Slyze Ben is wrong on so many issues it just depends on if AOC would be able to call out his strawmans and debate tricks. He’s been doing this a long time so AOC could struggle in that sense, but in terms of being correct, aoc would win the debate

    • @duchdsiuHGEWIU
      @duchdsiuHGEWIU 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

Slyze Slyze using venezula as an argument whenever socialism/ democratic socialism comes up is probably his most embarrassing one, takes about 10 seconds of critical thinking to understand why that makes no sense, calling bernie a communist for wanting public healthcare, his apologist rhetoric for US imperialism and just being a massive bush apologist was full of blantant lies honestly. And I’m pretty sure AOC didn’t say “everyone has two jobs” but if she was saying many have two jobs that a perfectly valid comment. And unemployment in itself isn’t a good way to judge the economy because none of the jobs being created are well paying. People didn’t give obama credit when he created minimum wage jobs, shouldn’t give it to trump either.

Perhaps the Democrats of that time were far-right by today's standards (at least on race), but they were the left-wingers and progressives of that era. Jackson tried to break up the banks in the name of class warfare, just as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren seek to do now. Meanwhile, Republicans (and the Whigs before that) were the more conservative, right-leaning, business-oriented, moralistic party, just as is the case now.

      @user-yr9lt7dz8k ปีที่แล้ว

@@zachary7897 One of the best ways to build up the black community is to get a divorce from the racist Democrat jackass party. Trillions of dollars and decades of a sick allegiance to the Democrats have done absolute damage and destruction to the black community. After all that the Republicans have done to liberate the black man and woman from the vile clutches of the racist Democrat jackass party and for the black community to swear allegiance to their prior slave masters is just sick and wrong. I don't care if you all go join a third party or go back to the Republican party, you must divorce the Democrats who have done nothing for you all but ride you for votes and money. The Democrats have done nothing but keep you all in their inner city plantations and abuse you physically, emotionally, mentally, economically, electorally and spiritually. So, it's no secret that the Democrat jackass party has such an awful track record of systemic racism and it's no doubt that they are trying to correct their collective reputation but they are doing it the wrong way. Instead of trying to sincerely and honestly repent of their political, civil and moral sins, they are trying to use ungodly, satanic and demonic ideologies to sweep their filth, their cobwebs and skeletons under the carpet. Instead of making a contrite and substantial apology for their inhumane treatment of minorities, offering to make restitution out of the Democrat party's coffers and political funds for slave reparations, coming to terms with the fact that their party's brand has such a notorious stain to the point of disbanding and dissolving altogether and to make and keep promises to root out racism, they push this bullshit marxist critical race theory to the point where it further divides the American population. Innocent, non-racist Republicans and Independents have no need to allow crt in their lives and in the lives of their children. Godly repentance is sufficient for Republicans and Independents to root out sin wherever it is found in their hearts and minds, not satanic forms of mind and behavioral control mechanisms. The racist leftist Democrat jackass party has a long way in trying to salvage their evil reputation as slave masters and tyrannical dictators. Democrats have been actively engaged in an ethnic cleansing and genocide of the black community for ages. They enslaved the black man for decades, they created the KKK to terrorize and coerce the black community into submission, wrote/passed/enforced racist Jim Crow laws to segregate, prejudice, persecute and dehumanize the black community for additional decades, lynched both black and white Republicans for helping black people to obtain their rights, HEAVILY resisted the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s, passed the Open Society Act which destroyed the black family pimping black women into welfare dependent baby-mommas and then passed racist drug laws throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The racist white supremacist Democrat KKK slave master party has decimated the black community and has shoved satanic and demonic ideologies down the throats of the black man and woman such as the victim complex which seeks to make black men and women into dumbed-down, lazy, dependent, ignorant, ungrateful substandard to mediocre voting slaves and the gender confusion of the transgender cabal. All of which is designed to keep black people from excelling and achieving their goals and dreams and creating godly, Christ-like families. The Democrats have turned black people into hateful, vengeful radical activists to destroy the American population. The democrats have no room or moral authority to advocate for a racial community that they are guilty of erasing by encouraging and legalizing the abortions of 30 million unborn black babies. The black community has stagnated at 13% of the American population for decades due to such radical and racist policies. It is literally in the Democrat DNA to enslave and subjugate the black man and woman, reversely it is in the Republican DNA to liberate and magnify the black community.

Businesses would hire less people, business would fire employees they couldn’t afford, businesses would cut employees hours, unexperienced or uneducated workers would not be able to get jobs because there labor would not be worth their salary, if you can’t get a job you can’t gain experience therefore killing the entry level worker. You may think everyone works for giant greedy corporations but some of us actually work for small businesses or own small businesses in very small towns, if they raised minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour this would destroy small businesses and our small towns would see very bad times. Also, we arent taking away the market based system, we just think having to pick between (pay for food to eat for the week) or (buy this $100 rescue inhaler in case my child has a random asthma attack and could easily fucking die before medical attention reaches him) and guess what, a lot of people have far worse consequences and conditions than asthma.
Also should the US be subsidizing the farmers for the Trade War (socialism) or should the farmers had known better that this was going to happen and that this is just bad over investment in China that ended poorly?

Both things can be true. Businesses and the wealthy have been decimating the middle class and therefore doing well. Businesses and the wealthy have been keeping larger shares of profits for themselves, and therefore wages have not kept up with inflation. That's people knock trickle down economics.
Imagine if you're might class, and every business around you, in an effort to maximize their profits is raising their prices, even slightly every year. It's not just one business, it's your insurance company, the gas companies, car parts companies. Part of that pursuit of profit is also minimising costs, which can mean layoffs, or minimizing pay raises to you, their employee, so you're getting it from both ends.

After watching enough Shapiro I’ve come to learn his general attitude with govt and free markets... that free markets tend to provide lower cost-better quality commodities than govt distribution can.
So I can imagine Ben saying: wages would outpace inflation if truer competition was promoted by govt rather than inhibited, which I can see him attributing to Obama.
Not saying this is my opinion, just Ben’s.

@@TdotSoul over 90% of US businesses are small to medium businesses. These businesses are well within the middle class themselves, and do not represent million dollar owners or executive boards.
The assumption that businesses are hurting the middle class, or that they are decimating them is simply untrue. They are the middle class. Only 5% of US businesses are incorporated, the majority of which are also sole proprietors or small business, and only about 1-2% are publicly traded with boards of directors and chief executive positions.
The average business takes at least 2 years to turn a profit, and the survival rate of businesses beyond 10 years is about 50%, meaning the average middle income business owner will face a 50% chance of not being able to provide for their family on the model.
I’m sorry, but both simply cannot be true. Cenk’s understanding of economics is extremely naive.

@@TdotSoul as a former financial adviser, having actual education and application in finance and economics, allow me to go over the points Cenk made and demonstrate the problem in his claims:
Cenk is wrong on how insurance works. The healthy do not pay for the sick. The premiums cover the cost of insuring against a risk. The money made by insurance companies comes from investing those premiums. Which is why I could offer my clients health insurance coverage that for things like Critical Illness coverage that, in the event they never used it during their term, they got all their money back. Cenk is factually incorrect on how insurance works, which ultimately will lead to a failure to implement an effective strategy for it when the strategy is based on functioning in a manner in which the service does not work.
Cenk is also wrong about the golden era being high tax eras. In the 1960s when taxes were 90% as he said, there were 4 recessions….and no one paid that. Federal records show that the average taxes paid was closer to 25%, despite it 90% tax rates. The records also show that only about 17% of the GDP was collected in tax revenue, while it hit 18% in the 1980s after drastic tax cuts, and the GDP grew. That 18% was of a larger pie.
He’s also wrong about corporate taxes. The following studies have shown across the world that those corporate taxes were actually collected at the expense of increased prices, as well as reduced employee wages:
Increasing taxes by 1% of GDP was correlated with a decrease in real GDP of roughly 2.5-3%. (David Romer and Christina Romer, 2010)
      eml.berkeley.edu/~dromer/papers/RomerandRomerAERJune2010.pdf
A study of 21 OECD countries, found that income taxes are associated with lower economic growth than consumption and property taxes. Corporate taxes having the most negative impact. They also found progressive income taxes have a negative impact on growth. (Arnold, 2008)
      www.oecd.org/officialdocuments/publicdisplaydocumentpdf/?doclanguage=en&cote=eco/wkp(2008)51
Employees bear the cost of 30-35% of corporate taxes. Raising corporate taxes means raising taxes for employees as well. (Serrato, Zidar, 2016)
      www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.1257/aer.20141702
Analysis of Canadian data from 1972 to 2010 and confirmed that corporate income taxes are more harmful than personal and sales taxes. Indeed, they found that in five provinces, increasing the corporate income tax would actually cost provincial treasuries money. For Alberta specifically, they found that a corporate tax increase would be roughly three times as damaging as a sales tax increase, and twice as damaging as a personal income tax increase (Ferede and Dahlby, 2016).
      journalhosting.ucalgary.ca/index.php/sppp/article/download/42577/30459/
Increasing corporate taxes by $1 was shown to decrease worker wages by $0.95 to $3.85 across all ten provinces.
      journalhosting.ucalgary.ca/index.php/sppp/article/download/42636/30513/
A one percentage-point increase in marginal corporate taxes would reduce wages between 0.14% and 0.36%. (Felix, 2009)
      www.kansascityfed.org/PUBLICAT/ECONREV/PDF/09q2felix.pdf
Data on 55,082 companies located in 9 European countries over the period 1996-2003 show that $1 of additional corporate tax reduces wages by 92 cents in the long run. (Arulampalam, Devereux, and Maffini, 2012)
      www.researchgate.net/publication/4998774_The_Direct_Incidence_of_Corporate_Income_Tax_on_Wages
A recent study by Ebrahimi and Vaillancourt (2016) estimated the effects of corporate income taxes on wages within Canada. They estimated that a one percent increase in statutory corporate tax rates would lead to a reduction in inflation-adjusted hourly wages of between 0.15% and 0.24% (Ebrahimi and Vaillancourt, 2016).

The Cayman Islands aren’t tax havens. The Cayman Islands are a rule of law state. It’s the protection of rights and ease for business thanks to these well defined rights that is why so many companies set up there. The country actually thrives because of this free market system which generates great tax revenue without burdens that hurt the public.
Cenk’s claim that corporations give more than unions is moot, given that the top corporations are tech companies that, each on their own, are worth more than the entire oil industry in the US, for which over 90% went to his party. The idea that Republicans are bought by corporations is demonstrably false. It’s BOTH parties that are, just different corporations. And that is entirely the point of the problem. It just so happens that currently the overwhelming vast majority of GDP is generated by the corporations that overwhelmingly donate to Democrat candidates that encourage higher taxes and regulations. And this isn’t coincidental. It’s intentional. The higher the tax rates and regulations against those actually adhering to them, which the smaller businesses and middle class must, the less competition there is for those big enough to lobby congress to get exempt from the burdens they paid to get put in place in the first place.
Cenk is wrong on what crashed the 2008 economy as well. Since 2001, the federal reserve artificially held interest rates at historic lows, causing increases in demand for loans. Backed by taxpayer bailouts through Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the investment banks had no incentive not to lend to the high risk lenders who knowingly would default. In fact, the incentives created by the very policies Cenk advocates made it so that ONLY those banks that invested in them would survive. Should a bank have been ethical and not given out loans to high risk borrowers, their competition would have, eventually swallowing their market, and buying them out to avoid default. In 2001, the rate of high risk mortgages represented about 10% of mortgage backed securities markets. By 2008, it was about 50% of the market. The direct intervention of the state caused this system to become unsustainable. The second the market took a downturn, defaults started coming in, to the point where entire securities collapsed, and the state had to intervene with their “too big to fail” mantra. This wasn’t the result of bankers paying themselves dividends (which I question if Cenk understands the function of). It was the result of interventionist policies and attempts to centrally plan the economy in order to help those at the bottom. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The problem wasn’t related to Glass-Steagull. It’s that Glass-Steigull didn’t apply to separating the government from those banks.
His argument about big vs small government is a false dichotomy. Classical liberals and libertarians both oppose big government in all the examples Cenk gave. And for a reason. It is not a requirement that one address them based on application. The classical liberal approach to small government is to allocate the control to local levels, where politicians are in direct contact with their constituents on a small scale that is based on their community. There is always more than two options, and it is intellectually dishonest to reduce it to the sophistry of such a dichotomy.
His claim about paying for education with the Iraq war funds is unfounded. The cost of free tuition was estimated try the Biden administration intent on making it affordable, at $750 billion/year, or half the cost of the entire Iraq war, which spanned 8 years. The cost of the war was $1.79 trillion, which amounts to less than $224 billion/year, or 3.4 times less than the cost of free tuition.
