I love both and am honestly a little upset about this but I don’t know if she should be sued over it just apologize and give the credit to who it belongs to end of story.
Danny Madison Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood both wrote The Air That I Breathe. Radiohead had to give songwriting credits to both Mike and Albert, not the entire Hollies band.
Brian Matthews - ah yeah fair enough. Anyway, Get Free goes into a totally different direction in the chorus. The bit being played here is only the verse and the pre-chorus. The actual chorus doesn't match Creep at all. It's annoying because I love both Radiohead and Lana del Rey
Danny Madison I totally agree with you. The chorus doesn't match only some chord progressions. I love both artists and find it funny how the media is eating up this story.
imagine watching this live. the band head banging, wailing on their instruments, lana standing still at the mic under the lights. i’d give my right arm to see that
"The Air That I Breathe" is a ballad written by Albert Hammond & Mike Hazlewood in 1972. 1) 1972 • It is initially recorded by Albert Hammond and featured on his album "It Never Rains In Southern California", released on 1972-08-16. 2) 1973 • Philip Everly (from Everly Brothers) sings it on his album "Star Spangled Springer", released on 1973-01-31. 3) 1974 • The Hollies cover, RECORDED AFTER HEARING Phil Everly's version, appears on their 14th UK studio album "Hollies" released in 1974. 4) 1974 • The same year, James Last records an instrumental/orchestral version on his 1974 album "Violins In Love". 5) 1975 • Olivia Newton-John performs it on her 1975 album "Have You Never Been Mellow". 6) 1975 • A finnish version "Tahdo en kuin hengittää vain" (adaptation written by Pertti Reponen) is released by Petri Pettersson. 7) 1976 • Another curiosity, "Comme Si" is a french cover (lyrics adapted by Bernard Droguet) sung by duo Shuky & Aviva. 8) 1992 • The 1992 Radiohead song "Creep" uses a similar chord progression and shares some melodic content with the 1972 version of "The Air That I Breathe". Hammond & Hazlewood are given co-writing credits as well as a portion of the royalties. 9) 2017 • "Get Free" is a song by American singer and songwriter Lana Del Rey from her 5th studio album, Lust for Life (2017). Nothing is clear concerning a link with 1992 "Creep" and/or 1972 "The Air That I Breathe"... 🤔 Numerous others artists have covered this song through years. Some people even suggest the song itself is adapted/inspired from older songs making it appearing in the 1930's in the first place ?!... Who knows... All videos are on TH-cam but I can't put the links here. 🤬 I had to remove them all... Otherwise my comment is deleted immediately. 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve known thoM yorke since we met back in 1991 my mother was friends with his grand parents. in the late 80’ until 2019 we sold the house after my parents passed I grew up in the house the yorke family built in 1944. That song was written with inspiration of the song “the air you breath” not because he wanted to copy the song but for a entirely different unknown reason. Thom told me he had fallen in love with this girl and he wanted to express the feelings for her with out having to be to direct so he wrote creep hoping she would knowing it was inspired by the song “the air you breath”. It was a way to let her know that not only that he felt not good enough for her or that he thought she was special but it was a way to secretly tell her that she was the air he breaths. This statement has been expressed many ways over the years like the song and video “No more surprises” like the name and album artwork for the bends, the song “My Iron Lungs” and so on. It was a secret jester to her. Years later she had taken her life and he had fallen into a deep depression and wrote the album “ok computer” and almost broke up with Radiohead. Thom yorke has had an extremely painful and sad life the one woman he had true feelings for had ended her life she was on life support strapped down to the bed with a tub down her throat and if you watch the song knives out and the video comes out with a girl in a bed like the game operation. Give this guy a break it deeply effected him. I’m sure if Miss Lana Delray knew this she wouldn’t have copied the intro of Creep.
As a person who has written songs, sometimes you have a melody in your brain that you THINK is yours but you really just picked it up and subconsciously it stuck with you and you just don't make the connection. Could be the case here with Lana. It happens more often than you think.
This video literally explained Lana’s 40% offer was absolutely more than enough cause the vibe and tempo of the chorus in Get Free is just completely different, not to mention the part that Radiohead is suing... is actually their less original part since they got sued by The Hollies likewise. A famous TH-camr called fantano has already explained the whole situation in an objective and professional way... I hope people can check that out instead of jumping to conclusions, still opinions are opinions I guess. Let’s just wait for the court’s decision.
Fantano is just stating his own opinion on the matter. If people didn't judge everything based on a tweet by Lana or the "objective and professional" OPINION of Anthony Fantano, things would be different. But I guess since we live in the age of tweets and youtube comment sections, that's where we'll do our thorough reasearch. Anyway, read this: pitchfork.com/news/radiohead-havent-sued-lana-del-rey-publishers-say/
Ku Mingzhi not sure what you mean by part, you mean part of the song? Because Radiohead ripped off The Air That I Breathe for a few seconds in the bridge, while Lanas song steals the intro and verse from Creep. So it’s not the same part at all
If you actually listen to The Air that I Breathe, you'll notice that only the bridge and chord prog show similarities, while Get Free copies the whole melody (like omigosh it's undeniably a ripoff). I'm not trying to hate on her as a person, but you would get mad too if the WHOLE melody of one of your favorite artists was ripped.
The original tune of creep chord sequence was the hoffners the air we breathe and then Radiohead used the same chord sequence now Lana Del ray using the chord sequence now its not copyright its just using the same chord sequence for each song its brilliant its sounds amazing
missmiley78 a lot of people seem to think it’s the same chord sequence that all the fuss is over, but it’s the fact that some of the verses and the chorus are almost exactly the same as the melody to Creep. If they were suing over the chord sequence then a whole lot of artists nowadays would be sued by other artists. I don’t want to be rude, I just saw a lot of people commenting the same thing so I thought I might try to clear it up a little.
Finally, I'm crossing the threshold From the ordinary world To the reveal of my heart Undoubtedly, that will for certain Take the dead out of the sea And the darkness from the arts This is my commitment (ah) My modern manifesto (ah) I'm doing it for all of us (ah) Who never got the chance For a handful And all my birds of paradise Who never got to fly at night 'Cause they were caught up in the dens
What I also like to inform people is Lana writes all her own music, just check out the credits in her records. I don’t care whether you believe this is a rip-off or not, one song shouldn’t and doesn’t represent her entire discography if you have some sense
I'm confused how does this justify her copying the WHOLE melody of another song. No one is disputing whether she writes her own music. Does she want a medal or something?
+leelincess Lana Del Ray doesn't write her own music.....But, she tries to hide the fact that other people "help" her with her music, because being a "singer/songwriter" is such a huge part of her brand. Telling her fans that she doesn't write her own music would destroy her fanbase......
Only because the songs have a similar structure, are in the same key and have the same bpm, it does not necessarily mean it is a "rip off". Both songs have a different intention and it is really too much in my opinion to charge 100% of the publishing. Lana says "Get Free" was not inspired by "Creep" and it is probably a coincidence these songs have similar harmonic structures. I mean, there are so many songs in this world that sound similar and a are in the same key, it is not that rare. There is a limited amount of chords which are usually used in such songs, that can just happen. There are vocals of one song that fit perfectly to the instrumental of another song. Lana's suggestion of 40% of the publishing was totally alright, the producers of "Creep" seem to be pretty greedy with the 100%.
Yeah, but remember that the tempo is the same, the key is the same.. she should have changed both of them. Still, I think this isn't a plagiarism big enough to go to court. And yes, I totally agree with your opinion about the 100%. Do Radiohead care though? It could be all lawyers' fault (sorry for my English if there are some mistakes).
This! Deserves! More! Attention! This is what I've been thinking about this because there are so many songs in the world that it is very hard to actually create a tune that hasn't already been used. In this case, though, they are pretty similar.
I am a long standing fan of Radiohead and I quite like Lana, with Creep one of my all time favorite songs. Lana's version is so close to Creep that it is impossible to consider that this is coincidence, but I think that deliberate plagiarism is unlikely as they would have done a better job of hiding the theft. Perhaps accidental, but not my call to make, and imitation is a sincere form of flattery. Cudos to the poster. I thought of overlaying the tracks to see how incredibly close they are to each other and he has saved me the time. Does anyone else think the two together sounds pretty cool anyway?
Max Islas I think they had to, because The Hollies did end up suing over the use of the same chord progression. Nowadays that’s ridiculous- the amount of songs that have the same/similar chord progressions or instrumentals is a lot, but back then it wasn’t that common I don’t think. So no, Creep wasn’t stolen from The Air That I Breathe, the chord progression was influenced, but not the melody or lyrics. Whereas with Get Free, a few verses and the chorus are almost exactly the same as the Creep melody, which is why Radiohead are suing.
Suga Except it's not only chord progression. The arrangement and Melody in the verses are similar. Plus they stole a part of vocal melody. And this is why they got sued.
Radiohead had to list them as a cowriter and pay them royalties. They did the right thing and admitted to it. Lana Del Rey Denies it but offered to pay 40% to Radiohead, why would she agree to that if she didn't rip it off?
If I were a radiohead I would feel honored, I would know my status as an icon band, I would accept my influence on others and I would even cover it with her. Especially when you're so hypocritical of taking inspiration from "tha air that I breath... 👌🏻
Yes, its good to know that you infuence people, but....Do you now why people take plagiarism to court? Because somebody else is making money with your creation.
Thank you so much for making it!! After reading quite a bit comments even addressing radiohead being 'nasty', I really wanted to do the comparison myself, but don't know which software to use for transposing! Some of the comments here are so unfair! I think I would agree that the song of Lana was probably not inspired by 'Creep', since the context it brought out is quite different, but it is way much closer than 'creep' is to 'the air i breath'. Apart from the progression of the chords(Well, we all heard about four-chord songs right, plus radiohead had given the credits to the hollies), the first two bars of the melodies from the chorus are exactly the same. If the hollies are the co-songwriters of 'creep', it is totally the right thing to do that radiohead asked for the full percents of the copyright. Plus, take a second thought, this is about money really? I mean, if the 'music industry' tolerates with this, who would ever respect musician?(Ahh,English is not my native tongue, I wish I could be better at articulating!)
Maybe you haven't been catching up with the news. www.theguardian.com/music/2018/jan/10/radiohead-rebut-lana-del-rey-get-free-plagiarism-lawsuit-claims
I really wish you would play the whole song because yes the beginning is similar but that is really where is ends. Whereas Radiohead continues in the same melody and Lana Del Rey does not. Not to mention if you look at the screen you can see that the songs are in different keys.
It only takes more than 10 seconds to be considered a copyright violation... if you use more than 10 seconds of someone elses music you are stealing.. so 1 min is more than enough for them to take her to court
Having a slightly similar bridge is different than HAVING THE EXACT SAME MELODY. You could also argue that the Creep part of Get Free was Chorus I, considering that it goes on for a while.
I don't want to comment on whether these sound too similar or not for a lawsuit. But using your logic, I could steal two people's songs which fit together, change their keys, and splice them together and call it my song. The keys would be different and the whole song would have a different structure to the original two.
dont look for me how would you feel if you put a lot of hard work into something and it blew up, then died down and someone else was getting credit for the exact same thing you did without acknowledgement that you did it first? I’d feel cheated and disrespected.
I understand intellectual property. If you take time to develop something, of course, you should get credit. But art is collaborative even if you don't want it to be. Every pop song follows the same pattern, why? because we decided that pop songs sound nice due to a certain rhythm. And when it comes to this particular case it's ridiculous Radiohead was sued because they "stole" part of the song from another artist, you'd think they would just let it be. I'm sure it wasn't actually Radiohead but someone in their management team, still sucks that Lana is now painted as a theif
dont look for me yes art is collaborative, every artist is like the brain child of the artists that they listened to and the world they live in. I wouldn’t paint Lana as a thief, but I would still say from a legal standpoint it’s fair to ask for writing credits on a song in which the chord progression and melody are nearly identical. I love Radiohead. But I’ve always liked Lana del Rey’s (Ray?) aesthetic and the way she presented herself. Radiohead has nothing but a similar chord progression. I can name tons of pop songs that have similar or identical chord progressions, but they don’t have the same melody. Not to mention pop music is already known for its lack of originality and “artistic” merit (I like pop music I’m just sayin). And in this particular case, Radiohead willingly gave writing credits to the hollies (or part of them) that wrote TATIB, so I think considering they only had a similar chord progression; it’s way more fair for Radiohead to ask for writing credit as the melody and chord progression are the same.
she offered them 40 percent of the earnings to the song. From a legal standpoint, you are willing to fight for more than 40 percent of earnings to a song that has as you say "has a similar chord progression". If your in law school my friend, good luck
dont look for me no, it’s the same chord progression, the exact same: which is irrefutable, what I said was that the melody was eerily similar. Nearly identical to Radiohead’s. Meaning she could sing the song without the chords (since you feel like a smart ass) and it would still sound like creep because the melody is the fucking same. And she has sung it live without the music, and they do sound the same.
Just because they fit together DOES NOT mean it was copied. Have you not seen all the mashups on TH-cam? You can make anything fit together if it's in the same key with a similar tempo. Lanas song has a different melodie and chord sequence, and for radiohead to say it's a rip of is ridiculous, especially when you realise they got sued for there song. I'm a fan of radiohead but I think they're being petty. Edit: just to clarify I'm not denying there similar, but they're complete different songs not only as soon as the chorus hits but in terms of lyrics. Whilst I see similarities, I really don't think it's ground for 100% of royalties. I believe it's making radiohead seem selfish.
Larry Kapija why the hell are you bringing derogatory name calling into this? Regardless off if you agree with me, name calling is not right. If you think my argument and evidence is lacking show me how. If not stop being so rude and have some emotional intelligence; you really should not be using those words.
, didnt you see how each verses strong first and last note star and end at the same place? and how both songs, when getting to the chorus, go to the same higher note and still start and end at the same time?
Not as much as this and hey were sued for the chord progression and she is being sued for the chord progression and how her vocal melodies sound super similar
This is sounds so good, obvioulsy intead of fight in the court They must make a colaboration wirh the voice of Lana and Tom and the music of radiohead entire lmao hahaha
The ONLY thing changed here was the tempo. This is not a "mash-up", this is showing how fucking similar these songs are. Sure, you can mash all sorts of songs together, but this follows the EXACT chords, the EXACT phrasing, and EXTREMELY similar inflection in the vocals (which isn't shown here). Whether or not it was on purpose, this song is incredibly similar to "Creep" and I think Radiohead are free to do what they like. Is 100% a bit steep? Perhaps, but that's between Radiohead and Lana Del Rey.
Most "mash-up" (most of the easy ones) are just based on one similarity: the chord sequences. That's all that THIS video shows. In fact, the songs are in different keys (the Creep music has been pitched up I believe). So this is a "mash-up". And the fact is, a lot of mash-ups are just the chords from one song with the melody from a song that either uses the same chords, or that has notes that happen to fit with the chords taken from the other song. In this case, there are two songs with the same chord sequence. The melodies are... similar-ish. I really feel like people are hearing way more of a similarity than there actually is. They are both sort of basically melodies that hit a lot of obvious notes, and follow a similar shape (along with some very similar parts like "a weirdooo"), but they are no where near identical. Plus, I feel like it's worth thinking about what the point of suits like this really are. The songs are similar, yeah. So what? Get Free doesn't "replace" Creep. There is room for two songs that sound similar.
Ummm there’s like 3 mins of the Get Free fool. So how can they sue for 100%. Plus how can Radiohead even get anything if they don’t even own the chord progression they’re suing for?? Sure on paper they’re similar but playing the song side by side they’re not similar
poor quality audio, and it's just the first part. Why has this got so many views? If you want to compare both songs properly, listen to th-cam.com/video/lARXK8AXqoU/w-d-xo.html instead!!
Another mashup of two songs are from Laura Branigan, "Self Control" and Selina Gomez, "Love Song". Both songs have almost the same bass lines and tempo. Listen to both and you realize they both sound alike.
Of course the tempo is going to be slightly different...? The reason why it's a ripoff is because structure of the song in relation the the chord progression is virtually identical to creep ... to the point where slightly changing the tempo of lana's song and adjusting the start time makes the two songs overlap perfectly, (as demonstrated in the video).
How the fuck are people missing the vocal similarities? If you were to simplify the melodies to their key harmonic points with a schenkerian analysis, they'd be nearly identical. LDR adds a little melisma (and excess syllables), but the tonal path of the melody is the same is creep's.
I fucking hate theory; I wouldn't call myself devoted in any way. This is just shit that any musician with an ear can tell. The theory just allows one to put that intuitive understanding to technical terms.
Considering that this is only 37 seconds out of a almost 6 full minutes. She offered them 40% of the song for only 37 seconds ! Damn fools. Shoulda settled it out of the court tastefully like the Hollies. They seem petty as fuck for not striking a deal. Lanas fan base will probably make them regret this decision
my sound doesn't work on my computer so i listened to the song through my ipod, separately. when its put together, I clearly hear the similarities and am surprised her and her team didn't notice it. I can definitely say it's valid but Lana is a very talented song writer who has integrity and respect for other talented musicians. Radiohead had a lawsuit against them with the song but they settled it privately and were put in the credits. Being the songs are very different sounding other then the background cords (which i think was an accident) In that case scenario, the should've tried harder to keep this out of the courts. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Plus, I'm a big Lana fan but i wont defend her blindlessly... however, Lana fans are really assholes and will harass the band if taken off the album.
Not gonna lie this sounds amazing with Lana’s soft voice and the hard rock beat lmao
Joey just like some songs on ultraviolence
hard rock? LMAO
gulden yeah you know Radiohead is totally metal lol
* Satanic black metal
Hello22uuu radiohead isn't bland, but their first album is
Lana del Reydiohead
this is so creative

Omg!
Hahahqhqhqhqhqh
this sounds so good.......
Pedro Cajeira they should be collaborating instead. What a wasted potential
lukman mustafa OH MY GOD YES. they should be collaborating instead of settling a lawsuit in court. This sounds freaking amazing.
Collaborating with what? Lana is commiting a burglary. Must Radiohead help her with her robbery? She must pay royalties and attach Radiohead in credits. This is what everybody does! She don´t want to pay.
Cecilia Videla you do know creep was completely ripped off from the hollies right lol
Not totally. Creep has the same 8 first beats that The Air that I Breath, whose real author is Albert Hammond, not The Hollies. When Albert Hammond heard Creep talked to Radiohead and them agree to pay rights and to add Hammond to the credits of the song. They do it since 1994 without complain. All Radiohead music is much better than Creep but I´m asking to myself if Hammond is claiming Lana for his rights right now too.
Certainly, the rule is 'you copy, you must pay'. Everybody does it, Lana doesn't want. She things she must not obey the rules. She prefers to steal and does not pay, lol.
This just makes me want a noise rock Lana Del Rey album now
deadbird1229 it’s already out. Ultraviolence (2014)
I've listened to Ultraviolence many times--I saw her in concert when she was touring that album in 2014. It's a rock album, but not really noise rock in the true sense
She should drop an album like this
deadbird1229 Lana Del Rey - True Love On the Side
You don't know what noise rock is do you
Everyone in the comments is fanboying/fangirling lana or Radiohead but I just want a full version of this it’s fire
fr, this person was onto something
lmao me too
Ikr radiohead should just accept the 40% and them they release this new version 50/50 hahah
shit it's nice! You're right ^^
I could listen to a full version too ^^
Steven Le how dare you say that most of fans of radiohead are men and Lana's female, i mean, that's true, but it is sexist to point that out!
copyright aside, this unofficial mashup/remix slaps 👀
a full version would sound so good tbh
there's a really good full version at th-cam.com/video/lARXK8AXqoU/w-d-xo.html

Genius! 🤣👏🏼
Once this lawsuit nonsense dies down can we pleeeeeeeeeeaaseeee get a full version of this because it's awesome
jenjens193 there is no lawsuit, Lana lied. Radio head is just requesting writing credit
She didnt lie at all, some people that have "Creep" rights are suing her. But of course the band itself just want writing credit.
Hi jenjens, there's a great full version at th-cam.com/video/lARXK8AXqoU/w-d-xo.html
thanks bob!
She never said they lawsuited her, you're lying here...
back in the day fans didn't rant about songs sounding alike, they made mashups like this and made a new more beautiful sound!
Wow, it is crazy how easily it fits in the radiohead instrumental.
PurelyAfrican U have no clue of what cover means. 😂
If by "cover", you mean "rip-off".
Well, maybe beacuse she probably stole radiohed's song, maybe

Anyone remember when Radiohead had problems with The Hollies...deal with it people do it all the time JUST ENJOY THE ART OF MUSIC
I love both and am honestly a little upset about this but I don’t know if she should be sued over it just apologize and give the credit to who it belongs to end of story.
And The Hollies weren't even the original singers/writers of the air that I breathe

Numerous others artists have covered this song through years.
Some people even suggest the song itself is adapted/inspired from older songs making it appearing in the 1930's in the first place ?!... Who knows...
All videos are on TH-cam but I can't put the links here. 🤬 I had to remove them all... Otherwise my comment is deleted immediately. 🤷🏻♂️

Maybe they can play it together :-D
Harvie what about NO
Yes i would love that two of my favorite artist together
As a person who has written songs, sometimes you have a melody in your brain that you THINK is yours but you really just picked it up and subconsciously it stuck with you and you just don't make the connection. Could be the case here with Lana. It happens more often than you think.
It fits in better than any puzzle!!
Diego Fuenzalida that’s the problem, it’s copyright
Am I the only person who actually thinks this version needs to be released ASAP!! Gorgeous
I'm not trying to hate on her as a person, but you would get mad too if the WHOLE melody of one of your favorite artists was ripped.
lissie Lana is skinnier
Ku Mingzhi Baard said everything that was needed to be known .
THIS IS SO GOOD BC LANAS VOICE IS LIKE A EVEN MORE HAUNTING THOM YORKE VOICE
Finally, I'm crossing the threshold
From the ordinary world
To the reveal of my heart
Undoubtedly, that will for certain
Take the dead out of the sea
And the darkness from the arts
This is my commitment (ah)
My modern manifesto (ah)
I'm doing it for all of us (ah)
Who never got the chance
For a handful
And all my birds of paradise
Who never got to fly at night
'Cause they were caught up in the dens
What I also like to inform people is Lana writes all her own music, just check out the credits in her records. I don’t care whether you believe this is a rip-off or not, one song shouldn’t and doesn’t represent her entire discography if you have some sense
Ku Mingzhi so if I steal the entire core melody of hey Jude it fine if I do it myself without help?
I'm confused how does this justify her copying the WHOLE melody of another song. No one is disputing whether she writes her own music. Does she want a medal or something?
She actually doesn't......
+leelincess Lana Del Ray doesn't write her own music.....But, she tries to hide the fact that other people "help" her with her music, because being a "singer/songwriter" is such a huge part of her brand. Telling her fans that she doesn't write her own music would destroy her fanbase......
Ku Mingzhi Just another delusional Lana del rey fan trying to come up with some dumb excuse for her plagiarism
THIS SOUNDS AMAZING OMG
PLEASE FULL VERSION OML PLEASE
just found a brilliant full version at th-cam.com/video/lARXK8AXqoU/w-d-xo.html
dan ziegler thank you so much and yay
welcome!
okay this should become a thing, this sounds so fucking good
Only because the songs have a similar structure, are in the same key and have the same bpm, it does not necessarily mean it is a "rip off".
What a creative name so... the hollies shouldn't have sued radiohead for having the same chords progression
Fracmik I dunno man ... creep is a really well known song ... she should have noticed about the similarities
Producer: Wait .2 seconds before Thom's vocals, perfect!
This! Deserves! More! Attention! This is what I've been thinking about this because there are so many songs in the world that it is very hard to actually create a tune that hasn't already been used. In this case, though, they are pretty similar.
Hahahha. Love it. Sounds even better than Radiohead/Lana del Rey versions
Se parece mucho más que "The air that I breathe" ,de the Hollies.
Finally someone did something with it!!!!!! it's sooo awesome, you killed it
I am a long standing fan of Radiohead and I quite like Lana, with Creep one of my all time favorite songs.
THIS IS MY COMMITMEEENT MY MODEEERN MANIFESTOOO damn this sounds really good
this sounds soooo goooooddd. lana would sound so much more interesting with a guitar and bass instrumental
That moment when you don't give a fuck about the drama and love both songs and...THIS SOUNDS LIKE HEAVEN
Sounds more creepy than creep
THATS THE PROOF! thx for your work! radiohead SLAYS at that court.
Expect Radiohead stole Creep from The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies
Rafael Cena similar chord progression. You can’t own a chord progression. Lana copied the chords and melody of this song.
Didn't they pay The Hollies though?
Max Islas I think they had to, because The Hollies did end up suing over the use of the same chord progression. Nowadays that’s ridiculous- the amount of songs that have the same/similar chord progressions or instrumentals is a lot, but back then it wasn’t that common I don’t think.
So no, Creep wasn’t stolen from The Air That I Breathe, the chord progression was influenced, but not the melody or lyrics.
Whereas with Get Free, a few verses and the chorus are almost exactly the same as the Creep melody, which is why Radiohead are suing.
Aline-Christophe the original 1965.
Suga
Except it's not only chord progression.
The arrangement and Melody in the verses are similar.
Plus they stole a part of vocal melody.
And this is why they got sued.
Thank you for this ❤
You missed the opportunity to put “Lana Del Radiohead “
It's gonna reach the TOP 40.
... as if Radio head had invented a four chord progression.
They did however invent the melody that Lana Del Rey ripped off. :)
lissie lol creep is a plagio as well
The problem is not the harmonic progression, the problem is the melody!!!
It’s the melody, not the chord progression that Radiohead was/is suing over.
lissie
Radiohead themselves ripped of chords and part of the melody from the Hollies for creep.
So they are not better in that situation.
GOD THIS IS SO GOOD PLZ GIVE ME A FULL VERSION
Lana del radiohead
Get creep
MIGUEL RECINOS like ☺
I like that fusion
Ooh can u do one that is the lyrics to “Creep” but the background to “Get Free?”
UMMMM I GONNA NEED A FULL VERSION
There is no lawsuit. Radiohead just want a writing credit
Soulkks Soulkks no radiohead did not why conclude immediately if you did not hear from radiohead's statement
lol
Writing credit? The words are nothing alike...
They want credit for the same song they copied from the Hollies????? Makes sense
Shello the Bunny the lyrics are enunciated the same exact way? It's basically the same song?
it sounds even better both mashed up
Radiohead RIPPED OFF "The Air That I Breathe" by the Hollies in the first place! How dare they sue Lana for a song THEY THEMSELVES stole.
Because they didn't steal it, you can look up that if you research for a couple of minutes
PREACH.
even if radiohead did rip off the hollies, that doesn't change the fact that lana did as well.
Radiohead had to list them as a cowriter and pay them royalties. They did the right thing and admitted to it. Lana Del Rey Denies it but offered to pay 40% to Radiohead, why would she agree to that if she didn't rip it off?
ITS THE CIRCLE OF LIFE
I wish this giant lawsuit didn’t exist, and we could still have stuff like this (perfect mashups).
Deffo need a full version to this
If I were a radiohead I would feel honored, I would know my status as an icon band, I would accept my influence on others and I would even cover it with her. Especially when you're so hypocritical of taking inspiration from "tha air that I breath... 👌🏻
Yes, its good to know that you infuence people, but....Do you now why people take plagiarism to court? Because somebody else is making money with your creation.
Do you even know that radiohead pays for "that air that i breath" chords taken, and they named the singers of The hollies as coauthors of "creep"?
I think Radiohead would rather have the money.
This is pure gold
I mean, if the 'music industry' tolerates with this, who would ever respect musician?(Ahh,English is not my native tongue, I wish I could be better at articulating!)
exactly
Except they didn't. Read the news.
They have been so reasonable!!I don't understand her behaviour, hopefully it was just misunderstanding.
they literally want 100% of a song they didn’t have any part of making so no they’re wrong ,
Maybe you haven't been catching up with the news. www.theguardian.com/music/2018/jan/10/radiohead-rebut-lana-del-rey-get-free-plagiarism-lawsuit-claims
Radiohead debería invitarla a cantar en vivo y tocar este mix, y que reine el amor entre ellos dos!
A different key means nothing lol
Eric Jones kinda like the Hollies did with them? oh wait that was bc the whole song was ripped off.
Now i wish they made this shit 50/50 and made a show together hahahaha. This sounds very cool
Lmao she was obviously inspired by the song but it wasnt copied.
Florides BB Go ahead then
Inspiration? The harmony and melodic line it's almost the same. If maybe she had done somthing new, any melodic change, but it's the same thing!!!
Best mashup ever!
can art just be art it's clearly not a carbon copy if it eve n is a copy
dont look for me how would you feel if you put a lot of hard work into something and it blew up, then died down and someone else was getting credit for the exact same thing you did without acknowledgement that you did it first?
GET FREE and CREEP are IDENTICAL while CREEP and THE AIR THAT I BREATHE are only SIMILAR
If not stop being so rude and have some emotional intelligence; you really should not be using those words.
not tryna beef, but the chord progression and sequencing are pretty much the exact same.
Exactly.. there so many mashup from other songs... thats doesn mean a copy
, didnt you see how each verses strong first and last note star and end at the same place? and how both songs, when getting to the chorus, go to the same higher note and still start and end at the same time?
Uhh... the vocal melody is pretty much exactly the same.
this is beautiful
Best Lana Del Ray song
Worst Radiohead song
the air that i breath ... the hollies ...
Man, i see all those poeple denying the facts that the vocal melody is 100% similar it's getting so fucking frustrating
Who cares, all new music (esp pop) sounds the same anyways and Radiohead copied The Hollies as well..
U IN MY HOUSE Radiohead did NOT COPY CREEP. They wrote it. Gotta know your music. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creep_(Radiohead_song)
Because Lana fans are pretentious 13 year old girls.
Listen, Creep is also a copy...
If Tom Petty can get author rights on Sam Smith and the Stones on Bittersweet, Radiohead is a shoo in for author rights on this.
This is so good I want it to be a song
The ONLY thing changed here was the tempo. This is not a "mash-up", this is showing how fucking similar these songs are. Sure, you can mash all sorts of songs together, but this follows the EXACT chords, the EXACT phrasing, and EXTREMELY similar inflection in the vocals (which isn't shown here).
Whether or not it was on purpose, this song is incredibly similar to "Creep" and I think Radiohead are free to do what they like. Is 100% a bit steep? Perhaps, but that's between Radiohead and Lana Del Rey.
Phillip Porter - it's a bit cheeky though considering Radiohead got sued for copying Creep from an earlier song
I wouldnt like to comment but you said nothing with a lot of words
Ummm there’s like 3 mins of the Get Free fool. So how can they sue for 100%. Plus how can Radiohead even get anything if they don’t even own the chord progression they’re suing for?? Sure on paper they’re similar but playing the song side by side they’re not similar
Fernsndo94 no one owns any chord progression. You legally can’t own a chord progression lmao
Ok I have to say they should just make a mash of both songs this sounds awesome lol
No mamen, no se parecen xD
really good mashup, want this full length !!!!
poor quality audio, and it's just the first part.
Am I the only one that didn’t think it matched (except the chorus). The lyrics started earlier than the beat did.
If I start singing Mary Had A Little Lamb a few seconds later than the instrumental than normal, it is still Mary Had a Little Lamb.
david payne lana already admitted her song was inspired by radiohead's creep
ΔΞGIS when? Show me some receipts please.
I do not know what to say except; it sounds great.
How the fuck are people missing the vocal similarities? If you were to simplify the melodies to their key harmonic points with a schenkerian analysis, they'd be nearly identical. LDR adds a little melisma (and excess syllables), but the tonal path of the melody is the same is creep's.
Thank you for blessing us with your devotion to theory
I fucking hate theory; I wouldn't call myself devoted in any way.
This is just shit that any musician with an ear can tell. The theory just allows one to put that intuitive understanding to technical terms.
LentilsOverkill ok overkill
The mashup sounds beautiful
Considering that this is only 37 seconds out of a almost 6 full minutes. She offered them 40% of the song for only 37 seconds ! Damn fools. Shoulda settled it out of the court tastefully like the Hollies. They seem petty as fuck for not striking a deal. Lanas fan base will probably make them regret this decision
addictedangel by that logic I can sample an entire song with no credit and change the structure?
my sound doesn't work on my computer so i listened to the song through my ipod, separately. when its put together, I clearly hear the similarities and am surprised her and her team didn't notice it.
Just wanted to say, read this: pitchfork.com/news/radiohead-havent-sued-lana-del-rey-publishers-say/
what!? really?
thanks a lot for resource! this is good news if its true. :)
"Lanas fan base will probably make them regret this decision" Riiiiight I'm sure Radiohead are trembling in fear right now -.-
OMG!! Sounds amazing
totally radio win
This is awesome. DO THE WHOLE SONG!!!!!
