I'm glad this is up with the raw audio. News channels are reporting panic and screams from the crowd when this happened, yet in this video there is clearly no screaming crowd, no panic at all. In fact what I notice is people laughing and stopping to record videos
My son and I were there the VIP section behind us. Great teens screaming like someone was stabbing them. There was no need for that, and of course the CMs were having a hard time getting ppl to evacuate.
And all the Devils around the world were screaming like the wicked witch that got splashed with water at the end of the wizard of Oz because they know the symbolic meaning of the death of "the dragon".

The cost of this incident is the water because electricity through water can damage the wires and might catch on fire. This is pretty odd how it happened twice.
It is crazy that the fire started right at Maleficent's death scene. As the fire started spreading, you can hear Maleficent screaming before they cut the sound.

Yeah sounds silly/stupid but it's a thing, hell I was told not to put out a fire using a fire extinguisher at work unless I have been trained to use it... and this is at a school, although my boss gave the wink and a nod and said "but if you happen to do it for a small fire like in a trash can or something no one is going to write you up"

1:45 Can we talk about the fact that the Disneyland cast members had a plan to evacuate to Adventureland and had people executing it calmly in under TWO minutes from the fire starting? They have serious organizational skills.
It’s Disney they have backup plans for backup plans. What’s impressive is how calm the cast members were for the whole thing!

"Due to unforeseen circumstances", crowd laughs due to the obvious. Statement of "this performance can not continue" crowd thinking are you kidding, the show is just starting. Laughs aside, it is unfortunate she was lost, and a toast to always awesome cast members. The scene was eerily reminiscent of the movie.
The pre-recorded voice was pretty hilarious, but then watching the whole model get lost to the fire was genuinely sad. Whole teams worked so hard on that amazing effect; it's a shame to see it destroyed like that. I hope it can be replaced soon.

There is something about the banjo music accompanying the ginormous tower of fire that I find almost comedic. That was one heck of a fire. So glad nobody was hurt. The staff worked well under pressure and thankfully the crowd didn't act like idiots. In MANY cases people panicking are 10 times more dangerous than whatever they are fleeing from.
Heard a little kid on the video worrying about Mickey Mouse and their mother reassuring her Mickey Mouse is fine.
On top of the "This performance can not continue" recording in a robot voice, as all hell breaks loose

Luckily during this show it’s on an island in the middle of the park so there’s literally no way for the fire to reach any guests luckily. It’s surrounded by a moat that has a full sized pirate ship and river boat sail around it.

Because that announcer doesn’t have feelings due to it being a robot instead of a real person.

RIP Murphy the Maleficent Dragon (2009-2023), we will miss you so much. The fire at Fantasmic was much worse than during Festival of Fantasy Parade.
It happened in 2018, but it wasn’t as bad as this… 😔

As a former Disneyland cast member, people don’t know the massive man power behind this and the other theme parks that help keep the magic alive! There is always so much going on behind and on stage to make sure visitors are happy and safe at the parks. Make sure you are nice to these people as they work really hard while dealing with a busy schedule and lack of recognition for all the time and effort put in. Just be nice to them as they are just humans trying to make a living and do their best they can! ❤❤❤

I was on Splash Mountain while it was burning and it was so goofy to see a massive pillar of fire and smoke and go around the corner and hear animatronic animals singing "Zippity do da"

My grandma read the news and told me, my legitimate reaction was: “again?” (Because of the other time maleficent’s dragon caught on fire in disneyworld during the parade). This looks extreme, the whole dragon caught on fire, and they’re even calling everyone out of the stage. Glad everyone is okay thankfully.
Right? They were lucky with the parade float that only the head was on fire. This animatronic fire was like a wildfire, it spread so quickly.

I was there for this. We were at a railing near French Market. Everyone was very calm and when they evacuated us from the viewing area we were able to ride Splash Mountain right away, but when we got off the ride the whole land was closed and we were directed to Galaxy's Edge. We passed dozens of cast members and managers that were apparently being summoned to ROA from around the park. I'm glad no one was hurt and nothing else caught fire. It was an amazing thing to behold.
Being honest, this should've been the ACTUAL finale for fantasmic... 😂

Mickey probably got sick of always putting Maleficent’s fires out every show, he decided to show some real magic.
Since nobody got hurt, you gotta admit the timing for this was perfect to make it look like a epic stunt.

Props to the cast members keeping calm and trying to get everyone out safely. Also give the cast member on stage a raise. He deserves it.
Might want to keep the Maleficent dragons away from fire and make a vent system for overheating.
I really hope this doesn't mean the end of Murphy because it is probably the most impressive animatronic Disney has ever built. The theme park experience is not the same without Fantasmic
Disney didn't build it, it was a Garner Holt Productions build (they make all of the modern Animatronics for Disney.) They're local to Disneyland, I'm sure they'll get started on a replacement soon.

yeah but considering how much it may cost and how Disney is messing things up, they may see this as buisness and say no and just close Fantasmic. Maybe even revamp it entirely since they’re gonna see it as a dated show.

Uh, this is a pretty impressive 'show' of its own. I know that the prop was destroyed and will have to be replaced, but that's an amazing sight to see. I mean, dragons make fire, and that was a pretty spectacular fire.
It's also the perfect timing because right at that moment Maleficent was defeated in the storyline.
@@Merryianna Ikr? you can hear Maleficent's screams of death as well as some of the other villains screaming right before they cut the show audio. Some people even thought it was part fo the show.

They did an appalling job. There was no point them existing, it was put out but the SFX crew using the water jets.

@@cynthiaortiz9999 The Festival of Fantasy parade dragon float at Disney World caught fire a few years ago, although only its head burned and they were able to put it out with a fire extinguisher. So Murphy's death was a bit uhmm... more spectacular 😅

@@NicholasPopovich16 It wasn't Murphy, but it was the Maleficent dragon float at the Disney World parade (not sure if that dragon has a nickname). It happened in May 2018. The dragon float returned in early 2019. You can find videos of it on TH-cam. Search for 'Disney World dragon float fire' and you'll find videos of the accident. It wasn't nearly as severe as Murphy burning down though.

Well, for all those dancing fountains of water and exploding pyrotechics were programmed to do in that half-hour show, the _one thing_ they were unprepared for was the possibility that they might need to turn the fountains towards the stage.
Even so, that looks like a fuel or electrical fire. Looks like water was doing nothing.
@@fourlittlebirds6166 Yep, I am not a firefighter but even I know that electrical fires or fuel fires require a special type of fire retardant and not just plain water.

it was exploding, still spitted fire that's wild, and that one brave guy trying to put it out. hats off to him gladly he didn't get hurt.
The worst part is that since it had to shoot some flames to begin with, it had gas inside and the tube holding it broke and you can see it all (thankfully) shoot strait down and not hit anyone.

Yeah, Disney cast was trying very hard to stop this from being filmed.
There are a lot of these videos on social media. Everyone's got a phone and wants to try to profit from recording it.
It's honestly sad to see this happen but I cannot look past the irony of the dragon having caught fire right on que as mickey defeated it.
I can imagine how Mickey must have felt when he looked away for few seconds to build up his magic and as soon as he turns back to shoot it, the dragons head is on fire.
My God the dragon actually sound like it was in pain when it caught on fire screaming "Oh NO! Oh NO!"
Keep in mind the line is actually pre-recorded because that's when the villains are scripted to be defeated but not with actual fire all over the dragon

Oh my gosh I was hearing about this all day but I didn’t get to look into it until now. I thought it was a small fire on the head that was easy to shut down I never expected this. That’s awful but I’m so glad to hear the Mickey cast member was safe that’s what I was most concerned about

I went to Disneyland and saw this show a couple weeks ago, glad to have been before the fire. I hope they get this amazing show up and running again as soon as possible.
Update: they won't. Fantasmic is returning next year but they confirmed the finale won't involve any giant animatronic dragon

Mickey finally had enough of dragons in his dreams lol. But in all seriousness, thankfully no one was hurt. As for the dragon, well it doesn’t seem like it will be coming back anytime soon. Wouldn’t be surprised if comes back for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary.

If I remember this correctly, a Fantasmic Dragon in a Disney Parade a few years ago also caught fire...gotta be careful when you have a Dragon as a pet.
