I actually would maybe even prefer if you bring on riders who are maybe not top of their team honestly. Remco or similar is really cool but I think you can have really insightful conversation with riders who maybe have interesting experiences but face the same struggles as us if that makes sense
I would love to hear from top rouleurs like Jan Tratnik for example! i agree, we hear so much about the top gc guys already, i also want to hear from people in other roles as well.
Thank you Patrick, Benji and Luke for the entertainment throughout all these years. I remember Patrick's bootleg video popping out on YT back in the day and been a listener since then. It was and still is a breath of fresh air in the world of cycling, keep up with the good work
Benji's must watch list (correct me if I'm wrong) Paris Roubaix 2016 Paris Roubaix 2022 Paris Roubaix 2023 Ronde van Vlaanderen 2011 Vuelta 2015 Stage 9 Giro 2017 Stage 16 Tour De France 2014 Stage 5 Tour De France 2011 Stage 18 Tour De France 2022 Stage 11
I don’t remember which season it was, but the best race for me to watch was the Tour Down Under. The reason being, is because most the best GC guys don’t show, there is always 4-5 youngsters who come into it in insane fitness because they’re trying to show out and get a Grand Tour slot on their team later in the year. Also, because the announcers always go into great detail about the off season moves - because it’s the start of the new season, and it was that race I heard my first quality breakdown of the classics and got so many lessons about cycling history in general.
Great vid! I would actually be more interested in rider interviews with youngsters like Nordhagen, Finn etc. Mainstream channels don't give attention to them yet so nice to learn how they look to their future carreers, ambitions and how they are getting on so far. More established riders can be more skilled in the art of saying nothing because they get interviewed more often.
@@jurgenimschoot1704 I'm with Patrick :D The level at TDU or Mallorca Challange has become a lot higher compared to older editions and I'm excited to watch them
Great podcast!! You guys kept me company as I fixed Christmas breakfast! Merry Christmas to you both. Tro Bro Leon- I love that race. And I love CX but I totally get why you both need a break. Loved your ideas, and I love the weekly podcast. I really loved the idea of you guys calling races on TH-cam etc. make it so??😂 Christmas Vacation- yearly watch, but we watch the old classic White Christmas every year. Patrick would not like it since it's a musical. 😊 Wicked is very good! Not a typical musical and pretty amazing to watch. Enjoy! Thanks, guys.
I would like to say that the biggest cycling races being on free-to-air tv is really important for the sport. I started watching the Tdf back in 2012 aged 6 with my dad (he always watched before that too) on ITV and we watched it every year after that. And every year i would really look forward to it and then ITV got the rights to the Vuelta for a few years and seeing Simon Yates win in 2018 was amazing. Then i started watching a few of the classics on pirate websites and amstel gold race 2019 i think where MVDP won was my first. I then got really into cycling and now have a subscription to discovery+ so I can watch it all and i love the podcast too. But without ITV broadcasting the tour for free I wouldnt be a mad cycling fan at all, I would never have paid to watch it and I would never have heard of this podcast. So free-to-air cycling is really important and you should be able to watch at least the tour for free in all countries and its really sad that that will no longer be the case from 2026 in the UK. Anyway great podcast. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year lads It’s been a wild ride over the last few years. Always Top Tier content Benji welcome to the old timers club. I’m pretty sure the tail end of the Jan Ulrich era was a little bit longer than ten years ago 😂😂 Keep On Keeping On
Actually you skimmed a topic that could be an entire pod. Athletes that joined the sport late from another sport. Roglic, cam wurf and Kristen Faulkner are great examples. Also they have fresh legs, big engines but lack peloton skills ( catch Faulkner on G’s pod)
Legit would listen to you guys talk shit about anything. Cheers for dropping this episode just in time for a Christmas day escape from the chaos 😂 Have you ever thought about a TDU live in person pod event? I would 1000% come over from NZ for that. Edit just saw another comment saying someone is excited for TDU announcement, I might have spoken before listening to the whole pod 🎉🎉🎉 Edit 2: OK that's very soon, can you give us a bit more notice for 2026 as annual leave is already budgeted for 2025 😂 but that's so bloody exciting, 10/10
RVV 2023 should really be in Benji's list too. Serious breaks from far out which almost hold the lead to the finish and the the incredible battle between the big three and the continuing question of whether they could catch the break. It had everything a good classic needs.
The greatest bike race I’ve ever seen was Visma and their strategy on some mountain stage the year Pogi broke his wrist, (experts know these names/years) but honestly it was genius, it was a tag team to wear him out like I’ve never seen, Wout was genius. Then there was Paris Roubaix the year Matt Hayman won, won and had the best media I’ve ever seen, heard it was a bit illegal, but did a great job for cycling as a whole.
It’s a shame you guys don’t cover cyclocross, but I understand the lack of depth on the men’s side does make it less attractive. The women’s peloton is packed with world class road riders though. Van Empel, Brand, Pieterse, Van Anrooij, Vos, Vas, Schreiber, Backstedt, the Holmgrens, Gery and Ferguson make it a really interesting winter distraction. Maybe you could outsource or collab with some CX experts. There are loads out there who would add value to your brand and benefit from your considerable reach.
I would also enjoy interviews with more experienced riders. Maybe Degenkolb ahead of his final classic season or Juul-Jensen ahead of a grand tour as a road Captain
The drone footage at O Gran Camino with Vingegard was amazing. I don't get why you don't ask for that. Do you have any empirical basis for saying it w as unsafe, or just feelings? It was behind him.
Current American viewing situation for WT racing. Peacock, Max, and Flo. If I am sure of who is broadcasting a certain race, I usually check Max first then just go down the list. It is pretty annoying. Really miss GCN. I could watch the Eurosport broadcast via VPN on my TV prior to it folding.
If you want to get rid of tiedye blue kits, sponsor the kom jursey at la vuelta, make the Lanterne rouge kom jursey tai dye light blue and now no team is allowed to wear a tai dye team kit!!
Agree in general, but I would say LRCP spend a good amount of time on the women's season. Knowledgeable and informative - see the review of SD-Worx' snafu over Vollering at the TdFF
I was kinda disappointed with the TDU (and Emirates tour) last year, some of these riders the commentators made it sound like they were ACTUAL contenders in the world tour, and I never heard about them for the rest of the year 🤨. For just regular viewers that aren’t real professional analysts of cycling, it’s disappointing, and makes me feel like there’s a culture of lies & phoniness surrounding the sport, even in the commentating/analysis side of things
@@brandonvillegas9249If this bothers you, I cannot imagine how you get through your day. TV is a nightmare, billboards every seven feet and some of them are electronic, on and on and on. I am deeply bothered by advertising and this never annoys me, for what it’s worth.

Benji's must watch list (correct me if I'm wrong)

Gent Wevelgem 2015

Patrick’s picks
Vuelta 2014 Froome vs Contador
Giro 2015 Stage 16 Astana vs Contador
Correction rainy muddy version of Roubaix was 2021 Oktober with moscon nearly winning
2018 Giro stage 19 being left out is a shame. Also that was the canary in the coal mine that change in the sport was coming with fueling strategy
More Q&A's please! Doesn't even need to be about cycling, I'd even listen to you guys talk about your favourite rocks for an hour if possible

Benji doesn't watch cyclocross? How will he travel to Australia now that we have to revoke his Belgian passport?
Excited about the tour down under announcement. I am not from Australia, have never been there, never watched the race, yet this sounds exciting!
The main problem with the tour down under is that Patrick thinks the season has started, while everyone knows it doesn't until Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 😊
