  • After 190000 miles, the distributor of the Jeep starts showing some significant wear, time to replace it.
    This video goes through the rather simple process, but also addresses a few important things which are not exactly obvious if you never done it before.

      @@dynoguy I would be very interested in watching how you rebuilt the old one, and what parts you installed to achieve this

    G’day Dynoguy, old vehicles always need some maintenance, sounds like you’ll have to change that exhaust manifold soon.
    Cheers
    Peter

      Hi Peter,....No matter if it's maturing cars or girls, they don't really get old, all they need is a bit more attention over time ...:-) ... the manifold has already been changed, this footage was actually taken 2 months ago. The blowing one was purchased from the US but most likely manufactured in China, really poor quality, only lasted about 7 months....cheers, Mike

    You have to make sure ur on the compression stroke not just top dead on number one i learned the hard way after watching this and doing it thatway..lol

      Well, .. if your distributor rotor points at the cyl 1 lead, you are in fact on compression stroke of cyl 1 which the is also very close to TDC of cyl 1. If you take it out in this position (and don't turn the crank while it's out), you just put it back in the same position and Bob's your uncle. Can't really see what you problem was.

    Did you ever rebuild the old Sagem Lucas distributor with a new bushing or bearing?
    If so could you provide some info on that, as I need to do the same and cannot find the info on the part required

    The first plug is connected to the second spark plug?that’s just a guess on the error ik trying trying to figure out my 1990 xj

      the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 , cylinder 1 is at the front of the engine and also marked as 1 on the cap, dizzy rotates clockwise and my plug leads are definitely in the right order

    No timing just alignment 🤙🏽

    • @dynoguy
      @dynoguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, ...there is no ignition timing as this is done by the ECU with the crank sensor, but spark timing must be correct as you want the rotor under the metal when it fires, also the phasing ring has to be correct because that tells the ECU where the cam is (the cam sensor is basically in the distributor)

    Did you remove your vacuum operated heater control valve or did it never have one?

      @dynoguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David, hope you had a pleasant Christmas. ... Mine is a 1996 UK spec and the heating system is stock. I believe there is no control on the water side at all, only on the air side, but i can be wrong as i never really looked at it.. ...Btw, i remember you sending me a rather long email earlier this year, i responded to it but never heard anything back ... didn't you get it ?
