My mom and I went to A&W for lunch today. They play oldies and this song played! Mom was very impressed that I knew all the words from listening to/watching this clip! :)
all those dances back in the sixties for this type of music was nothing but pure excersize but fun. I do this all the time because I love this type of music. Thank you mom for raising me on Annette and Frankie and all. From your 20 something kid! ^_^
This song is ridiculous but I can't stop listening to it. Illustrates the musical genius of the Beach Boys that they turned a song such as this into a masterpiece.
But she left us all with an extraordinary gift of her artistry which will forever be a part of our cultural history. I will always treasure my very fond memories of Annette - Mike Love
This is my favorite opening title sequence to ANY Disney film!! Annette and The Beach Boys....unbeatable combination!.....and written by the Sherman Brothers!
Annette's range may not have been that great, but what she lacked in technique she more than made up for in sincerity. Annette was a sweetie fully dedicated to her craft. Blessings to her!!!
According to WIkipedia, the film was released August 18, 1965. No telling when the song (sung by Annette Funicello backed by the Beach Boys) was recorded. By the time of the release, Brian Wilson was already at least contemplating the making of what would become Pet Sounds, but was still expected to churn out "Beach Boys" type music as it was known at the time.
Disney's Sherman Brothers had a great album with all these great songs on it. I used to play it all the time in the care with the kids...I played it so many times that my little girl hid it.
1965 was the release date acording to dvd release. I was an old man of 15 at the time and saw it several times. That was back when you could spend the afternoon in the theater if you want and watch something several times.
Annette was always screen credited as just "Annette" during her Disney work. When she did those beach movies for American International, her screen credit was Annette Funicello.
Great song, fun movie, good memories. I remember seeing this at the Dorval Theatre in Montreal when I was ten-years of age, along with my Dad and a friend.
I remember seeing this segment (although I don't remember the movie) a long time ago. I had completely forgotten about it. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to see if I can find the movie.
Wow thanks so much for posting this! I'm a brian / beach boys fan and never knew about this but the funny thing is I'm an animator so am seeing all these famous names related to animation Sherman, Miller etc flash up, is just wierd!! 10/10!
Note the song was written by the Sherman Brothers who are probably best known for the scores of Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They also wrote the pop hit "You're 16 You're Beautiful and You're Mine."
Remembering my Aunt Marta (Tita) who took me to see this movie at The Pershing Theater many moons ago...Afterward we went to "Winn's" to buy the little 45...Still have it! RIP Tita Miss 'ya bunches!
Yes, studio musicians were used on her records, mainly assembled by producer Tutti Camarata. As far as I know this song with the Beach Boys was the only one that used a well known band.
I, too, love the tone of their guitars, particularly Carl's. However, on this track, the guitars are being played by Tommy Tedesco (probably a Telecaster) and Bill Pitman. None of the Beach Boys were even in the studio when this backing track was recorded.
I was a young kid in the 80s/early 90s when the Disney Channel was still awesome enough to air classic Disney programming. I become of fan of Annette's when they aired films like this and reruns of the Mickey Mouse Club...Rest in Peace Annette.
It was released in 1964 on Annette's album called "Sings Golden Surfin' Hits." The album contains mostly surf-related songs. I don't know if the album has been released on CD.
All 3 Wilson brothers look adorable. My fave will always be Carl!! young, older, beard, no beard, always so beautiful. person. I was born in 69, so I missed all of this the first time around, but I love the BB, and its great to see all this now here! Thanks for posting... :)
Wow, you're 19, and you listen to this awesome music??? You have excellent taste, my friend! I LOVE and adore this song! Always have. It's so upbeat and perky. Makes you feel really good, and want to get up and dance;-) I gotta go hear that again!
sometime in the 1980s i saw a print of this "movie" (actually a 2 part Disney world of color tv show) WITHOUT ANY TITLES over the song on a spanish tv station! so i know it exists, would be nice if someone could find and post a copy, i hope when Disney gets around to put this on a new DVD they will include the theme with no titles atleast as an extra (knowing the crappy why Disney puts out DVDs i'm not holding my breath tho).
For me,it is so terribly painful, that the Walt Disney material i grew-up with, like this really "Family Freindly" movie,"THE MONKEY'S UNCLE",featuring vintage Beach Boys, and Annette-may she truly Rest in Peace,,was the superior example of what Walt Disney was about-and even sadder, that it no longer exists today! the Walt Disney today,is a name only corporation, that owns ABC,Marvel, and its newest acquisition,Lucasfilm Ltd., and its material is anything but the Family Friendly stuff that it was!
In the late Fifties,ANNETTE had a slightly similar backup band called the Afterbeats. When I re-saw "Disneyland After Dark" I thought that WAS the Beach Boys...Impossible, of course,LOL!! Flash-forward to this tune...Annette and Beach Boys did well together... and this movie was,I would guess,a spin-off of the "Absent-Minded Professor" movies....
Squeaky, It wasn't meant to be Mozart, just fun and catchy. And us guys didn't care, we just wanted to watch Annette. We would fantasize we could go out with her, she seemed sweet and approachable.
like i said it was shot for tv and letterboxed by the cropping method for theaters, according to a book i have this aired first in the UK as a movie, here it was first shown on TV.
this 1965 movie WAS hip...and its still hip. the look on the faces of Charlie watts and bill wyman when mick jagger is prancing about during a song---check out all those stones videos.
I wish Annette had done more songs with the beach boys. I love how they sound together.
Say what you want. How could anyone not love Annette Funicello and The Beach Boys???
One of the greatest songs ever to open a movie. It really gets you going. This is also a great film. Disney Magic!
My mom and I went to A&W for lunch today. They play oldies and this song played! Mom was very impressed that I knew all the words from listening to/watching this clip! :)
Best. Song. EVER.
all those dances back in the sixties for this type of music was nothing but pure excersize but fun.
The Beach Boys have unmatched, perfect, beautiful harmony.
totally epic. there isnt enough talent to do a flick like this now
Rest In Peace Annette.
But she left us all with an extraordinary gift of her artistry which will forever be a part of our cultural history. I will always treasure my very fond memories of Annette
- Mike Love
Annette was so happy when she found out she was going to perform with The Beach Boys because they were her favorite group.
So catchy! I love this song!
Teenage goddess of the '50s; I was so in love with her, as was every other red-blooded American boy of that era. She will live in our hearts forever.
Always a great theme from a great group and lovely Woman. R.I.P. Annette.
RIP Annette. Now you can join Carl, Dennis, and Jan. Hope they have a nice Beach Blanket for you up there.
The Fendertones brought me here.
Beach Boys include the Wrecking Crew. The Fendertones do everything without overdubbing.
I remember being a kid in the 60’s & Disney coming on channel 4 every Sunday night, super fond memories no doubt. I forgot how pretty Anette was.
Me too. Man, Annette was cute.
I have always loved how classy Annette Funicello is. Proof that you don't have to be loved by millions without having to bare all to the world.
Thank you so much for posting this! I know the song, but have never seen any part of this movie!!! This is exciting!
I'm 30, & I still LOVE this movie...
I love this song!! Thanks for posting. I want to see the movie now. :)
I can't help but like this song!
One of the best songs ever! Great movie as well.
Annette passed away today at the age of 70. R.I.P. sweetie !!
So sad the way she died too!

i love it! i just cant seem to stop watching it over and over!
WOW! I can't believe this is up! I've been searching and waiting for ever! thank you! Your rock!
GBU
@Brianbellew Brian Wilson fans... as well as Carl. An underappreciated and talented teddy bear of a guy who we'll all miss.
One of my favorite Beach Boys songs.
...that wasn't written by wilson nor sang (lead singer i mean) by any beach boy?
@electroplate Agreed...the Beach Boys sound is timeless....love those backup vocals and harmony.
Thanks for posting. I never realised Annette Funicello 'fronted' with the Beach boys so this was a treat.
I went and saw this movie with my sister's, I still think about how much fun we all had. 😄
Was 5 when I saw it and the song stuck- Discovered the Beach Boys when I was 11 but never put the 2 together until 20 years later...blew me away
We saw this when it came out. We were seven or eight then. Great movie. RIP Annette.
Now this is classic! The Beach Boys AND Annette! The 60's rocked when it came to music! Love the fashion and dances too!
Disney's Sherman Brothers had a great album with all these great songs on it. I used to play it all the time in the care with the kids...I played it so many times that my little girl hid it.
Awsome song just real fun...
I agree. A great fun song.
55 years later and I hear this for the 1st time! lol
Great song, and a great video. Thanks for posting. It's also a very hard to find movie.
1965 was the release date acording to dvd release. I was an old man of 15 at the time and saw it several times. That was back when you could spend the afternoon in the theater if you want and watch something several times.
Annette was so gorgeous
At 0:42 you know you're big when they only use your first name..Annette
***** It took many times watching GREASE to realize it was her they were talking about when they say "Nobody's jugs are bigger than Annette's"
Annette was always screen credited as just "Annette" during her Disney work. When she did those beach movies for American International, her screen credit was Annette Funicello.
You know your last name is too long and "ethnic" when Disney drops it from your screen billing.
RIP Annette. Princess of a Generation. Mike Love Not War!
Great song, fun movie, good memories. I remember seeing this at the Dorval Theatre in Montreal when I was ten-years of age, along with my Dad and a friend.
I love this song omg
Great song!! Annette will be sadly missed for sure!!
Mike Love is KILLING IT with those silent dance moves 😆
Annette funicell was my faviote singer and she still is through reuns on you tube
I remember seeing this segment (although I don't remember the movie) a long time ago. I had completely forgotten about it. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to see if I can find the movie.
Annette was at her most beautiful here. The best song The Beach Boys ever recorded. Just a GREAT FUN SONG.
Wow thanks so much for posting this! I'm a brian / beach boys fan and never knew about this but the funny thing is I'm an animator so am seeing all these famous names related to animation Sherman, Miller etc flash up, is just wierd!!
10/10!

Brian's falsetto can't be beat!
That middle guitar solo is something the beach boys should have done more in their songs that rock n roll right here
Don't think that was Carl playing on the track, some studio musician
It's available on Annette's Greatest Hits, a two cd collection. I've never seen it on a Beach Boys' collection, though!!
I love This Great Disney Movie!
This song is Great Too!
The Beach Boys and Annette Great Duet!
Yes, studio musicians were used on her records, mainly assembled by producer Tutti Camarata. As far as I know this song with the Beach Boys was the only one that used a well known band.
love the beach boys !
I miss these old songs.
Interesting trivia there. Thanx.
Thx for reminding us of time vanished from So Cal - the original BB lineup + RIP Annette.
I, too, love the tone of their guitars, particularly Carl's. However, on this track, the guitars are being played by Tommy Tedesco (probably a Telecaster) and Bill Pitman. None of the Beach Boys were even in the studio when this backing track was recorded.
I came here from your chan. Love The Fendertones.
Life was so simple and easy back then... I think I was 5 when this movie was made...
I've always loved Annette. Such an iconic teen star. We will miss you Ms. Funicello
GREAT SONG AND MOVIE THANKS JAMES
Absolutely wonderful
I was a young kid in the 80s/early 90s when the Disney Channel was still awesome enough to air classic Disney programming. I become of fan of Annette's when they aired films like this and reruns of the Mickey Mouse Club...Rest in Peace Annette.
Enjoyed it. Fun. Good cover.
It's also on track 16 of disc 2 of "The Best Disney Album in the World...Ever" IN STEREO (as seen in the related/suggested videos here).
Her singing is cute and the BB are awseome as always
Fendertones A must See best beach boys cover band they are just awesome !!!
Brian's high "ooooWOOOooooooo"s make this song
any time you get to sing with Annette you have to take it !
This just PROVES that The Beach Boys can make anything sound nice!
It was released in 1964 on Annette's album called "Sings Golden Surfin' Hits." The album contains mostly surf-related songs. I don't know if the album has been released on CD.
I was a high-school sophomore and now I'm a 73yr old "senior" citizen.
I can't stop watching this!
Annette and the Beach Boys were a perfect fit. Brian's falsetto was way off the charts. I agree. The Best part of this movie.
All 3 Wilson brothers look adorable. My fave will always be Carl!! young, older, beard, no beard, always so beautiful. person. I was born in 69, so I missed all of this the first time around, but I love the BB, and its great to see all this now here! Thanks for posting... :)
This kind of music makes me smile and be happy, this is real music and they were having true fun!! and im 36!
Wow, you're 19, and you listen to this awesome music??? You have excellent taste, my friend!
I LOVE and adore this song! Always have. It's so upbeat and perky. Makes you feel really good, and want to get up and dance;-)
I gotta go hear that again!
Wowwee. Annette was such an attractive Cutie Pie.
Rest in peace,beautiful.... I'm crying...you were a role model for us. 100% a LADY.
sometime in the 1980s i saw a print of this "movie" (actually a 2 part Disney world of color tv show) WITHOUT ANY TITLES over the song on a spanish tv station! so i know it exists, would be nice if someone could find and post a copy, i hope when Disney gets around to put this on a new DVD they will include the theme with no titles atleast as an extra (knowing the crappy why Disney puts out DVDs i'm not holding my breath tho).
OK,my psych says I can only listen to this twice a week...ha ha!
Love Mike's a "BRIDDDEEE" in his low bass voice! and then Brian's high voice!
For me,it is so terribly painful, that the Walt Disney material i grew-up with, like this really

of course,LOL!!
Flash-forward to this tune...Annette and
Beach Boys did well together...
and this movie was,I would guess,a spin-off
of the "Absent-Minded Professor" movies....
Great music came out of the 60's. Classic songs that will be appreciated for generations to come. Unfortunately this wasn't one of them.
Squeaky,
It wasn't meant to be Mozart,
just fun and catchy. And us guys didn't care, we just wanted to watch Annette.
We would fantasize we could go out with her, she seemed sweet and approachable.
RIP Annette. I'll always remember you like this.
like i said it was shot for tv and letterboxed by the cropping method for theaters, according to a book i have this aired first in the UK as a movie, here it was first shown on TV.
This was the best part of the movie!!!
The look on Dennis Wilson's face. Lol. Disneys attempt at being "hip".
this 1965 movie WAS hip...and its still hip.
the look on the faces of Charlie watts and bill wyman when mick jagger is prancing about during a song---check out all those stones videos.
goof kat ie....charlie watt & bill wyman... LOL watch the Stones "Hang FIre" and "Start Me Up" videos from the early 80s!!!! Priceless!!!!
goof kat I used to love to watch "the stones videos" and see Charles Watts look on his face.
Attempt?
Dennis Wilson was The Beach Boys’ answer to James Dean; the dude was the real deal
@@priscillawyatt5466 dude, James Dead was dead for years before The Beach Boys hit the scene!
the beach boys should've performed this at the grammy's!
Love the Sherman Brothers! Love Annette! Love the Beach Boys! Love Tommy Kirk! Love Disney! Love the mid '60's!
astounding. amazing. speechless...
I always loved Annette in this. xx
I love this movie.
