This is so great. I’ve loved watching TK’s videos for years but have never heard him speak. As humble as I imagined and a true craftsman in whatever he does. Big inspiration.

Years and years ago, TK Smith built my surfboards. TK's home at that time was behind the botanical gardens in Encinitas, CA. His house was like walking into the 50s -- it was cool and hip before that was a thing. TK built the surfboards entirely himself at that location -- he shaped, sanded, and glassed the boards. I know some of his longboards made it to Japan and became quite the collector's items. Anyway, I learned so much about music talking to him, however, I don't think the music he played "clicked" until he invited me over for Fourth of July for what would be, I think, the first performance by the Smith Ranch Boys. I remember quite a bit about that day. First, I was a total hippie, Grateful Dead loving kid, and so I was dressed in typical thrift store hippie clothes. That left me out of place around all of the beautiful folks dressed in what was wonderful western swing gear. Second, it was sunny, warm, and no wind. It was just a beautiful day. I sat on the grass and listened to TK and the band run through many phenomenal songs. Third, I talked to TK at the end of the set and told him I had to run because I imagined the surf was really good. That proved right -- because it was a holiday no one was surfing and it was arguably one of the best days I have every surfed. After that day, I bought all of the Big Sandy albums, and then followed all sorts of guitarists and players. To say that TK was a big influence on me, my music tastes, and everything else, would be an understatement. Watching him here though, I also remember how humble, smart, kind, and talented he is too -- and I hope just a scintilla of some of that rubbed off on me.

So cool and a relatively small scene. Having been a fan of Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds short lived band Rockpile who both knew had to produce records in the old way it got me into the American scene with Jimmy Vaughan

This is so great! I was very fortunate, along with my close friends, to have witnessed this greatness in person. Back in the late, 80’s/early 90’s, we had the best times going to all their shows.
TK really inspired me beyond his guitar playing, to follow my own dreams as a maker. Thank you Robert and TK for sharing your talents with us ❤

This was nice. I didn't know a lot about either of these guys but those first two Fly-Rite Trio CDs were great and they played a big part in my getting into country music. I taped the CDs from a friend and in filling out the C90 I used a bunch of songs from a Capitol Records comp. A couple months later the Fly-Rite Boys album came out and they covered one of the Jerry Reed songs I'd picked. That bit of serendipity and the more hillbilly sound both of Jumpin' From 6 to 6 and of the Capitol stuff intrigued me and led me to listen to a lot of older country records. I saw Big Sandy on that tour and was disappointed that TK was not there, didn't realize he'd been out for a couple years. Am I remembering wrong that I saw him on that Rosie Flores & Wanda Jackson tour the year after that?

Sandy and the Fly-rites came to Chicago multiple times to play at FitzGerald's Nightclub in Berwyn IL. Ashley Kingman is a real gentleman!
