they've been talking about those expansion cards since the 2400 came out. There's also supposed to be an output replacement for OG 2400s that puts a variable filter on all 8 outs, and will be standard on 2400s once released. But there's so much going on, as you mentioned.
What I love about the S2400 overall is ISLA is always looking to constantly improve it. Effects, filters, bug fixes, new features etc. It feels like an instrument that represents a company that truly listens.
I get midi feedback and I’ve tried everything. I don’t sequence midi, I like playing live but the midi feedback is an issue. Is a pity, mine is in the wardrobe. Also very disappointed with the fx card price. They promised fx right from the beginning, there’s even a dedicated button for it. Now we have to pay 800€ with taxes and shipping for a card that doesn’t contain fx itself, so then you have to pay for it as well. The real problem, the thing nobody is mentioning, the interaction with the fxs. I have a Zoia, amazing fx unit, but very little interaction to perform with it. I can see the isla in the same way. I think that Isla has to improve in the performance workflow is they wanna call it a groove box. The sequencer is very stiff. I really wanted to love it cause there are very good things about it but is not there yet. Sorry to say. Also I’m worried about the latency that some fx will bring.
You know, you bring up a lot of good points. I know that Brad said the card will ship with effects that they are working on but it has the ability to load your own. I'm seeing how it goes in regards to that. It's a fantastic machine but $800 to simply add effects to it....ehhh....I dunno, might as well just sell the unit and use the money towards something that already has them and a more flexible sequencer. But we shall see.
@@EverettDudgeon138thanks. I bought the DT 2 and I think is what I need now. Robust midi seq, good midi clock, crazy sample mangling, fx, lfos, and for almost what the card cost (I have special taxation with Europe) Small, sturdy and with a power bank portable. I cannot be happier. I don’t know if I’ll sell the Isla. I will like to see where it goes but I’ve been waiting too long now, 🤷🏻♂️. What I do know is that I’m not buying the fx module now. I’m sure prices will go up and down like what they did with the isla. Is not solid tested. I’m also worry about the interaction and latency. I wouldn’t buy it until I have some feedback from the users. I’m a bit tired of being an “undercover betta tester” or guinea pig. We pay as customers and we should get satisfaction right away without waiting for future promises of firmware updates.
I think what you’re trying to accomplish towards the end is found in the live looping function. I have not ran my other experiment through midi such as you but i have taken sounds from software and played them into the 2400. Let me know if that works for you. 🙏🏿
The S2400 was way too buggy for me to keep around. I feel like its selling points are better covered with other samplers….Lofi-12 XT, SP-404, Gemini-DS8, Roland MS-1, etc….a user can combine any of these and have similar lofi sound artifacts and superior sequencing; plus effects. For a fraction of the cost, too.
Ironically enough I actually just sold my S2400. I agree in general with your statement. Once the effects board was announced at a cost of $500 USD I was out. For what I want the S2400 to do, there's a lot more economical alternatives like you said.
Hi` `i don't know how to use its sequencer, coming from a DAW world.. I have a TR-8, Blofeld, Minitaur and Odyssey I'd love to sequencer with the 2400 to eventually perform live.. Can you please do a video on how to set it up, if possible?
@@EverettDudgeon138 Thats a very weird problem you have. I dont understand why the 2400 would detect arp data from your PX but not key data. How have you got it wired up?
@@EverettDudgeon138 Is step recording mode the only way of inputing notes into the 2400? is there a real time recording mode? The 2400 is still very much a work in progress. I expect these sort of issues to be ironed out in future firmware updates.
Hey thanks for the video! One thing, how is the prophet 6 hooked to the isla? I have my one by midi din in and out so that I can record the midi I play in the Prophet into the Isla and then play it back from the midi track, just like you did with the prophet x. Problem is I get midi feedback and hanging notes 😅.
It is really a special instrument. Sounds absolutely great.

It certainly is interesting seeing how things progress. As it stands now, bugs aside, it's near perfect for what it is.
@@EverettDudgeon138 totally happy with mine as it is. Anything else will be a pleasant surprise.
Prototype cards are in this shipment. So after some bets months expect the expansion cards early next year.
Thanks for the review. I had a rossum sp1200 but I sold it and now I’m actually really considering the s2400

Why did you sell the sp1200?

wow, Great S2400!!!
Thanks. I sold it. :)
Definitely ❤the machine
talk about under promising and over delivering. totally dig my s2400! nice review
Hi. Can you tell me what stand those are on ?
Arpeggiator would make this much more valuable.

No it's not audio looping, it's to do with MIDI. Mickey actually said they would look into this. :)
Did you get this sorted ?
Good stuff. Do you have the Tempest MIDI with the S2400?
Not for this example but I have synced them before...if you check out my Retribution video, it showcases them together.

Yup.

It will recognize the keys but just not in Step Record.

It should cost no more then 500.00 there’s not much inside
It may as well be $5000. I'm jobless.
so what should an OG sp1200 cost then?
i think it is a good alternative or even a better version of the sp 1200 for half the price
Thats unfortunately not how it works mate😅
