Kind of sad how they pull out the paid dancing Uighur thing all the time as though it proves they aren't treated poorly. I have never been to any country where the ethnic minority group is paid by the government to display their culture for tourists before. Usually it's the tourist that pays the ethnic people to display their culture for them. And usually when they display their culture, they display more than just one aspect of it - not just dancing all day for tourists like that is the only thing there is to Uighur peoples culture.

During my visits, I noticed many minorities work in tourism where they make a living by performing ethnic minority dances or working in ethnic minority national parks. Parks, museums, and old towns dedicated to the culture of China's many ethnic minority groups. And no they are not being forced to.

In every single other country in the world where you can do tourism and examine other cultures and they display ethnic dances and food and rituals and whatnot, that is the native people running that business and they earn the money from tourists paying them to share their culture. In China it's the government itself paying these ethnic minorities to do these dances and act like they're happy and get to have their own culture no problems in China when the reality is they're often thrown in concentration camps for their non-Han Chinese culture. You as a tourist don't have to pay anything to see these ethnic displays, whereas in other countries you do. Do you not think that is strange? Why is it do you think that the government feels it is so important for tourists to be able to see dancing minorities for free that they use tax money to fund it?
And I don't get this ridiculous tactic of saying "have you ever been to China" - this video is made by a guy who lived in China for close to a decade I believe, and he shares my sentiment. I have a Uighur friend whose colleague went missing for 3 months before his family was told he was in the reeducation camp. The reason that he was put into the camp was simply because he registered a Turkish movie online streaming website with his gmail account. As Turkish things are prohibited in Xinjiang especially for Uighurs and gmail account has been blocked. He is a teacher in a high school and was treated like this. His wife was pregnant at that time, but he was not allowed to go home. He was released after 6 months and lost his job at school. Now he is doing his own business to make a living. It is one example of arbitrary detention/.

You can't expect the CCP to change its way, its operating in a natural state of self preservation. But the American government, its people are all complicit in feeding the CCP because of how our economy is structured, as in we value consumption over some arbitrary moral standard. Our consumption have become our moral, and China is just the one who provides the consumption at a reasonable price. Unless we move away from consumption, nothing fundamentally will change in this dynamic, but all of this is the basis of a capital system. The current capital system is fueled by this relationship, so its not going to change because Americans love capitalism more than they love morals/ethics/values.

I don't often comment on youtube, but this has to be one of the most disturbing videos I've ever seen. The juxtaposition of the seemingly carefree propagandists intermixed with the clips of the man holding up pictures of his family who were likely disappeared or taken to re-education camps makes me knot-up inside as I consider the horror and injustice. Even more disturbing is knowing that this is "happening" not in a film or a novel, but in the world we live in!
