I used to live near a steelworks town called "Scunthorpe" in Lincolnshire or old humberside it was famed for causing chaos in the early days of the Internet search engines. because of a swear word contained within. Oh and it's around 28 miles from grimsby which is midway up the east side of England on the river humber.

With Jay Foreman videos you need to watch the ads at the end. They are hilarious.

Greetings from Scotland! Place names in Britain are a mix of many cultures from all over Europe, much like the US. I am Welsh by birth (that's the small country in the West, near Ireland/Eire) and we have some totally unpronounceable place names! (Unless you're Welsh of course!) Take the famous "llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" in North Wales. YES, it's stupid and even the Welsh think so! It translates to an almost short story!! I was born in Merthyr Tydfil, I lived in Talybont-on-usk, Llangorse (yes 2 L's again) Cathedine, Bwlch (Yes it's a real place!) and then Scotland - Bonar Bridge, Laorig and Tain before going on a world tour living in a motorhome. THAT was a lot easier because I didn't have to explain how to spell where I lived any more! 😂😂

Try Milngavie said as MILL GUY or Culross said as KOOROSS. Both are in Scotland. As you correctly picked up when they said British they meant English.

If you think Frome is bad what about Scottish place names like Kirkcudbright, pronounced KERCOOBREE or even better Irish place names like Dun Laoghaire, pronounced DUN LEERIE or Port Laoise, pronounced PORT LEESH.

Interesting video, thanks! If you fancied reacting to any British comedy, I'd love to see what you make of Micky Flanigan and/or Al Murray. :)

3:16 Leominster is 'LEMSTER', Bicester is 'BISTER', Godmanchester is 'GUMSTER', Loughborough is 'LUFFBURRA', Keighley is 'KEETHLEE'. More examples - Ulgham is 'UFFAM', Happisburgh is 'HAYZBURRA', Milngavie is 'MULGUY'.

Godmanchester always confuses me. On the one hand, it's always thrown around that it's pronounced "Gumster" but every time I hear from a local they say they've never heard it been said that way.

Poughkeepsie (/pəˈkɪpsi/ pə-KIP-see, officially the City of Poughkeepsie, separate from the Town of Poughkeepsie around it) is a city in the U.S. state of New York. That's my fave. Leigh, is Lee, in Lancashire and Lie, in Kent.
