I agree with Dan. Transfer portal should start after bowl season if its possible.
But like Acho brought up, the portals schedule is solidified to when it is, they can't move that. So the only way to adjust the overlap is to move the bowls themselves.
ESPN discussing this is hilarious. ESPN & the CFP Committee is the reason it happened. They've made it about money instead of the games. So when you devalue no playoff games, opt outs and transfers happen
Good point. If there was NCAA leadership, the Pac 12would still be alive. ESPN and Fox causing the fire then complaining about lack of fire dept is hypocritical
Irrelevant, FSU got crushed by Georgia 2nd and 3rd string players, especially after seeing the other playoff games, the committee got it right.

Transfer portal fucked up the entire bowl games. Do that after bowl games not before it. Idk if this happened in the early 2000s but back then we see legit superstars showed up and be great, now we see more transfers than seeing superstar caliber plays.
Dude, you guys gotta stop blaming it on the transfer portal. FSU on its best day won't beat a tough Georgia squad. What messed up the national championship last year when Georgia DID THE SAME THING????????
Transfer Portal isn't the problem. If coaches are allowed to leave on a whim for more money why can't players decide to leave when they feel it's for a better situation. Let's not pretend all the problems came from transfer portals.
What do you expect though, if you’re for sure leaving for another team, why would you risk getting injured? Look at what the broncos did with Russ, they benched him because they’re gonna trade him and don’t want him getting hurt
“bowl games” are a waste of time. Playing for a nothing trophy vs a nobody team with nothing to gain. Real fun
@@deplorablelibertarianAre we acting like Georgia didn't lose to Alabama?? A team with no offensive line. A team with a wingback playing quarterback. A young team. A team whose center can't snap the ball. That's who Georgia lost to on at a neutral site. Florida State at full strength vs Georgia would've been a good competitive game
I think FSU DID make a statement with that showing: CFP didn't take them seriously as a team, so the team didn't take their bowl game seriously
They were also missing what 8-9 starters on defense and both there starting rb and both Wrs
Those FSU starters boycotted.

I lean towards Dan's take. Also, I believe they should put a cap on how many times a player can hit the transfer portal(other than situations like illness, coaching changes, military). Some people have transferred the same amount of years that they have been in college.
This is a bad take. After the first transfer you have to sit out a year or be graduate, like it has always been. The one transfer is a good idea because prior it was a case by case and up to someone’s opinion
What people seem to overlook about the blowout is how incredibly hilarious it was.
Acho is right. The Spring semester starts next week, and the transfer portal window ends tomorrow and opens again in April.
If students can't transfer mid-season, they should be able to enter the portal until January 20th, right after the CF season is over.
BOTH of these teams wanted to make a statement and BOTH teams did exactly that.
Well said
Wym both teams? Georgia wanted to make a statement. FSU really didn’t care. They wanted to let young freshman get their feet wet
Yep. FSU made a statement that they didn’t care and just crapped the bed, Georgia statement was to show they deserved to be in the top 4
@@BlackMarvel25 Georgia lost Alabama no matter what happened this game Georgia did not deserve to be in.
You sound scared homie
To those saying NIL should be taken away or modified, it isn’t going anywhere. The Supreme Court ruled it was player’s right to earn money off their own image. The NCAA has no say or authority over it.
Additionally, the transfer portal will unlikely be taken away now that it’s here. The NCAA will face stiff resistance and lawsuits if they try. It will just have to be up to individual school programs to create an environment that makes players want to stay.
Actually the supreme Court hasn't ruled on it yet. They just made a statement of how they would likely rule after ruling on a case about the NCAA limiting scholarship benefits.
The Supreme Court is fickle depending on who is in there. They have changed their opinions on many subjects before. It's amazing how NIL must be allowed for college players but for typical workers companies can force you to sign a non-compete clause to limit your employment opportunities. Those clauses can even stay in effect after they fire you.
@@nathannewman6555 Then complain to your local government.
20 players didn’t play for FSU. No one has that many not playing bruh. Even Kirby Smart stated the same.
Literally the most meaningless game this year I'm glad our players opted out Go Noles 💪🏾
Loser mentality for sure
Loser mentality for sure
Loser mentality for sure
Exactly!
every game matters
ESPN made it that way with saying bowl games are meaningless years ago and those on the CFP committee will lay on their decision and say “well this is the last year so it won’t be a problem going further…” That only works for so long
They are meaningless they are there to make NCAA more money how do these games benefit the player
It's not just that ESPN owns the broadcasting rights to nearly every bowl game, it's the fact that they make only a handful matter. For example, College Gameday always does an episode at the Rose Bowl regardless or whether or not it is a Semifinal that season or even if the Sugar Bowl was the bigger and more popular Semifinal match up the nation than the Rose Bowl. This is important because for people like me who was born and raised in SEC Country, we don't care about the Rose Bowl when it's not a semifinal nor if it wasn't the BCS National Championship Game during the first half of BCS era. In fact, in the post WWII era, the SEC has been very irrelevant in the Rose Bowl. Because Gameday continues to do annual shows at the Rose Bowl, they are telling us what Bowl games matter. Personally, get rid of the meaningless lower tier Bowl games like Boca Raton, Myrtle Beach, & Pop Tart bowls, increase Bowl eligibility from 6-6 to 8-4, and get rid of conference tie ins and go by the oldest played bowl games, bowl season outside of the NY6 just might matter again.
Great discussion here. Both guys are absolutely spitting facts

@thephenomkid24 who said we WANTED to lose? I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we would've loved to have won, we just also didn't *care* whatsoever if we lost.
I am a FSU fan. I was pissed watching the game and at FSU's attitude towards not showing up for the game when they could have proved something by beating Georgia who was regarded as the #1 team all season long. I would have been even more pissed if I paid all the money to show up to the game in person as a fan. Much respect to Georgia for how they handled it attitude wise. Georgia proved they deserved better. FSU proved they deserved what they got.
Your not an FSU fan. You view this as surface as everybody else. The reality is those guys that opted out came back to play in last year bowl game and decided to return for another year, ALL FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP RUN. That was the goal and when they were told their games didn't matter they were that hurt. Thats how much they put into this season. So its understandable to make that quick decision from their perspective. Would have been great to have them, but I don't blame them for not putting their future on the line any further after they proved to everyone already they should have been in the top 4. There was nothing more to prove. The adults (in the committee) made a business decision vs. honoring the integrity of the game. So you can't blame these young men for doing the same. To say they should have proved what they already proved is you feeling entitled as a viewer/fan of being entertained. And not looking at the reality of the situation.
2) Georgia was coming off of a loss and they didn't want to end on a loss so their players decided to come back and finish strong with a W (Kirby said this in their pre Orange bowl press conference). Props to them. But these are two different circumstances and people are downplaying the hurt after OPTING IN FOR AN ENTIRE SEASON for a Championship. Georgia couldn't be that mad. They earned a loss in the SEC championship, easier for them to opt in the game.
@@jamaal8786 Agree to disagree. You already lost thinking you are the judge on who is and who is not a fan. Just because I won't blindly agree with certain actions I'm not a fan? Ok. Sounds like FSU might have been the entitled one. Crying they didn't get what they thought they deserved and then proved they didn't deserve it. I just feel bad for Georgia. I'm sure they were hoping to have and actual competition. Sure i'm not disagreeing that the committee made the absolute wrong decision but in life we don't control others, we only control how we react. And they looked like a bunch of children with how they handled it, not a top 4 caliber team.
I’m an FSU student and I feel the same way.
They are not getting any money they could get hurt playing in game. And the NCAA screwed them for playing in the national championship. Why would they play for a nothing game
@@stephenlukcasy9047 proof that the “bowl game” has completely lost its luster. Winning the ____ Bowl means nothing anymore. Players just care about the Championship now. A shifting landscape I suppose
Expecting FSU to show up and play was nothing short of expecting them to celebrate being robbed. Why give them their ratings/show, if they're going to snub you like that?
And UGA didn't feel robbed? We wanted to prove we were THAT team and did. Bulldogs pulled the curtain down on the Committee.
No you didn’t cause you lost to Bama. That was a play in game and you lost!
Its hilarious georgia didn't get to avenge the bama loss cause fsu didn't play 😂 63-3 and won nothing but a bowl of oranges....thats tough id be mad too 😂
Exactly why fsu will continue to be a mid program
Fsu is one of the greatest football schools, both now and historically. At worst, fsu is 10th best football school ever. About 100 other d1 schools would trade their history for fsu
Based on players opting out. They should have put FSU vs Liberty and Georgia vs Oregon. It would have been a better matchup in both games. The Committee did that to justify for their reasoning behind the selection by making a team look bad in a meaningless game nobody in Garnett and Gold cared for. Fsu plays Georgia and Alabama in the upcoming years. They dont duck competition. We open to play SEC teams (Ole Miss 2016, Alabama 2017, LSU 2022 and 2023) Georgia and Bama on our future schedules. We will be back.

100% agree!! FSU is more at par with Liberty. The game against Oregon was such a blowout!
FSU Snubbed both teams that got in lost
@humblehugh23..your team will never be back..they're quitters..Georgia got snubbed too but showed up and showed out. Disgustingly pitiful exhibition of quitters.
They had to give Oregon the win. Liberty had no business ever playing in a bowl that big. I don't care if they are undefeated in that cupcake conference. No business there. Liberty 😂 😂 man
The only academic effect with Dan's proposed changes with the transfer portal would be on quarter schools, since they go back to school right after New Year's. However, there are ways around that, too.
Transfer portal is like having free agency in the latter part of an active season. What could go wrong?
Fairly obvious
The problem is, this is COLLEGE sports, so the academic schedule takes priority over the athletic one. The only way to prevent the portal from overlapping with bowl season is to move the bowl season since the portal HAS TO be when it is.
Great points all-around on this topic.
I like Dan's idea about changing the schedule and portal but was also glad to hear Sam mention the issue with the coaches instability as well.
To be honest, I think if they stopped coaches from hopping around first, it will make the other issues with NIL & transfer portal much easier to solve.
Not anymore. It's Pandora's Box. Too late. The coaches made it about money and opportunities for decades. Now the players want the same and why shouldn't they. Let's stop the bull$hit. Have a NFL model and commissioner. Then we will get some sense of normalcy. Until then it is what it is.
These portal players would have start at another school for the spring semester..can't do it earlier.
He’s so right about the transfer portal and the schedule, like what is college football doing having the title game that late into January. Start the season earlier in august.
Also loved Sam bringing up the age old topic that most sports analysts and even fans have forgotten. These college players are STUDENTS as well. Student first, athlete second. They love to judge these players and their performances under the same microscope as professional athletes but always disregard the fact they are attending school that involves classes, schedules, deadlines, projects, etc.
A significant overhaul of the college football system is essential for this sport to be meaningful for the future. It's time to look at anti-trust and monopoly issues with: the Transfer Portal, outrageous and inequitable NIL agreements, the creation of a Mega Conference. Additionally the hideous barrage of ESPN's rapid repetition self promoting "Live Sports" commercials, have made this years college bowl season an abysmal joke.
College Football has definitely changed in a lot of different aspects. I do see and respect everyone's opinion because I see it from both sides. I feel and do agree that NIL and Transfer Portal are destroying and ruining College Football. I don't feel student athletes should get any money at all but call me old fashioned old school cuz I am honestly I don't agree with it I grew up in 70s 80s 90s etc where College football players played for the love of game their school worked hard in school and on field to earn their dreams of making to next level. Transfer Portal needs to be adjusted and modified in alot of ways I can understand it helps teams but also hurts teams. Looking at it from a student athlete point of view I can understand why and respect their decision if they choose to enter Portal. CFP is also ruining College football just like BCS and AP/COACHES POLL IN the past moral of story each and every year College Football = CONTROVERSY. Like Coach Kirby Smart stated something needs to be done now and changed in college football it's definitely out of hand with controversy bias favoritism but most of all MONEY MONEY MONEY MAKES ME SICK CUZ I've been a College Football diehard fan for 43 years. NIL, Transfer Portal, CFP and MONEY is ruining and destroying College Football and im about done watching it follow recruiting like have for years etc. It's down right PATHETIC. FACTS!!! 💯
@ncgolfpro23 There’s a reason why the blue bloods formed during those time periods, because those schools found ways to pay their players when other schools couldn’t, NIL has actually evened the playing field a little bit by giving non blue bloods a chance to LEGALLY pay their players.
None of that is an issue. It's the CFP committee, ESPN,ETC.
@richardtravick5794 I totally agree I forgot to mention the Networks ESPN analysts etc CFP committee etc
@@ncgolfpro23If coaches get paid, schools make mad money off of these players that love the game, therefore players should be compensated for their commitment to the school and the their hard work on the field. Why is it that you can be semi-pro or pro as a teen in soccer in Euro, tennis worldwide, and baseball in the minor leagues.... so those athletes are the exact same age as college football players. Just goes to show, the play off committee makes decision based off the mighty dollar.
Schools aren't changing their enrollment dates for football. School starts around Late August / Early september and then Jan 15th. The only way Dans suggestion about the portal being closed works, is if the entire football schedule moves up. That would mean players are playing games without being in any classes. He doesn't think his takes through to their logical conclusion.
That was the first thing he suggested, move the season up and be finished by the end of December.
It actually makes a lot of sense, stupid
Plenty of sports play while not being in classes so that works just fine

College football was a farm system for the NFL. Only difference is the player chooses when they get called up to the big leagues. It’s also a farm system to go to another farm system. NIL: You wanted players to get paid, well here you are. Pandora’s box has been opened and it will never get closed. How can you go back to “normal”? You did it to help player flexibility. Now you have an ever expanding brush fire in an open field. That brush fire is the transfer portal. You’re beyond the point of return.
Compete for what??? An Orange Bowl Trophy? Georgia knew FSU was gonna opt out and ran it up on third stringers. Then on the couch watch the playoff just as we are. But hey we just got our Next QB to “Compete”
So FSU players made a mockery of a game that was a mockery to begin with. ESPN screwed FSU out of a potential pay day and gets upset when FSU returns the favor.
Yep. Pretty much. It’s a joke
Compete for what? See everyone keeps saying they had to play but play for what exactly? They got screwed out of playing for the championship and they said screw it. Pretty sure without a transfer portal, those same players wouldn't have played and rightfully so.
Exactly
Yes, transfer portal wasn’t the reason. It was more of a statement like you said. If I was in position of a coach and my team got robbed the same way as fsu, I would do the same thing, I wouldn’t sign my team up for a bloodbath show with a top team in the SEC with absolutely no reward for it, and therefore risk my current and perhaps future starters getting injured in the most meaningless bowl game as I have said, just for some beer addicts to delight on it. Indeed, it is crazy how some fans thought it would be an “amazing” matchup. In terms of the committee and espn a-likes, all they want is money, they knew it wasn’t going to be a great matchup considering the fsu situation but they’re mad they didn’t get the desired amount of profit off of it
I love that the FSU players sat out. Why participate in an absolute screw job. It's a bad look for ESPN and the playoff committee. I love it.

The CFP Committee (and the NCAA by extension) didn’t help incentivize "student-athlete loyalty" to any specific program by telling FSU their actual performance throughout the regular season was meaningless compared to how "sexy" their roster looks for future bowl matchups. If I were a FSU starter I would've passed on this bowl game too; especially if I were declaring for the draft.
As for UGA, yeah it sucked to have that one loss at the most inopportune of times kick you out of the bracket. Hopefully the expansion of the bracket will help accommodate all "deserving" 1-loss teams.
As for the transfer portal, it shouldn't be allowed mid-season. That should apply to players AND coaches.

Only FSU seems to think bowl games are meaningless. By not showing up they can whine about being left out without proving they belonged in the playoffs. FSU and Oregon (they only lost to WA by a combined 6 points in two games) should have been in the CFP, but the committee has no shame or reservation about their bias. Terrible!
Dan is exactly right about the transfer portal. Ridiculous that it opens before bowl season starts. Why even have any bowls other than the playoff if you’re going to devalue them so much to allow all these transfers to decimate rosters? Also coaching changes should be frozen until after bowl season
And coaches?
Bring back transfers have to sit out a year. I get why that went away during Covid, but that needs to come back. Only transfers that do not have to sit out a year is if your current team coach has left
I think this has to be the restriction. Maybe with exceptions and an ability to have a waiver (grad students, Tez Walker situation, etc.), but the current transfer portal system is not helping the game. Something has to change, and it is either going to have to be timeline-wise since the portal cannot move due to academic restrictions or we "punish" players for jumping ship.

Will never happen. The opt out is a zero sum game. For every team that loses a player is a team that gains that player. So as loud as the losing programs will be that it must be stopped, you’ll have equally loud teams saying it must be allowed to continue
Dan makes a great point!
Fsu showed why they shouldnt have been picked. Plain and simple, and after all that whiney complaining. They showed that the correct choice was made
Blah blah
People who were defending FSU as one of the best 4 teams were not watching College FB all year. Even with Jordan Travis, they were outstaged in every facet of the game. Ridiculous..
Youre not bright are you??
Easy way to resolve this; move the date of the transfer portal, and work it into every NIL deal that any healthy player that opts out of their bowl game has to repay that money.
I agree with both ideas in theory, but realistically, players will just opt out with the intention of entering the transfer portal, and players will just go to the schools that won't require payback of NIL from opting out.
@@Rookie_Mode2023 not if it's instituted nationally
If that's what messed this game up, what messed up the national championship when Georgia did the same thing? It was just an uneven fight, that's all. The best FSU team wasn't going to beat Georgia.
@@deplorablelibertarian What are you even talking about?
there's always ways around it. they'll just say "oh i wasn't healthy, sorry"
Try as you may ESPN to spin this against FSU who is working on getting out of the ESPN contract with the ACC we all know ESPN is worried. These opts outs will potentially effect ESPN marketing dollars as they have the rights to these bowl games. If I am a 12 seed team in next years playoff and i have a good shot at being drafted you can bet I am not playing in a playoff. Why would I risk millions for a game that means nothing.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Jawja made a LOT of lemonade.
No they didn't but fsu sure did
Actually we made orangeade. 😂
FSU’s future pros opted out, UGA’s didn’t. It’s a culture thing.

With jordan travis and their whole team playing and healthy, georgia still wins 49-17 or worse
Georgia would likely win, but I'd say by perhaps 21 points.
@@HTHAMMACK1 64-7 Georgia wins even if all of the Florida state team was there

Are you that stupid!? Fsu wins easy
PREACH.
They wanted to break the SEC hold on the chip, so force the best team out, they embarrassed the process last year and this year Georgia is head and shoulders above other college teams, Ga will win the new format next year
College sports should be about getting an education. working towards a degree and representing your school as a student athlete. One and done, transfer portals, and early signings are nothing but stepping stones to professional sports.
I don't even want the playoff system for college football either. The old bowl system worked fine. Everyone is gonna complain no matter what the format is.
FSU players left early to mostly protest not being in the CFP playoffs, to have 20 starters sit it out is what it was. Nothing wrong with NIL, just needs to be organized better for the future with the transfer portal as well. I think more control and organization will take place in the coming future. By the way I think the UW vs Tex game has the potential to be a bowl classic
Btw....and get rid of the committee deciding which team gets in as it was a popularity contest
Did Georgias third string hang 28 on them???
@@pilarcabellojr2706 all of Georgia's backups hung 21 on them and that was mostly against freshman who had never played a college game before who also just got curbstomped for 2 and a half quarters.
UGA could have scored 100 if they wanted to.
The entire current system with the portal is a mess. Portal should not open until right before the spring. Also, the amount of players who opt out due to the bowl game not being "big enough" is abysmal.
Great game Georgia….beat FSU’s 4th string players. ESPN destroyed FSU good players this year
If I said that, "I think the Fl State players knew this and Boycotted the bowl game due to them getting snubbed." Would that be crazy?
That would be pathetic. Winning programs don't act like passive aggressive soccer moms.
That would make FSU a weak program. UGA had more of an argument to be in the top 4 yet they came to play regardless. FSU had to prove they deserved to be there and tucked their tails instead
I can see that for sure, and I agree that the teams that are in it this year deserve it. Kinda sucks for ACC. Shows how weak they were this season @@Dixon_Cider407

Money ruined college sports. It’s not going back to what it use to be.
ESPN wouldn’t even air the trophy presentation for this game. That’s how bad it was.
Why would a team play hard after being excluded from what they rightly earned.
CFB needs to recognize that it has to evolve into the prep league for the NFL which it really always has been anyways. It’s going through growing pains with the NIL and transfer portal and players opting out of bowl games but that’s life. Top 25 college football team players have been taken advantage for far too long. They need to get PAID. The vast majority never make the NFL and as CFB players for top 25 programs they make millions of dollars for their universities and they don’t get squat in return except for a “free education” which is peanuts in cost to the university. Meanwhile, the head coaches make $millions and the university rakes in big money. Let’s be real people.
"CFB needs to recognize that it has to evolve into the prep league for the NFL which it really always has been anyways" Literally nobody in the NFL would agree with this statement.
@@MattBuild4 Ok, so if literally no one in the NFL would agree with that then what other league or source would the NFL say they get their players from?
@@SurfingWithTheMartian How exactly do you think the threat your making would work exactly?
Cuz your basically saying that college football should withhold players from going to the NFL (which they have literally zero control over), until the NFL accepts to have the NFL draft in the middle of Week 14.
@@MattBuild4I never made a threat. I’m just making observations based on new developments regarding NIL, transfer portal, opting out of bowl games, creation of the super conference etc.
The transfer portal and NIL should be completely player controlled which is what we have today. I know it isn't perfect, but the second you add a greedy middleman to the mix to "make rules," you all will be yearning for these days again.
Lol
@superman26755 Player controlled????? Are you freaking kidding me??
18-20 year old kids in charge of how much money they should be making to play college football AND also be able to decide when they should be able to transfer when things don't go their way?????
So Arch Manning, a 3rd string QB mind you, deserved the $2.8 million he made going 2/5 for 30 yards ALL YEAR??? You are an idiot!

Coach was still mad throwing them oranges….😂
Simple if you opt out or transfer before the official end of the season your scholarship should be revoked (not for injured players) and player should have to pick up the bill and consider it an early termination fee or leave or transfer after the final bowl game
then the best players will just be listed as "injured"
Not So Simple -
The scholarship cannot encompass potential post-season play, because that would be unfair to players on teams that go to post-season, who would be penalized for not playing that extra game, where players on teams that don't play post-season, logically, therefore cannot be exposed to penalty for not playing in a game that doesn't happen. Ostensibly, you would be penalizing players for being good enough to position the team to be bowl-eligible. It absolutely could backfire differently, also - players would become LESS incentivized about team performance, so long as their individual stats position them favorably for an upcoming draft. They may begin making "business decisions" where not putting out a supreme effort, if that effort would mean the team becomes bowl eligible, where then SOMEONE LIKE YOU would then proceed to strip them of their scholarship.
It's always what the players owe the school - not what the players could reasonably deserve. I don't understand how Americans, purportedly who favor the working class...always see fit to put the onus to make sacrifices on the working class, not the "executives" who run the industry.
Not So Simple, Dude.
Scholarships have to be renewed every single year so technically speaking this won’t solve nothing because another school can just give em a new scholarship after they transfer
@@ThomasFromTNHere’s a simple answer: these dudes are getting paid millions to play a ball game. They can sack up and play an additional game and not cry about it.
@Bobbleheads56 Delete this comment! College isn't the NFL, and even most NFL players aren't getting paid millions!
P.S.- Get a new talking point because yours sucks!
P.S.S.- The scholarship argument is also not valid.
Liberty vs Oregon would have been very different if the committee hadn't snubbed Liberty and their undefeated season. The Liberty players just felt disrespected and lost all motivation.
which bowl would you have Liberty play in then? They got a decent team to play, where is the snub? Oregon lost to Washington twice, thats pretty much it, and Washington may be the best team in the country.
Liberty didn't play any power five teams😂 and both Georgia and Michigan had basically the same strength of schedule as FSU.
Liberty would of got beat by anyone in there quickly! Liberty played Oregon and got stomped. Theyre not as good as any power 5 school. Theyre a JV team
FSU before the announcement: its about the games won, not the players available, let us in.
FSU after getting embarassed: huge blowout doesnt count because we didnt have our players.
13-0 ACC champion is more than qualified for the CFP. QB is not the 'whole' team as they proved by going 3-0 without Travis. The NCAA, not ESPN should have been in charge of the selection process.
The second they showed FSU that play on the field doesn't matter that team opted out. You can't ask a team to go out and prove themselves after they already did. That's nonsense. I'm huuuuuuge FSU fan and I have no problem with those kids decision.
They made the collage football a joke. You screwed a team out of their spot, then wanted them to put a good show for you. We all got ripped off.
The only takeaway: UGA got screwed.
You do agree Alabama should be in right ? Since they are sec champions. And Georgia and Alabama have the same record

The two things wrong with bowl games is that there's too many of them for businesses to get on tv to sponsor themselves rather than promote football and that only a handful of bowls that are not NY6 bowls matter. In fact, sometimes the NY6 bowls that were not semifinals didn't matter. A lot of the issues with less interest in bowl games falls on the media, specifically ESPN due to having broadcast rights of nearly every bowl game. For instance, every season, College Gameday always does a show from the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day even if it is not a semifinal. They don't do the same thing for the other NY6 bowls when they're on New Year's Day. I understand that the Rose Bowl is the oldest played bowl game. However, for some people of didn't regions, myself included growing up in Tennessee, we don't care about the Rose Bowl in non Semifinal years nor did we care about it if it was not the National Championship Game during the first half of the BCS era when the BCS bowl game WAS the National Championship Game (2001 & 2005 seasons). Historically, we in the South and SEC country have not cared about the Rose Bowl in the post-WWII era. So how should we fix it? The three things that must be done to at least have a shot at bringing back some level of interest back into bowl games is get rid of meaningless bowls like Boca Raton, Myrtle Beach, and Frisco Bowl, just to name a few. Next, raise the bowl eligibility from 6 wins to (bare minimum) 8 wins, no one should be rewarded for finishing at .500. Thirdly, get rid of conference tie-ins for none NY6/CFP bowls (now that the four team playoff era is over) and have selection be based off of the oldest played and have each bowl game pick whoever is left from the bowl eligibility pool as you go down the line for each bowl. Do that and, if all else fails, at least you attempted to fix this issue. Although, and this applies to college football as a whole, get a governing over all of college football like Roger Goodell in the NFL or Adam Silver in the NBA.
and TCU last year? My take on this is…….Ga is a really good team
The bigger the revenue grows the more it becomes a tv show and less of a sport. College football is dying in many ways
CFP committee did this to themselves. Not Florida St. to leave out undefeated 13-0 Florida St for two 1 loss teams is ridiculous and not have a shot the title, just gave the Seminoles the way out by using opt out transfers portals to this advantage. Florida St goal was to play in the CFP not the Orange Bowl
