  • The tv series Billions had a scene with Chuck Rhoades receiving EMDR therapy for his "traumatic" memory involving Axe & Wendy. I'm Dante, a registered psychologist and in this video I breakdown the scene, discuss the errors and what is gotten right from this scene as well as discuss EMDR therapy & bilateral stimulation/trauma therapy in general.
I'm Dante, a registered psychologist from Australia. This video is educational and not designed to be a substitute for medical intervention.

Thank you very much, I saw the scene a long time ago, and ever since I took notes, and this led me to try the treatment so I wanted to find the scene again and now it makes a lot more sense and your explanation is so valuable. Thank you so much!🙏

Therapist here, just took the EMDRIA training a few weeks ago and did my first processing session with a client yesterday! It was like magic. Your video was super helpful, obviously (thankfully) my session didn't look anything like in the clip you show, but it is nice to have the "dos" and "don'ts" I learned in training reinforced. Thank you!

I tried googling you for about 4 minutes and couldn't find out so now I'm asking; How old are you? You look so young, someone told me 30 is too early to have become a psychologist.

Hello! I'm 26, appreciate the youthful compliment! I've worked with many great psychologists from as young as 23 to those in their 50's. What is shown in the research into "what makes effective psychotherapy?" is that interestingly; age and experience are both not correlated with therapy outcomes, but what does matter is the degree to which a strong working relationship and sense of trust can be built. Personally, from seeing how other psychologists work I would also say - the degree to which the psych has a desire for self-improvement related to their work is something to take notice of.
I think whoever told you the 30 rule might be a bit off the mark :)
