safe to assume that the diamond will most likely have great sparkle & brilliance? Can a diamond lack significant sparkle & brilliance though it has all of these ideal characteristics? If yes, why/how?

Hi there! GIA graded diamonds with excellent grades and ideal proportions are often VERY sparkly. That said, it is POSSIBLE for a diamond with ideal grading to fall a bit short of maximum sparkle potential. I've seen two 'Triple Ex' diamonds side by side and one faced up larger and brighter than the other even though both were technically sparkly. One was just "more ideal" despite equal grade reports.
Here are a few other scenarios to consider:
      • Medium or Strong fluorescence in Colorless diamonds - This *may* make a diamond appear hazy in some lighting. It's important to evaluate this with eyes to know. Fluorescence is noted on the report, but haziness is not. It can actually sometime HELP in colors G-M to make them appear whiter.
      • Poor optical symmetry - Precise optical symmetry is hard to discern from grade report data. If present, it could suppress brilliance. But GIA symmetry grade only refers to physical symmetry.
      • Cloudiness - Internal clouds or inclusions in the right locations could inhibit light transmission and dull brilliance. But GIA does not assign higher clarity grades if this occurs.
Reviewing the actual diamond in person (or having someone like me evaluate diamonds on your behalf in person to curate an optimum selection) is the best way to verify its brilliance.
      Hope this helps! :)
      Best,
      Vanessa

Hi! The information was very interesting! I didn't know that diamonds get darker in direct sunlight but now watching the video I can't believe I never really noticed it before! I noticed that it looked kinda different but that's all. I'm wondering.. does that happen with diamonds simulants too? Like Cubic Zirconia, Glass, etc.

Glad it was helpful! I don't know about simulants since we don't work with those.

    • @VanessaNicoleJewels
      @VanessaNicoleJewels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

That depends on how well it's cut. Often they do, but just give it a visual inspection to be sure :)

Now when I walk out of this jewlery store with their ring I better not get tackled by security😂

Haha, you would obviously need their permission, and they will usually have someone escort you to the front. No big deal, doesn't hurt to ask if it's an option!
