Another great video Chris. I’ve only had my X-T1 a short time and hope your guidance on settings will help me achieve better results! I’m going to London tomorrow to take some photographs so 🤞👍
I've never really considered the Interlock Spot AE/AF function, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the tip about the interlock Spot AE/AF. I’d been shooting and exposing without that setting engaged! Love those high contrast images!
pleasure - it should make a big difference to your images with that switched on. Cheers!
Ah the good old days of Fujifilm when they made photography simple with the metering modes on a collar.
Metering modes used to matter a lot on SLR and Rangefinder cameras. However with today's mirrorless EVF cameras it matters much less. It still matters somewhat if you are using the automatic exposure modes but I tend to shoot full manual and use the preview and the histogram to get the intended exposure. I leave my camera on the multi setting about 95% of the time. Occasionally on my X100V I will use only the OVF and turn off the histogram. Then I am forced to use the actual camera meter. When I do that I tend to like to use the center weighted setting but remember I am still shooting in full manual. I use some of the techniques outlined in Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. It is an old book but much of the techniques still apply. Thanks for sharing.
Super helpful Chris - thanks! I've never heard anyone explain the different metering modes so well.
Check out pal2tech, his video is on par with this one.
Thanks Chris for the heads up.
Thanks. Super useful.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi there you are a wonderful teacher & I have learnt lots from you, I am carrying a Fujifilm XT4 camera and after seeing your video on "Metering Modes of Fujifilm Cameras" I have offed the face /eye detections in settings, but still metering mode (PHOTOMETRY) is unselect able, can you please guide me what further settings I should check on this .
Thanks
Hi could you write which lens are you using in this movie on the xt1?thanks
In a landscape image would you typically focus with spot metering and meter the highlights?
yeah, that's what I do every time.
@@ChrisOrange Thanks! So many things to learn! :-) But, it's fun doing so. I use an XT-3 and it's been quite a lot of fun. One thing I should really do is to carry a notebook and write down what I practice and learn through trial and error since I don't shoot every day. The mind slips! LOL! Have a great weekend.....
Hey Chris! I have an X-E1, can't seem to find interlock. Do you know if it's called something else in those menus or maybe just not a feature in my camera? Thanks!
Hi there, I've just had a read through the X-E1 manual online (as I no longer have an X-E1) and it doesn't mention the interlock. I think it must have been something they brought in with the next gen of cameras, starting with the X-T1 and X-E2.
What bass you rockin
it belongs to my wife. It's an acoustic bass - sounds lovely.
XT1 only has average metering, and not multi. I think … Oh, my mistake, it’s center weighted it lacks. It has both average and multi.
