I first went to china in 1984 & everyone was on bicycles: there were no cars. Very 3rd world. The place i went to in china 1984 is now full of skyscrapers, massive metro tube system & electric cars. In 40 yrs 800 mil Chinese have been lifted out of poverty, GDP per capita increased from $200 to $12,000; built the best infrastructure in the world with high-speed rail network of over 40,000 km; 0% inflation. Do you understand the current state of democratic rights and freedoms in China? Do you know that China is a one-party dictatorship and an authoritarian regime?
Please correct me if I'm wrong in what I say next:
China has the Great Firewall, digital currency, facial recognition, a social credit scoring system, and internet censorship and surveillance. All of these harm individual and organizational rights and freedoms and serve as tools for the state to monitor and suppress dissent.
China has no opposition parties to provide checks and balances, no free media to act as a fourth estate, news is censored, information is opaque, and the Great Firewall limits people's access to outside information, restricting their connection to the world. There is no freedom of speech; basically, China enforces a one-voice policy. Isn't it true that whatever China says, people can only listen and believe?
China operates on the principle of "Central media sets the tone, central media belongs to the Party, the entire country speaks in unison, and there are no other voices." Inside the Great Firewall, all media content is uniform, repetitive, and identical, isn't it?
China has press bans, party bans, no right to assemble and protest, and religion is heavily restricted. There are banned books and songs, literary inquisition, and criticism of leaders is forbidden. Political matters should not be discussed recklessly, and there are restrictions on traveling abroad. CCTV is controlled by the Party and cannot freely criticize current events. The internet is monitored, and the firewall prevents people from connecting with the world. Carelessness can lead to being summoned or disappearing. Every person has an internal policeman. Does China truly have democracy, human rights, and freedom?
When the CCP issues orders from the top down, the Chinese people can only listen and obey. Do the Chinese people have the right or means to say no? When the CCP goes against mainstream public opinion, is there any balancing force in China? Don't you know this?
Xi Jinping amended the law to allow himself to rule for life. What can the Chinese people do? Can they do anything but offer unanimous support? What else?
Whatever the leaders say and decide, the Chinese people can only listen and obey, right?
What does your conscience tell you?!

Congress Proposes $500 Million for Negative News Coverage of China
The effort to counter China’s ‘malign influence’ would fund negative coverage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative-while also beefing up the U.S.’s international lending.
BY LEE HARRIS FEBRUARY 9, 2022
Congress allocates $500 million for media outlets to produce journalism for overseas audiences that is critical of China.
The bill would direct funding to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, a U.S.-run foreign media service, as well as local outlets and programs to train foreign journalists.

    • @stayfree870
      @stayfree870 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

500 million dollars. That's the sum of money the US congress allocate to churn out negative news coverage on China. First reported by American Prospect on Feb. 9, the bill was stuffed into the China-centered America COMPETES Act that got passed by the US House of Representatives. A majority of the half-billion-dollar fund will go to the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), a state-run media service that oversees Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe (RFE), and Radio Free Asia (RFA), which have a record of "blurring the line between objective news coverage and pro-American propaganda," the article wrote.

Unfortunately, China has not yet given the UK the best visa-free treatment. As a Chinese, I understand that there is a reason for this. The United States is very unfriendly to China and always uses mass media to attack and slander China. Unfortunately, the British government always behaves like a follower and servant of the United States and is also very unfriendly to China, including the media. The UK even followed the United States and drove warships to China's doorstep, which made the Chinese very angry. Therefore, it is easy to understand that the UK is not given visa-free treatment for the time being.

As a trader who's been following the geopolitical situation regarding the West and China for the past 20 years, the Chinese aren't "very angry", as its been going on for quite some time already. They're open to building friendly relations with the UK, as long as the UK is up for it - which in this case, they are not. It needs to be mutually beneficial, not like what the British had done to the Chinese following the Opium War, which led to China ceding their own territories like HK for the British to colonise.
@OnTourWithDridgers I'm glad you guys are challenging the decades old negative stereotypes held by many people in the West - no thanks to the mainstream media, and some other "social media" outlets who are on the payroll by certain anti-China "NGO" associations.
What does your conscience tell you?!

you guys did great for a first trip! lots of people can't even figure out the bikes and those are a great way to see a city. also props to trying out a lot of street food although you should just eat more at local sit downs so you can try out real homestyle dishes. when you visit again, you should post ahead of time so maybe you might be able to get a local to show you around for a bit when time allows.

Big tip for you guys... DO NOT come to China during national holidays from October 1-7 (Golden week). Never travel China or try to visit tourist attractions during their big holidays, there will be so many people (more than usual) you will end up hating the place. LOL. If you're going to Chengdu and Sichuan province, you should also go to the cyberpunk city of Chongqing... but better level up on your spice tolerance first.

Well said! My family moved to the States when I was young and now I am settled in the UK - I completely agree that you gotta see with your own eyes to form our own opinions and make sense of the world we live in. It always p* me off when people comment without ever visiting a place / country, are quick to judge, and disagree for the sake of it. Nowhere is perfect but if we can all learn from one another, we will all be at a much better place. I highly recommend Shanghai, Guangzhou/Shenzhen, and Chengdu, but if you want to go somewhere less known that will blow your mind (as it absolutely got everything) try my hometown DALIAN in the northeastern part of China, ideally between May to October. All the best to you both and I hope that you will continue to explore, experience, love, and spread the love!

Welcome to China and get to know the real China.
The Western society habitually views the world from an ideological perspective, just like religion. A society that is different from itself is an anomaly and must be opposed.
Socialism may be a relatively fair society compared to capitalism.
I believe that there is no perfect pattern in human society, and experiments should be conducted to find the most suitable form of society for humanity. Nowadays, capitalism in the West has stopped evolving, while China continues to evolve and change, taking a different social form from the West. If China succeeds, it can provide experience for other countries to reform their societies.

Great couple, great vids! I'm a Brit from Manchester and have been living in China for the last 18 years. During those 18 years my sister in Manchester has been home-jacked twice and car-jacked three times, my mum in Stockport has been burgled once. I have never been the victim of any crime and I have never herd of anyone's house being broke into. Does China have crime? Of course, but nowhere near the scale that England does.
The over-riding domestic strategy over here is 'harmonious co-existence' it sounds flowery but it basically means cohesion in society. There are propaganda signs all around that promote this (you may have seen the long red banners with white characters). The idea is that a peaceful, low crime society is a healthy one that can thrive.

All tickets for trains, tourist attractions, and public transport will be either unavailable or over-crowded by 1.45 billion people.
