Getting KTFO in the UFC in front of family, friends, team, people who've invested and given up time and money to be there... it is the other side of all the glory fighters chase. I've been on both ends of bad KO's in major UFC fights - millions of people watching. This is what it feels like...

Seeing someone knocked out the first time in the dojo is a wtf moment. The way they come to, the look of shock with no idea what happened at all. They at times don't even remember starting that sparing round.

Brother you'll always be the best to me I wish you were still fighting and as far as I'm concerned I know you only had the belt for a bit but you've been screwed over so much want to come to fight you should have had that belt years and years ago many times over God bless you and your family stay safe💯✌✌✌👍

Hey Michael not for nothing but most of those people didn't like you before the knockout and so after you got knocked out they just were happy to see you not speaking for a minute. I personally find Dan Henderson that he was one of my heroes in the octagon. But you sir I respect because rarely did you ever do anything other than exactly what you said you were going to do in the ring. You always had great ability to destroy your opponents with lightning fast hands and a brutish bullish style. I was very happy to see when you got the opportunity and took a belt.

Got KO’d in the street when I was 15 when I got jumped by three dudes. It took 3-4 days before I could make new memories. I was unconscious for about 5 minutes, laying in the street, literally.....at least thats what people told me. People told me I was trying to fight the police and ambulance workers, refusing to go to the hospital.....covered in blood. Finally realized/accepted what happened the day I was being discharged from the hospital. My memories of that night are like a dream. I remember bits and pieces.....but thats it.
The worst part was the YEARS of headaches and insomnia. It really fucked me up......the aftermath. Probably a lot of depression too, but that wasn’t really a thing in the mid-90’s.
I feel like it honestly took close to 8 years before I felt normal and healthy again. I had no idea at the time though, what was going on with me, because we just didn’t know that much at the time about post concussion syndrome, or how to treat brain injuries.
It effected my life very negatively, during what should have been a fun time in life. It also taught me a lot about perseverance and taking control of my life at the same time. It all turned out alright in the end......had a lot of success in life, but if I could skip one day in my entire life, that would definitely be it.

Also, respect Mike. I watched TUF back in the early days. You played the cocky British guy perfectly. We all hated you, but we always watched you. Look at you now.....one of the most beloved figures in the sport.

You probably had lasting brain damage. Most KO’s for someone last like a minute tops before they get up. Getting knocked out for 5 whole minutes means that you may have experienced serious brain damage.

Concussion is something which cannot be explained to someone who has never been there.
I really feel for someone like Ben Askren, who was considered a huge prospect until he met Jorge Masvidal. That effectively ended his career. There are many others like him. Jorge himself got his clock cleaned by Usman, who got HIS clock cleaned by Edwards. It can happen to anyone. People who talk trash have themselves never been in a ring, or on a mat. Take it from whence it comes.

I got knocked out once in a high school wrestling match. Dude suplexed me and my head bounced off the the mat. I also didn't know where I was for the rest of the night. It was the 90s and concussions weren't studied as much then. I was laughed at by some team mates. It was horrible. I had a headache for almost a week afterwards. I would never make fun of fighters after a knockout. It's scary shit.

    • @jamesandrews568

But you know what there's some science to that says if you weren't aware it was that bad for you well then it's not even really that bad for you. I live in Asia and you will see these trucks packed 50 ft high going around a sharp corner and you're thinking the whole time oh my God, it's going to fall it's going to fall, it's going to fall, and the driver looks at you and winks cuz he's like I didn't go to school past 4th grade so his reality just makes it different.

Damn! That’s eye opening to reveal that post vicious KO some fighters literally don’t even remember training for a fight. Michael Bisping. I actually really enjoyed this video. It verbalized exactly how i feel. I was never into following any sport. Then i came across mma and was a fan before i even realized. Ive always seen it as somebody doing a regular 9 to 5. Only they were cooler. They were times i would want a certain individual to get shut up or knocked out. Then when it happened my feelings towards the fighter changed. Even if i still didnt "like" them afterwards i would still root for them unless they were going up against one of my favorite fighter. You are one of those fighters i just spoke about Michael and even tho i assumed Luke would win the rematch i was so excited and happy for you. No body deserved anything but you deserved that win, that belt!. Congratulations on your retirement as a professional fighter and story book career.

I 100% agree with Bisping. These athletes that have the guts to enter that cage are all elite athletes, you can't be a poser and get into the UFC as someone will have exposed you on your journey there. Every fight (unless there is an unlikely draw) will have a winner and a loser. It does not make the person who lost a loser, it makes them the loser of that fight but they are still an elite warrior that has performed time and time again to get there. Judge a person's track record rather than single events...

When Bisping was rising through the ranks I absolutely could not stand him, his time on TUF made me hate him even worse and I was thrilled when he caught that Hendo bomb. After that, I think he realized that a true prizefighter doesn’t need the WWE schtick to achieve greatness. The guy suffered a knockout that would’ve broke a lot of fighters mentally, but Bisping showed his true spirit, grit, determination and came back a better version himself. Now he’s a legend. That’s why we love him. He’s one of my favorite former fighters, and my favorite commentator.

Thank you for the honesty Mike, I respect fighters of all combat sports.. getting KO'd looks amazing but being on the receiving end is a different story

I think this is amazing insight. You rarely hear people speak about what it's like after a brutal ko like that. Bisping is the man for this.
