Hi Seve - I always look forward to your videos! Today was my first day at my new job! Pre-Minimalist Tara would have gone out and bought so many "pretty" things for my new office..... NEW Tara will now pull a few things from my own home and not buy a single thing (because I don't need anything). This is big for me! I don't NEED to fill my new office with a bunch of things. I have in mind to bring one picture, one plant, and one little saying block for the office - that's it! It feels so good and freeing! Thanks for all that you continue to teach us!!
The more you settle into your own form of minimalism the more you are able to see what is cluttering your own life. Sometimes this can be a surprise because you have become so accustomed to the way you have always lived you don’t see mental and physical clutter for some time. Good video ❤

I'm finding I want much less but I am having a hard time right now getting rid of the excess. I've watched a few documentaries recently and feel incredibly guilty getting rid of it, because the "sustainable" ways seem to be far fetched/fake. I am being extra mindful of what I bring into my life now. I just don't want the excess any more. I have just cleared out my wardrobe of any items I know I won't use over the winter, I have put them away into an empty suitcase, I used them all this year so am happy to "shop" that selection again. I'm thinking it'll feel more exciting to get them back out when it warms up again! 😂 I'm also committed to read all the books I currently have on my bookcases and to not buy ANY books next year. If I run out, to the library it is! I'd like to be a minimalist for my own mental health and peace of mind. I'd like to be able to choose when to work and not be slaving away for lifestyle/appearances.
I think it is better to start minimalism now. Because it is no longer hyped and restricted by people that misunderstood what it is. Minimalism is about making your life fit you. Not about how many items you have or never to buy or add anything to your life again.
Well, you know pioneers are those who have to deal with all the mistakes we don't know anything about yet, lol. So, it's comfier to be secondary when we can learn from the mistakes of those who went on the journey before us.

Thank you for this video. I’m relatively new to minimalism and all the things you said were really helpful. Especially the parts of knowing why you’re in this situation in the 1st place and not comparing yourself to other minimalist. I think it’s important for minimalism to be individualistic but that’s not really the message you get when watching other videos about minimalism. It really helped to see the bookcase with all the books and plants everywhere in your own home. That the idea of being a “perfect” minimalist if stressful in itself. I get really mad at myself when I fail at it. You gave me permission to fail and to extend grace to myself. I can tell myself that it is a process, it’s different for everyone, and that is OKAY that it’s taking me longer than I want it too. It’s okay that it’s been a year and I’m still not done decluttering. I will get there! Thanks again for your video!
I'm really happy you were able to understand this. It's an important part of creating an actually healthy life. Anyone can become a minimalist but not everyone can do it while enjoying it :) Thanks for watching! 😊

Thanks, Seve…you inspire me to write blog posts that are expansions on something you mention in your commentaries. That’s why I watch your videos! Yes, it’s challenging to interact in a world where love and caring is correlated with stuff. I’ve found that creating a clear “mission plan” about what I will do and not do, and what I will accept into my space and life, has worked very well. It’s about creating boundaries around your personal space (physical and mental) and firmly enforcing them. Consistency is key, especially at first, for YOU, not them. You must be solid in what you will and will not accept and be firm when enforcing these boundaries. You teach people how to treat you through what you will and will not accept…what you will and will not give. I don’t like to shop, so I do it to a minimal degree. When I must purchase a gift for someone, first of all, I ask what they need. If they won’t commit to anything, I won’t take on that burden anymore. It’s not right for a person to expect you to shop for that perfect gift to satisfy their sense of what caring looks like. That was my first obstacle to work through. Love doesn’t equal what I spend on your gift - if you don’t feel it from me each day a gift won’t mean anything. Consequently, I focus on purchasing experiences, not things. And I let go of expectations and past or traditional obligations to behave in a certain way. Can you guess that I’m no longer a people pleaser, at least in that regard? 😊
Thank you brother for a great video. You speak in a calm, authentic manner. I am glad that you emphasize joy and kindness in our quest to simplify our lives. All the best!
I’m just starting my journey, so I really appreciated this video! You really help me understand and have made me think of my why. The part where you said it’s not about aesthetic, but lifestyle… That was something I needed to hear!!
Having kids means a lot of stuff...I feel like since having my son over two years ago and now my daughter, I am constantly decluttering, reorganizing, pulling new things out, old in storage because they grow so quickly! I aim for a minimal-ish lifestyle, but as I do not know whether I am done having kids and your body changes so much during and after pregnancy, I have boxes of clothing for each phase of my body changing, and boxes for each size for the kids. I don't see myself getting rid of all of that, because it goes against the sustainibility idea, too...long story short, I think minimalism works less well in the years that your kids are small.
Exactly! Havinga toddler and a baby and facing their endless demands while your body keeps shifting sizes forces a mother to deal with so much stuff that you would actually want to. Besides, the extended sleep deprivation, the mummy brain, the lack of two available hands and arms to do whatever you need to adds further frustration. I’m there as well and I agree 100%!
I felt like that too. But in hindsight I also realized that apart from clothes and other necessary baby stuff, there was a whole lot of other stuff I could have decluttered that was unrelated to the kids. So may be just work on other things? ❤😊

Same story here. A ray of hope: I recently heard that when you declutter your own things only, your family members will notice over time the changes happening within you, that you become happier, more calm and apparently they will follow. This will take some time but it can happen. Good luck😊
Hei! Minulla on paljon huonekasveja.
I think, that most people who try to be a minimalist misunderstand the basic. Come down to who we really are. Get away from doing to the point of being. Consuming is a way to bring us away from this point. And I think this is Minimalismus to finding the essence of life.
Great rules there! However, I feel there should be consideration of sustainability aspect. Getting new one and discarding old might not be good for the environment.
So true, one positive way of getting rid of things is by donating to a charity shop. The charities gain from the sale and then get to run beneficial programs, and buyers are delighted with buying something at a reduced price.
As much as I try I cannot get family on board to stop with the gift thing.. it’s honestly become a battle .. I set a boundary asking them to please donate to an animal shelter but NOOOO it’s still gifts .. i don’t want to manage in my home don’t like and feel bad it’s just me donating it … I love a simple life less for me is less stress less anxiety and I feel free … stuff just stuff is a very heavy prince too Pay for my sanity .. love your videos very inspiring .. Thankyou :)
I'm simplifying my life because it could all be taken away from me in a Hurricane (i live in Florida). Less to worry about. I'd like to be an extreme minimalist. I'm down to 17 shirts, 2 pants, 5 shorts, 7 work uniforms, one swimsuit. My apartment is a very small one bedroom. 14:43
I do not want to become a minimalist. I want to get rid of mental fussiness, to reclaim some mental space, which became extremely scarce onceI had a baby and it’s even worse now that we are expecting a second one (last 5 weeks) and we do not know yet if we have to move in a few months. On the one hand, I’m badge cooking and hoarding the pantry so that I do not need to go get groceries as often in the next couple of months. On the other hand, I’m desperately trying to get rid of stuff or at least put it away until I can figure out what I want to do with it. I do not know which and when I will (if ever) recover my previous weight, so I’m keeping my clothes in 3 sizes and for all four seasons until I know for sure which will no longer be mine. And it’s a lot of clothes, something I had already left behind. On the contrary, I barely have shoes now because my feet grew and most of them were hurting me, so I let them all go recently. And then there’s toys and babies clothes. We were fortunate to be given tons of second handed items, but it’s hard to keep track of all the inventory, specifically those things that is for when they are older. Then there’s the issue if things that do bring value and joy to me, but are extremely fragile to be around toddlers…. so I had to store them until they are reasoning and careful humans. I struggle to shrink even further my inventory in order to make room and mental space for the coming baby and her stuff. I feel lost and pushed aside when I do not want more of my stuff to go away and at the same time I (and the whole family) need to adjust to fit a new member and all her required equipment. It’s exhausting and overwhelming!
Ok I am a minimalist but I love putting outfits together and not even going out in them- i keep circulating pieces out but im starting to walk out from stores with nothing. As I shop I find one thing then hold onto it throughout the time I’m there… then I talk myself out of it
Great! I do that too and practice this with my daughter as well. On top of what you said I would also add that when eventually realizing that I really dont need all the pretty things I find in the shop, I get really happy😊
My biggest issue is something you know you want, take a video game for example. You know you want to play it at some point, but you don't have the time to play it at the moment. You also know that because its Japanese for example, it will go out of print relatively fast. Thus if you do not buy it now, you'll likely be paying 3x the price when you're ready to play the game. It brings value to your life as a game is an experience. Its not the best use of your money, but knowing its something you want to experience, its also not smart to wait till its out of print and you're spending even more than the MRSP for said experience. This is the mental gymnastics I go through with the idea of minimalism. Maybe I am just over thinking it too much and its smarter to just spend 3x the price when you're ready to experience it as opposed to buying it right away and have it sit there for a year or more. Use the money for something different, like invest to build more money, then you'll be able to afford the 3x price later on type deal.
Please help me how to declutter clothes of kids i have 3 kids . Its really hard because i also want to save clothes of big kids for younger ones . I already declutterd 3 times & gave away 5,6 bags but still have lot😢 I just recently started to become minimilist . I just declutter the whole kitchen . It feel like throwing away weight from shoulders that i didnt knew im carrying
I love Project 333, been doing it for a year now and will change to my fall capsule in two weeks. It’s easier to dress in the morning, I get more compliments, I feel more comfortable and fashionable and have greater appreciation for my clothes and my clean closet! Packing for my vacation was easier too. Three cheers for Courtney Carver!
I’ve seen minimalist content creators throw coat hangers away just to buy matching wooden ones. That’s wasteful. Use what you’ve got. I am replacing my plastic clothes pegs with wooden ones. Only when the plastic ones break. I’ve bought the wooden ones 7 years ago . I’ve got 3plastic pegs still in use.
Yeah.... but if i actually clean up and declutter then i have no excuse for NOT doing the things i need to do, and also it will show up the fact that even if im tidy and organised and fit, i still wont get to have the life i want (hasnt worked in the past), so why bother? I'M still here and THATS the problem in my life
I think I understand you, I feel like that a lot. My own feelings come from being overwhelmed, and feeling a bit stuck in the monotony of life. I've been trying to find things that are just for me recently. Time where I'm not doing the "jobs" around the house, or fitting around anyone else's schedule. Examples in my life are going for a dip in the sea, reading a book or watching a movie or TV show that I have chosen right in the middle of the day (when I "should" be vacuuming or something of the like!) Sometimes I even take a walk by myself, even if I should really double up and take the dogs with me. It's just being able to let go of the obligation of doing so is freeing sometimes. I hope you are able to find some simple joys to fit into your life. Take care
Some people get visual overwhelm (from seeing everything everywhere) and need much fewer items and the calm (white/empty) aesthetic to feel calmer on the inside. Some want a Pinterest/show home all the time, whereas others have more tolerance for the "lived in" look. ... I always prioritise function over aesthetic.
Your priorities will change for sure and it will probably be more difficult. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't start a family if that's something you want to do. After all minimalism is not just about living with as few stuff as possible, it's about surrounding yourself with things that are truly valuable to you
I was quite intentional when I had my baby (14 years ago) I kept only the sizes in use and the next size up handy, every other clothing item was put away in a labelled container. They go through clothes so quickly and we had a lot of hand-me-downs! With toys I'd pare them back and keep some in a cupboard and a selection out to play with, rotating them around regularly. This gave me an idea of what sort of things my daughter enjoyed. As she got older this did get harder, but we used a kind of container method to keep it in check. If everything didn't fit (in a way she could make it fit by herself) then we needed to let go of items. Sometimes like when she was younger we'd put items away and would rotate them, prioritising a doll collection one month, her kitchen/cafe selection another and so one. It was never as minimal as I would like, but always able to keep on top of. That season has changed now, toys have been replaced with make- up, everything else is on her phone! She's almost minimalist overnight! 😂
There's actually a home tour video already on my channel :) It's filmed by my partner 3+ years ago but still we live in the same house and haven't changed too much since then 😊

Kiitos paljon, Johanna!
"The box of judgement" 😄.
I love it ! 😊👍
Very valuable advice. And well organized. Thank you!
Hi! Love your videos. They are full of wisdom. This minimalist room looked like a luxurious room to me 😊
Great insights ✨️
And yes, it is a journey, internal and external, as you said 🙏
Define your WHY, and Experiences over Consumables, are also important.
Regards from Helsinki 🇫🇮
It truly is, and thank you! 😊🌿
Another great video & very informative! Thanks, Tonya❤
Thanks for watching! 😊
I liked the soft relaxing music in the background, made listing so chill
Glad you liked it! 😊
Hi save, i am from indonesian, very2 like your video, before iam thingking only mayority women like minimalis, i am shocking men also do that.. always support n waiting your next video.. tq for shariing..
I was a minimalist and then I met a woman. And ee got some stuff, then we had kids and we got LOTS of stuff.
Same story here. A ray of hope: I recently heard that when you declutter your own things only, your family members will notice over time the changes happening within you, that you become happier, more calm and apparently they will follow. This will take some time but it can happen. Good luck😊
Thank you, you helping me so much step-by-step to declutter my home.🙏
That's great, happy to help! Hope it's going well :)
Love how you explain everything, it’s helping me understand 🙏
I am happy to hear that! 😊
Hei! Minulla on paljon huonekasveja.
I think, that most people who try to be a minimalist misunderstand the basic. Come down to who we really are. Get away from doing to the point of being. Consuming is a way to bring us away from this point. And I think this is Minimalismus to finding the essence of life.
thanks for such an inspired share....love you from Vietnam
Great rules there! However, I feel there should be consideration of sustainability aspect. Getting new one and discarding old might not be good for the environment.
So true, one positive way of getting rid of things is by donating to a charity shop. The charities gain from the sale and then get to run beneficial programs, and buyers are delighted with buying something at a reduced price.
Love your content, keep going & keep creating! Its inspired me everyday to shed a little more, tiny bit by tiny bit :)
Thank you! Will do! 🌿😊
Thankyou :)
I love your altruistic way of seeing things ❤️❤️
Well spoken. Love your vids.
Thank you so much! 😇
Thanks so much for such an informative video Seve - so many great tips I’ll be sure to watch this one a few times 😊
Thanks for the support, Cathy! 🌻
I would be happy if you made a film just about mental decluttering :)
I actually made one a few months ago :) Here you go: th-cam.com/video/-gQ9AM_s4Q0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QAlWf4JYyvygEpz4
Very mindful video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching :)
Thank you for your channel
Lovely helpful video...❤❤❤
Thanks 😊
Excellent video Seve!
Many thanks! 🌿
Love th practical aspect nd hw u r putting everything in a very simple manner 💕
Thank you! 😇
Thank you ♡
Thanks for watching! 😊
Perfectionism sucks the joy out of every lifestyle!
So true!
How can I possibly do this with kids and 2 home businesses?
I have a minimalist home with a maximalist garden 😂
This is me! 😂 I need ALL the plants!
I already declutterd 3 times & gave away 5,6 bags but still have lot😢
I just recently started to become minimilist . I just declutter the whole kitchen . It feel like throwing away weight from shoulders that i didnt knew im carrying
I just did a purge and I do feel better
Awesome video Seve, even me as a non-minimalist. Probably going to start Project 333 soon!
Yesss go for it! And thank you! 🌿
Yeah I think that really is just waste 😄
Or all the containers they go out and buy before even properly decluttering!
I have an extra loveseat for my dog and cats to sleep on
I'm on 4,5
👏👏
Wear "yesterday's shirt"!
Level two or three.
family + 2 Kids=End of privat frugalismus from young years-)
I want to be a minnalist....plus two
Yeah.... but if i actually clean up and declutter then i have no excuse for NOT doing the things i need to do, and also it will show up the fact that even if im tidy and organised and fit, i still wont get to have the life i want (hasnt worked in the past), so why bother? I'M still here and THATS the problem in my life
I'd make a list of the things I want, then break each one down into "baby steps" to make progress towards them. I hope that helps 😊
Take care
Very good video. Support comment😊
Thank you very much! 😊
😊
I never understood the 'aesthetic'
Some people get visual overwhelm (from seeing everything everywhere) and need much fewer items and the calm (white/empty) aesthetic to feel calmer on the inside.
Some want a Pinterest/show home all the time, whereas others have more tolerance for the "lived in" look.
... I always prioritise function over aesthetic.
🙏
I just watched the movie “Limitless “. I see no connection between minimalism and the movie.
👍

No 97,6% or you wont achieve the wanted benefits! :p
What if you have kids, history
Your priorities will change for sure and it will probably be more difficult. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't start a family if that's something you want to do. After all minimalism is not just about living with as few stuff as possible, it's about surrounding yourself with things that are truly valuable to you
@@SunnyKindJourney and the people you live with, partner, multiple children, pets.

Your house looks too cluttered for minimalist (level 5-6) imho
How would you say it should look like for a level 5?
Bro, im waiting for your everything you own video!/home tour❤ @SunnyKindJourney
There's actually a home tour video already on my channel :) It's filmed by my partner 3+ years ago but still we live in the same house and haven't changed too much since then 😊
@@SunnyKindJourney oh didnt realise will check that out bro!
