    Thank you again a year later! Darn Brother! You are totally right, not only is the thing you fixed a defect, but mine has a spring and little plastic hook for the gears that turn the paper wheel--the first time I fixed it, the spring had just come off, but now it is broken off. I'll try to do the same fix you did with the other spring. Very elegant and creative fix! Nice! Thank you again.

    Same roller problem on brother GX- 6750 machine that was barely used by Grandma.
    Shame on you - brother manufacturing- for not fixing a poor design defect on your machines
    and still selling new machines with same defect thru authorized retailers.
    Thank you so much for excellent video to fix. You made my day and Grandma’s too! :)

    Never in my life did I think I'd be fixing a typewriter in this, the year 2019, but this was exactly the issue it had and this video was the perfect solution (and guide for how to take it apart). Thanks!

    Thanks again--I got my typewriter fixed, thanks to you! The gear thingie was out of its slot so the paper wasn't feeding right. If I hadn't known how to take off the cover, I couldn't have fixed it, so thank you!

    Now I’ve played with plenty of Smith Coronas and Royals, Remingtons and Underwoods, I get why this is a subpar typewriter. But it’s the one my dad got me first when I was little and well, I keep buying ribbon and daisy wheels for it. Too sentimental. After like 12 years of off and on again use, Idk if that plastic tab will ever break but if it ever does, I’m excited for an excuse to play with fire! 10/10

    This was a very helpful and enjoyable video! I've got a similar problem on the same machine; the other small plastic point of failure under load in that spring mechanism has sheered cleanly off. I will be saving this video for later in the event I have to make the repair you demonstrated!

    Well my problem was the same mechanism but was the little plastic rectangular piece that holds that bar in place. I was able to fix it in a similar fashion with a shortened finishing nail heated up and stuck in the place of the plastic tab. Probably wouldn't have thought of that without this video so thanks for sharing this.

    Hi PT, as far as the production run on these Brother GX-6750's, I've read online they started around 1990's, but would you know when they stopped manufacture of this model/when the next model started? I'm trying to date my machine, but it seems like Brother's serial number codes do not identify the decade they were made in, only a single digit for the year, but not the decade. Enjoyed the video, thanks!

    I work for a retirement community and I am assisting a resident with her "new" GX-6750. Her Issue is that the cartridge stays in the up position and when you type it drops down and attempts to strike but strikes nothing but air.

      Power typewriter off, make sure daisy wheel is pushed all the way forward using black arm,
      make sure ribbon is in proper, turn back on. Unit should move to left side jiggle & shake.
      This should bring ribbon down to typing position, daisy wheel should turn & home, typewriter should work.
      If not, take video of stuff while it's starting & not typing & send to me via web site

    Could I ask you for a spec on the power supply for this machine. Need to know the voltage and amperage that supplies the typewriter. Also any tips for me. My project is, putting a power supply in one that has it missing. Thanks.

    • @phoenixtypewriter2136
      @phoenixtypewriter2136  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know, don't have that info, pretty sure it uses multiple voltages.
      Plenty of these are junk, parts machines, that PS should still be good

    Hello Phoenix Typewriter! I have this model but after thinking this was my problem I realized the small motor on the left side that helps scroll the paper up and down has been bent and fallen out of place. Is there a way to fix this? It is a small plastic spool that apparently connects or syncs with the manual wheel to help the sheet of paper in either direction especially after you hit the return key. Any tips on fixing this?

  • @Edwinvillegas24
    @Edwinvillegas24 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Anybody know how to fix a problem with the return button not moving paper up to jump to the next line? Keeps typing on the same line.

    • @phoenixtypewriter2136
      @phoenixtypewriter2136  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I know . . . . . I know most everything about most every typewriter
      Gear on index motor is bad, bracket is broke-like this video, Feed roll tension broke, PCB is bad ? ,
      Further investigative analysis would be necessary to determine exactly what has failed

    • @Edwinvillegas24
      @Edwinvillegas24 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phoenix Typewriter release lever works. Hold paper in place. Return button work fine just doesn’t jump to the next line. I’m assuming motor issue.

    I have a Brother 90 and haven't used it in years but had a need for it today. However, the Caps light is blinking and, apparently, as a result, nothing is operable. Any advice? Thanks.

    • @phoenixtypewriter2136

      Did it POR, move to the left and reset ? Remove and re-install printwheel. Lid switch could be bad
      Hard to tell with out 1st hand analysis

    • @robinspina7813
      @robinspina7813 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phoenixtypewriter2136 Thanks for responding! It doesn't have a printwheel but a cassette. Before this, when I turned it on, the cassette would smoothly slide to the right and then return. Now, the cassette goes to the right an inch or so and that's it. As if the right margin is set that small. But it doesn't respond to any commands whatsoever. The CAPS light just blinks.

    • @phoenixtypewriter2136
      @phoenixtypewriter2136  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robinspina7813 It does have a printweel ( pinwheel) that has all the letters on it, also has a ribbon cartridge, 2 separate things
      But sounds like the carrier sensor is failing or not responding, these are old , 30 yr old contacts, that only had a 10 year estimated life span
      Contact points can be rejuvenated, but the part needs to come out for that to be done. I do that to every one of these if I resell them to avoid future problems.

  • @jrmcferren
    @jrmcferren 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have an older GX-6000, does it have this same defect? Also the best way to demonstrate the delay is to type an underscore and then another character (similar to the way underline works actually). Not only do you have the response delay, but you also have an additional delay of the wheel turning into position.
    Also that clear cover is horrible, In that, the older GX-6000 is a much better design.

    • @phoenixtypewriter2136
      @phoenixtypewriter2136  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you talking about index/linspace up on carriage return? Some early versions used a plastic gear that would split. It can be replaced with a metal gear version from a parts machine.

    Aaaah I got sparks in my eyes from that grinder :) Hindsight is 20/20, but why not just loop the spring over the screw threads instead of over the head, especially since its a permanent install? (I guess the spring could fail, requiring a reinstall).

      Sounds like either the arm latch is broken, or carrier frame is chipped., both are plastic
      You would need to determine to see if a modification would work, replace carrier would be final solution

      These typewriters reset when you turn them off/on
      Should set line spacing @ 1 when machine is turned on
      To change, Press & hold ALT & press 1, 2 or 3 (above 1,2,3 it says "line" ) it's also color coded.
