    Great examples Sifu Kevin. I'm a 25yr Wing Chun Sifu, and your real-world examples are beautifully demonstrated and very practical. I love how you changed the name of the double Lan Sao, into the "Oh Shit block" LOL!!! A brilliant way to program techniques into people's thoughts. Anyway, best of luck with the future of your channel brotha. 🤜💥🤛

    You're stuff is excellent. Thank you. I'd enjoy seeing more on integrating trapping with footwork and perhaps using traps to work into an advantageous clinch.

      Thank you for the kind words. Please take a look at the digital seminar on Budobrothers.com and let me know if you’re interested in purchasing. I think I have a discount code that can let you explore my interpretation of trapping.

    On the last move I think it would be better to add in an eye jab after doing the han sao.

    Trapping works when u know your opponent is supposed to do what they're told. Never seen useful in streetlights

      Trapping works when you train for what you're up against. Be it tournaments or street! Maybe you've never seen it. Same with Aikido too!

      @@YellowPaint100 its never used in mma. Neither is aikido. Lol what does that tell you about the style? It looks cool on film but it'll never be used in real life. You know what will be used? Bjj, wrestling, judo, muay thai, boxing , kickboxing

      @@MajorAALAN eye pokes, throat strikes, & groin strikes work too but are illegal. Keep on living, you'll see what I mean. Most guys aren't MMA or any other pro fighters. And several techniques are effective at defending against your avg guy.

      Its not too hard to do basic trapping and make it work in sparring, but pure boxers wont do it because its not legal in competition. The drills are for practise, its not expected that you would do it exactly like so in a fighy

    I've noticed a few comments about the size disparity between SIfu Kevin and his assistant. Firstly, I think it's irrelevant as it's just a demonstration. Secondly, never underestimate a smaller person. Look at Sumo, for example, there are no weight divisions but the smaller, more experienced guy often wins. I am always coming up against bigger opponents when I train and when I spar, rather than let it faze me, I see it as another opportunity to get better. The smaller person tends to rely more on strategy than brute force. And as the overall fighting strategy of Wing Chun requires conceptual thinking rather than analytical or technique-based thinking, it is perfect for the smaller guy who knows how to hit hard and play dirty.

      @@Selfdefensegoat Yes I agree. Will do! I know this is more tactical in nature... Maybe consider a video involving a backwards type of assault/ someone coming up and cuffing from behind. I see that the move is to roll out but I'd love your breakdown of how to maneuver in this scenario typically larger male attacking female. I'm never sure what to do if that happens and I'm in a grip not facing the person. I know to stay calm. What next?
      Thank you Kevin! Amazing work.

    In the past I have really been hard on your trapping.
    I'd like to qualify that here. Some trapping can work for me in very specific times and distances. As an infighter I will use trapping just before a clinch happens ,for a split second, to set up a punch, headbutt or to gain side control for a takedown/sweep/body slam . I'll only use it maybe once in a 3 minute round. I prefer to attack an attack. If you count on trapping for your defence, good luck.

    • @joshuahogan3475
      @joshuahogan3475 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you only use trapping for defense then you're using it wrong. Trapping should be at least as much offense as defense if not more. Think about the Wing Chun principle of maintaining forward pressure. Since trapping is such an integral part of Wing Chun, and constant forward pressure is key, why would trapping be defensive? Answer, it isn't. Attack with your ps. Use them to dominate your opponent and break his structure. Pull his hands away so he can't defend himself.
      Tl/Dr: Trapping is supposed to be majority offense not defense.

    This doesn’t work against decently quick attacks. Studied this stuff for 7 years and realized it was not real world applicable. Raising your arms in the block opens you up for a lower attack.

    Some wing chun techniques are good. But when it comes to this video, the technique where you lead his punch to the side. I think that’s one of the least effective techniques that’s thought in wing chun. It’s just bad and it doesn’t work.
