I have watched over 900 Ren Reaction vids... Most of them for Hi Ren and I have to say, you both impressed me so much with your insight, your intellect, and your ability to change your mind... especially after you realized what the song was really about. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to listen to you two give more insightful responses to this song and video than so many other reactors. You immediately picked up on the nuance of what Ren was conveying. So much so, that even your long tangent was interesting! (Don't tell the other reactors I usually fast forward thru theirs) You both have an amazing ability to empathize with people and see what's in front of you from someone else's perspective. You 100% made a new fan of your channel. Thank you so much for reacting to this song. And thank you for your humor as well. You both made me laugh on a day I needed it most. Liked & subscribed. 🥰🙏🏽❤️
...p.s. don't listen to the haters who will come and tell you how you SHOULD HAVE reacted or how you SHOULDN'T have laughed, etc... It was your honest reaction AND you both admitted you were wrong and ended up liking the song! So pay them no mind. I understood why you laughed... And any other intelligent and honest person should too. If anything, your reaction only proves how powerful Ren's song is, that it captured your attention and brought you in, even after you were ready to blacklist it. 😘❤️ Keep up the awesomeness, luvs!

yo guys i am so god damn proud of both ya, you have no f ing idea… i would have had the same beginning thoughts about the video, you guys do hiphop mostly… and most woulda just shut video off and not even put out a video… but to see you ride it out and let yourself understand what was going on was amazing… most have an idea on what to expect going in but i can see it in your reaction you gus genuinely didn’t… not your fault…. the best thing was seeing you two have a honest conversation between 2 people not knowing all the answers which is why we all humans ..: but to be understanding of each and willing to listen to one another was a site to see… you both are and will be great MEN… good for both y’all .. when i tell ya REN is so talented .. i’m a hip hop head like yo self’s but here are my favorites
    1…. chalk outlines live
    2… genesis
    3… sick boi
4.. I Shot The Sheriff/ Road To Zion/ HIpHop…. yo you would think bob marley was still alive…

That 180 was fascinating to watch and a testament to the power of Ren. If you do more Ren I'd suggest, 'Illest of our Time', 'Sick Boi', 'The Hunger', Money Game part 1 and 2, 'Genesis (live acoustic)', 'Tale of Jenny and Screech (full)', Ren x Chinchilla - How to be me (live), 'Ren & Sam - Blind Eyed ft Angry car park attendant'

I too have watched hundreds of these, and honestly, this is my favorite one. it covered everything i enjoy about watching people experience this for the first time. that opening guitar draws you in, then you get hit with the yodel and it throws you off, and i sit here and enjoy the thought of how you (guys) have no idea what you're about to get into, then the switch up on the opening lyrics does it again, but then you start listening. lol, you guys played it to a tee. everyone has their insights, some better than others, some amazing and intuitive, but i was particularly impressed with yours', those jokes and bias completely abandoned without a second thought. how deep you guys went into the thought experiment of what it's like to live like this, how hard that must be; a full on scholarly discussion.
    instant respect.
Like you guys, i had never heard of this guy before this, but I encourage you to give this several viewings, because Ren put a lot into this, subtle notions, hidden insights, everything here has a meaning, even some parts you might think are mistakes because it's a live one take performance are added purposefully in composition. I honestly like to think of it as a Sistine Chapel, with many, many secrets, and i promise you that even on your 20th viewing you will have more to discover.
I know of course it's subjective, but one key point i believe Ren was trying to make here that i think a lot of people get hung up on was good vs evil. like he said, "it's not David vs Goliath, its a pendulum.", but it's not three characters, good, evil, and you. There is only one character in this video. You're not the pendulum. You are the clock.

Ren was spotted Busking when he was a teenager and he was signed with Sony...around the age of 17 he fell ill with chronic fatigue and was but on drugs for bipolar and told it was all in his head.
He grew more I'll over the next 7 or so years and was nearing the end of his ability to cope with the mental and physical pain and he released a video basically saying as much and it was seen by a doctor in America who offered him a new stem cell treatment free of charge if he could get to California. Ren had 2 surgeries and felt a little better however he eventually raised enough money to go to Brussels and see another specialist who finally correctly diagnosed him as having Lyme's Disease...
The years of incorrect treatment and misdiagnosis caused brain damage and damage to his immune system ...he also suffers PTSD from all the years of doctors and medical professionals that just threw pills at him.
He spent years bed bound and whiled away his time writing, singing, rapping, playing guitars, piano, cello, drums and producing beats, music and videos.
Ren sings and plays in a band called the Big Push and is currently in Calgary, Canada recieving further treatment for the damage Lyme's has inflicted on his body.
Ren cannot eat everyday food as it causes inflammation and pain so if you watch Genesis that's why he doesn't eat the fish, chips and mushy peas...
Ren can no longer drink alcohol, he has now given up smoking and no longer does recreational drugs....
Welcome to the Ren Rabbit hole ...prepare to be immersed into the Renoverse....lol much love 🇬🇧❤️🇬🇧

That’s another thing about REN’s songs. They get people taking about issues just like you are now.
I had postpartum, it’s usually caused by chemical imbalance in your body. I didn’t understand it at the time. The doctors didn’t think that I could get pregnant so I should have been thrilled when I had my 1st son. Luckily, I found a female doctor that helped me get through it & I have 2 healthy boys that are going to be turning 28 & 29 soon.

Part of the fun of watching Hi Ren reactions is the expression when Ren starts woohooing in the beginning. It's always a bit deer in the headlights... usually followed by a realization that you're going to have to watch the whole thing. Then it changes and again... deer in headlights but OK... this is alight... followed by these deep philosophical discussions and introspections. Love it.

Hi Guys 🖐 A little background info on Ren. He has Lyme Disease - It's caused by a tick bite. It's hard to diagnose as it initially resembles other disorders like Chronic Fatigue and depression. Ren was misdiagnosed for years and medicated heavily. The bacteria caused damage to the neurons in his brain and caused psychosis. Ren spent many, many years confined to his bed in chronic pain.
After he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease his story made it to some Doctors who offered him a radical form of Stem Cell treatment for free. Ren crowd funded to get there. He's currently in Canada receiving treatment, including regular IV treatments and sessions to remap the neurons in his brain.
Through all of this - and way more, he's written some of the most life changing music I've ever heard. He's a musical genius.
Early in your reaction, you had a chat about psychosis and multiple personality (2 different things) you mentioned that it would hard to be the girlfriend of a psychotic person. Ren wrote a song called Crutch to record his state of mind during these times and the fear of losing his girlfriend if he lost his mind. The video is tragically beautiful and features Bibi (his actual girlfriend at the time). The chemistry is real my friends.
Chalk Outlines & How to be me featuring Chinchilla are live recordings that showcase amazing live duets with sad overtones.
Ren can rap - look for; The Hunger, Illest of our time, Sick Boi, Genesis, losing it & Power.
Money Game Parts 1 and 2 are amazing.
He showcases a truly different style of musical storytelling in the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny & Screetch" its a 3 part story - you must watch the trilogy though. It's worth it 😅
Ren was in a band called "The Big Push" Look out for
The Big Push "I Shot The Sherrif/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" video
See you down the Ren Rabbit Hole ❤

You can definitely be diagnosed with what is known as "late onset psychosis" at almost any part of your life. I was 41 when I was diagnosed with late onset, acute onset treatment resistant BP1, OCD, and PTSD. No one has been able to explain this to me yet, but it does and can happen. Thank you for bringing Ren to your channel, helping to get these issues more in front of the public so that people with mental illness can be better understood. We need to remove the stigma so we can just be people, instead of "sick" people. Thank you helping to do that. At first I have to say I was a little offended when I felt like you were being a little disrespectful. However, im glad you came around once you realized the message. As a 3 X suicide survivor I thank you again for helping shine some light where there hasn't been one before.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made this work of art? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

"You're not you without both sides" is exactly what Ren is trying to get across with this song! Sooo many reactors don't get that. Ren fought his "dark" side for a long time, trying to desperately cling to the light side, and he ultimately found that that battle is what really caused him grief. There's a Buddhist saying: Grasping is the root of all misery. We need to hold onto things gently, or as Ren says, learn to relax! And the dance will get easier. Thanks for a wonderful reaction.

I'm so glad I gave you two a chance just as you gave Ren a chance. I am as impressed with both of your intellect and words of wisdom as you are with Ren. Wow, definitely earned a Sub for sure. Thank you for this reaction.. it was real and captivating.

I really enjoyed this reaction, was nice to see you both enjoy it in the end, I think most people are taken aback at the very start of it, if we're all honest I bet we all thought WTF?? When it first came on but by the end of it I loved Ren, have been down the rabbit hole ever since.❤

hah...Ren slapped the goofy right out of you guys. i started out the same way when i heard that falsetto vocal in the beginning...thought it was the new "Rick Rolling." i actually STOPPED watching/listening right then. 3 months later i kept seeing it in my feed, and it showed up on reaction videos all over, so i gave it another shot...
well, i was a political science and psychology double major in college...took a TON of psych classes. all of a sudden here's a song that OUGHT to be taught in psychology classes in universities everywhere, because it forces people to engage and put words to thoughts that have snuck around the neighborhoods of the mind for ages sometimes. glad you guys also gave it a real chance. worth it, no?

Glad to see it worked on two stoners worried about how their hair looks.
There's hope for you yet. You know truth when you see/hear it. You sound intelligent, keep your "minds eye" open through life and you'll get to the end AND help others.

You know what? This reaction is similar to the video in some ways. You were like wtf when he went falsetto and did some (really skillful) pitch bending on his guitar... You were about to switch it off... I was going to turn off the Diss but like you I gave it a few extra bars. Was impressed at the maturity of the conversation you guys had. In the end, like Ren did for you, you turned me round.
Weird how shit turns out, huh?
Thanks for the reaction and changing my mind 👍

Guys. Despite the rocky start to your video (probably justified) you produced a reaction that was cogent and throughtful. My first time watching your reaction channel. My suggestion is you react to a few more REN video, such as Money Game and Illest of Our Time. Dude is amazing rapper. For a different style but still rap/folk try the Tale of Jenny and Screech and Violet.

I was dismissive the first time I heard the beginning too, so absolutely get where you were coming from, so I just sat back and waited for that moment when your expression changes and you start to fall down the rabbit hole. It seems to have happened at 6:48. You should now try the Tale of Jenny and Screech - full version available on his TH-cam page.

To be honest, I only stuck around because of Tandy's comment. I was so close to just giving up on the video, but I'm glad I stayed. Just like you were sticking with Ren 😉 He is a multi layered, genre breaking artist who is wise beyond his years and has a lot to give. I think you would really enjoy it to take a deep dive into Rens' back catalog

Wow! Impressed with your perspective, openness, curiosity, connectivity and mentalization. My wife blurted out, “ hire them.” I almost started throwing book titles out but you’ll find them or already read them. Whatever your endeavors, I’m sure you’ll find success….however you define it. I would recommend you only work where there is no ceiling or work for yourself as you are with this channel. Continue to keep your minds open as it will help you with changes in the market so you can be quick to adapt and innovate even quicker. I hope you don’t take this as preachy but instead a compliment. I see big things for the two of you. Reach out and grab them unlike most who get stuck in analysis paralysis.

I love you guys. It was such a trip watching you go from being skeptics to kinda speechless 😂 You’re both inteligent and deep in your analysis so thank you for that. Your postpartum depression discussion impressed me too. I’ve been through that and it sucks. My whole life I’ve also been battling a negative shitty side of me that held me back so when I found “Hi Ren” a year ago I finally felt less alone. He is an inspiration, a life saver.
