    Here's a Keith Moon story.....
On one of their 70s tours they had these two roadies who like to play pranks on Keith. One of them had been a construction worker and helped build some of the motels in this chain they were staying at on tour. These motels were in these prefab buildings that you could put up and take down by using this special multi tool thing. These two roadies used this thing to completely dismantle Keith's room down to bare bones and piled all.the stuff in the corner.

I read a biography of Keith. Apparently during the 70's he went on tour of the USA with The Who. At the end of the tour the money was divided up between the band. Roger, John and Pete all received around $250,000 each, whilst Keith got around $47.50. Why? Because they had taken out of Keith's share all the money that had to be paid for all the damaged hotel rooms etc.

    • @infrasleep
      @infrasleep 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

I remember after he died it was announced on the News (that sort of thing happened in England in the 70's !!) that he left an estate of £35,000,which-even back in 1978/9 -was pretty small for a rock icon To give an idea-I guess that would be about £350,000 in todays money allowing for inflation-which is still pretty poor for a rock super group member. I guess it was due to hefty damages bills! I would also imagine that Moons estate today-that his family get-runs into millions from royalties -with none of it going to irate hotel owners !

Keith was unfortunately a lost cause. He was trying to save himself towards the end but failed. They pretty much know now that he had run away ADD but they didn't know what that was or how to deal with it then. Just about everybody who knew him loved him but worried about him also. 2 life events that scarred him so deep he couldn't get past was his wife separating from him and the fact that he accidentally ran over his assistant which killed him.
He was a brilliant drummer in his own right. He probably wasn't the type of drummer you would use as a studio musician but he knew how to Rock the Who. The Who certainly wouldn't have been the same without him in the 60s and 70s.

My point was that his drumming was simple enough for that random kid to just jump on stage and play no problem. Maybe I'm just spoiled with modern day virtuoso drummers, but the drumming in bands like The Who is honestly just very entry level and basic these days.

I don’t think the kid was playing at Keith moon level bro…
He was just a kid who knew how to play the drums that filled in. Keith moon is still recognized as one of the best drummers of all time, and undoubtedly the best of his era. Sure he was a godforsaken absolute mad lad of a party animal and sure that impacted his play from time to time but as wild as he was in life he was wilder with the sticks in his hand 🥁

Good thing I held on to my ticket because as long as you had your ticket they honored it when The Who returned a couple month later. Saw them at the Providence RI Civic Center on the same tour where I got to experience because it was🤔 general admission a Cincinnati type of stampeed. I however did manage to survive being crushed against the front door and suffocation from the crowd and got against the stage at center! What a show! What a band! However the real Cincinnati put a end to general admission because of a bunch of kids dying. Sad but it could have been me...I totally get it! Das 😎 all! 👍

Why did Keith Moon do the crazy things he did? It’s easy, he did these things to get your attention!
Man, he played the drums(debatably, the best rock drummer of all time),and with ADHD, he played the noisiest instrument there is for a reason. He wanted your attention, and he didn’t give a fuck about what you thought about what he did to get it! They didn’t call him “Moon the loon” for nothing!
There were a lot of Moon moments that I never knew of, so that was cool. I don’t think anyone EVER went to the extreme to drive everyone crazy more than Keith did-literally!
If you ever saw The Who back in the late 60s and early 70s, you could forgive Keith for his indiscretions-they put on the best live shows ever!
Like Led Zeppelin was after losing John Bonham, the WHO were never the same after Keith died…

I come home from school every day and play along to the kids are all right soundtrack until I got as close as I could to playing like Keith or as close as a 12 year old middle American kid can get. After hearing so many stories about Keith from people who knew him, it’s interesting to hear Keef as a subject of rock n roll folklore for future generations who didn’t get to see or hear him in person, and continue the stories of his raving idiotic lunatic genius for years to come

My dad knew the owner of an indoor arean of sorts back in the 60s(he was a teenager at the time 😅) and The Who came and played. Well, he said they were so loud they blew the main fuse in the breaker box not once but 3 times, so their roadie found a specific size wrench to replace the fuse in the breaker box 😂
He said the whole place could’ve burnt to the ground in minutes but hey, in was the 60s 🤣

I listen to videos with earbuds to help me sleep at night. Tonight just happened to be this video. Strange, as I could hear and understand ever single word while dreaming still. That occasionally happens and it makes me think I’m not dreaming else I wouldn’t be able to understand what I’m hearing. In my dream, I was at a bonfire party and every time someone tried to talk to me, I’d say I had to turn down the volume on my phone to hear them, and I’d try to do so but it obviously wouldn’t turn down since I wasn’t really doing it. Ended up dropping my phone (in dream) in the fire. I got it out, reboots it, but the glass seemed cracked and shattered. Phone was working, but touchscreen wasn’t since glass was shattered so I removed all the glass using my finger and cut my finger causing bleeding. So real I was convinced my phone was shattered in real life. When I woke up for real the first thing I looked at was my finger. Finger was fine, as was my iPhone. Going back to sleep now, lol, to listen to the rest.

They were pushing their Quadrophenia album, and smashed their instruments-the whole nine yards! It was Rock and Roll at its absolute best!!

Funny stories. I remember most of these from reading a great book about Moon years ago called Dear Boy.
For all the hijinks though it's worth pointing out that a man lost his life because of Moon's stupid antics. I've read that after that awful event Keith became totally out of control as he (quite rightly) blamed himself for what happened.
Maniac drummer and quite simply amazing in his prime. Unorthodox but outstanding.
Also as a side note I've heard Animal of the Muppets was based on Moon...makes sense. In fact combine Animal and Crazy Harry = Keith Moon!
    Great documentary very entertaining!

I was in bands in my youth, but we were the sort of musicians who tidied the dressing rooms and ran the hoover round before we left. 😂 Now I'm 50 and to be honest, I think these sort of pranks are a massive entitled waste of money. I'm not sure if I would have found it funny at the time, either. We used to meet musicians from other groups, who were all checked out on acid, or very destructive like this and we just couldn't understand why. I've tried everything at least once, it didn't mean I started doing it on a daily basis. So despite how amusing the tales are, I've not doubt I would have considered him the biggest waste of flesh going.
That's ironic though, as I have seen The Who live, twice. Unfortunately after Moon died. I absolutely LOVE his drumming, he was one of the best drummers that has ever lived. I do wish he had lived longer and not thrown his talent away with all the booze and pills. I miss Keith's drumming madly but not sure I would have wanted to be anywhere near him on one of his drunken escapades.

John Entwistle was called "The Ox" because while Keith, Pete and Roger all 3 moved around on stage or performed in various animated ways, John stood still like an anchor which he just wasn't into trying to show off other than his unique style of bass playing which he seemed to burn up all the energy the other members did but in his fingers.
As far as when you pronounced Pete's last name as shind, Townshend is actually pronounced Townsend with a silent "H" Thunderfingers also comes from John's finger picking style which he brought to the bass from his days as being a French Horn player in a trad band and boys brigade band in his youth.
Being a fan since 1979 and reading books, watching documentaries and reading magazine articles, you learn a great deal.

Back in the day Keith Moons favorite toys were marbles. He used to have them with him as one does.. his shtick was to let them all fall out of the sack at a high staircase at a station or even in class, his teacher got mad at him, when Keith extra excited „failed“ at picking em up, losing them (deliberately) outta hand again after having collected some of them.
