Love that you called that rough. Perspective is very much relative.

Duke. We weren’t all that seasoned by the third episode. That being said even when seas are not running very high, they can bounce back off shore or mix with the last days swell. I suspect that is what gave us the “perspective” that we had here. We didn’t see anyone else out on the water that day either. Usually a sign that things are a bit rough.

Hi Guys, Just discovered your videos. Really like them! Refreshing! The first boat I learned to sail in the1980s 2as a Cape Dory Typhoon in Muskegon Lake. The second was a Westerly Centaur that my good friends dad had .
Over the years a string of second hand boats. Catalina 25,Catalina 30 . I’m kind of on the ancient side now. But I’m inspired to undertake some new adventures. Still thinking about a half loop down the Intracoastal to Florida. Hope you both are doing well and continue your adventures! Tom. ( I binge watched all your videos 😊)

Waves never look as big on camera as they actually are. Nice dinghy, is it a Walker Bay?

Right?! it’s so hard to actually show how bigs the waves are! And thank you, it is a Shrimp 8!

@@sailingdachaidh1409 it's very nice looking, I'll look them up. I have an inflatable now but I think a hard dinghy will be better for long term cruising

What is the navigation software you have on your ipad? Just curious.

Hi there! We are using iNavX with Navionics subscription for up to date charts.

Could I ask what iPad you are using that works for "offline" navigation? Does it work when you are out of cell range? I'm trying to decide what to get for my navigation... a gps unit or a special kind of ipad that works out of range of cell tower...

Hey Tom! So the iPad was originally bought with cellular data which means it would have its own built in GPS that works without cellular data or WiFi. I believe they come with that gps no matter what these days but I would check with apple. All that aside, the gps that is built into your iPhone or iPad isn’t the most accurate and gets spotty in bad weather. We have an external Bad Elf GPS that our apple devices pair to via Bluetooth. The Bad Elf is the way to go if you want reliable and accurate positioning for the iPad or iPhone chart plotters. It’s nice make some better use of devices we’ve already invested money into!

@@sailingdachaidh1409 Thanks so much for this info too! Have you heard if the plug in "Bad Elf" gps works as well as the external one? Just thinking it would be simpler, but maybe not as powerful.
