When you pick a Beretta 92/92X first thing that hits you is the cut that is missing under the trigger guard. It's like it's stuck in a design 50 years old, a massive blunder from Beretta. That immediately creates the feeling of a short grip and of a huge uncomfortable ,rubbing surface on your middle finger which sits under the trigger guard.
i have permanent calluses on my middle fingers because of using my 92x two matches a weekend for years. I didnt even think about what caused them until your comment lol.
@@mynameisjeff6988 I used to be a big fan of Beretta platform like 10+ years ago. Now if I m choosing a competition gun , I ll get a CZ Shadow 2 without even thinking twice. The ergonomy is so much better, only need to put a couple of Lok grip panels to replace the metallic factory slippery ones and you are good to go.
You are right, frame it's too short, little bit too take off also with performance trigger. The feeling changes with a magwel but cannot be used in production division.
I bought the pdp because of you and Joel. So far my round count is around 400 rounds so really not very many and only 200 of those were with an optic because hurrrr durrr plate not included. Anyway, so far I can say it is very easy to be accurate with it. It is a bit snappy but I am going to run it stock for a while and see what I like and what i want to change. I think I'm going to do a staccato next. Shooting pistols is just fun. The thing about the staccatos is they're so expensive i could use that money as a down payment for a decent gunsmithing lathe and then i could turn custom rifle barrels. I could get a pretty decent Precision Matthews for like 12k. Smaller one for around 5.
Ben what all u said well respected , i disagree on : the weight of the gun is very nice in order to control the recoil (another assistance factor) the trigger out of the box is one of the best in the market and its also adjustable.. , i agree on the short grip but beretta will fix that with the V2 92x , in any ways id like you to comment on the plus of the gun. if you also upgrade the hammer to the match hammer the trigger is out of this planet better than pistols that cost 5000 and so on..
Ben... I wasn't sure which video to post this comment on, so am doing it here. I am curious if you have ever messed around with the HK VP9 and what your thoughts are on the gun. I started competing in USPSA with a Glock 17 and moved to the VP9 long slide (5") about a year ago. I put an SRO on it and the Taylor Freelance brass side panels and backstrap for the extra weight (5 extra ounces) and love it.
I don’t like the safety lever on the 92x Performance, which they repurposed on the new frame mounted decocker models. They bite my left hand. I prefer the standard 92X with a Langdon trigger job and a hump grip.
I had one, came with a broken rear sight out of the box just for me! Tried to love it, but couldn't. I had way too many issues and their CS did a beyond terrible job of handing any of the issues too.
How would you change the 92XP, any variation thereof, to better accommodate you if you had to shoot with it? (Sponsored or on team Beretta, etc.) Is it something where changing out the grips for heavier brass grips to rebalance the weight, and adding a mag-well extension, tuning the trigger, or even going as far to have the frame cut for additional checkering or shaving material from it (undercut trigger guard, raised beavertail, etc.) could make you fall in love with Beretta all over again? Has the era of the 92 come and gone?
Agreed. I bought one because I really like the 92, but I can’t get with this. The grip sucks, the optic mount sucks, and I suck when I shoot this. Beretta, I want to love you but damn, you make it hard sometimes.
Hello Ben, My experience with the 92x Performance essentially mirrors yours. As an extension I am curious if you are familiar with the Langdon LTT Beretta. With your extensive history shooting the Beretta platform I am curious to know if you believe that the Langdon’s are the “Ultimate Beretta’s” especially when compared to something like the 92G. Thanks.
I’ve noticed that you have very interesting phrasing when you describe if you find something useable, vs unusable or even useable but something you don’t like.
I have the original version of the 92X (not the XI that he's got) and I like it a lot but I also have a 92c and I can tell a difference in quality between the one made in Italy and the one made here in TN. I got the 92X cuz of the Vertec grip it's easier for me to handle, and I like the other features that it has, plus 3 mags out of the box. Mine's also the original non-optic version. I like it a lot, but I'm also not a competition shooter. I can definitely see why certain things about it turn people off. I'm definitely not trading mine in, it's still very good for my needs, but not everybody else's!
I bought one . Meh 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️. It was an impulse buy. I did have to add a Wilson spring to get it to extract . Dot sits really high . Trigger is ok . Wouldn’t do it again
Any professional competition shooter can win with whatever gun you give them. Given time, ammo, and practice. Ben is just saying “given my experience with multiple guns, and extensive experience with berettas in general, I don’t like how it feels” He’s not saying “I couldn’t win a competition with this”.
Put in the Beretta Match Hammer and it'd get rid of that SA takeup. There are some other upgrades on the table if you want to invest on this platform, but the Match Hammer is the first step in my opinion. Lok Grip panels, Match Firing Pin and 10 lb. mainspring would round things off. I love my 92X Performance because it is not fatiguing to shoot. It has a very smooth recoil impulse if you spring it to your ammo (a buffer sort of helps too). You can get spoilt by that feel that other guns would feel violent in comparison.
@martinezpaj The Match Firing Pin is slightly extended but not as much as aftermarket firing pins. It improves ignition with a lighter mainspring and reduces lock time. If you're okay with the stock firing pin, then keep it. The Wilson Combat Shok-Buff polarizes people, but I like it a lot. It can slip over a DPM for a very soft impact. DPM isn't Production legal though. Beretta sells Match Recoil Spring "calibration" sets with different weights if you shoot Production.
I specifically looked for and bought a used "like new" 92X Performance w/o optic cut so i could send it in to LTT for optic cut and trigger work (and added the flat trigger). 6.25lb D/A, 2.25lb S/A. Got LOK Grips for it and love the gun.
As someone with small hands and who likes long slides / heavier slides, I really like the 92XP. The grip does seem smaller but for me that's a good thing. Like you said it's all subjective. I also really like my M9A3 and 92FS.
I have exactly the same relation to Shadow 2. It's a great gun, very popular for a reason, but every time I pick it up, everything just feels off and wrong.
Never tried the X but I have a 92A1 that I don’t like, despite having nostalgia from Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and that it was the issued sidearm for a while, etc., I just don’t like the feel and shoot ability of the platform. In that era pistol, I prefer the P226.
This is a somewhat ridiculous review meant to troll the audience. It makes no sense to complain about one's pinky hanging off the 92X but not the same problem with the 226 (notice the X5 comes standard with a magwell). I'm also willing to bet Ben knows about LTT magic though he didn't mention LTT at all.
I have about 6 or 7 friends with broken Beretta 92s now. 2 of them had the 92x performance model. I think one was a firing pin protrusion issue and other was an extractor issue. The other ones malfunction frequently or had their cam block break prematurely. I guess they don't build them like they used to.
@@Duhtonyle i got an m9. Just a regular one no rail or nothin. Got in like 2 years ago n its been really solid. Actually has a better trigger than my 92 compact made in italy 2017
I got the 92x performance defensive - the one without the rail. I'm too big for the gun. It is absolutely beautiful, shoots great, but I'm a 6' 6" ogre, and my pinky hangs off the bottom as well...so, yes, I have absolutely pinched my finger on a reload. Whereas my CZ Shadow 2 grip has that little extra length, and so I find it more pleasant to shoot.
@gutblaster187 I'm not a competition shooter, so I don't use them. My EDC is a Beretta APX LEO. The original, not the A1, and that grip fits my hand great. I love that pistol.
@@machinebeard1639 Not all magwells are gigantic. For instance, Springer precision makes a sleek magwell for the 92 intended for carry. Having a grip that is only sufficiently long is optimal for a a defensive pistol but magwells are there as an option for adjustment.
I don't care for the 92x mainly because of the flat backstrap, but the frame mounted safety is the big deal breaker for me. It gets in the way of grabbing the slide to charge it.
Hey Ben, I’m really sorry to hear about your dislike of the 92X. I work with people who are dissatisfied like this. I am happy to help you find a new home for that worthless piece at your convenience.
A buddy has a 92X and the steel frame does make it feel very different to my 92's. I prefer the aluminum frame too. It wasn't a light gun and I don't think it really needed the added weight.
Perhaps you could review the Shadow 2 Compact and see how it compares to its bigger brother. Would probably make sense for those who carry and shoot matches(?)
I remember when I went to my LGS to buy a CZ75 I ended up ogling a Shadow 2, so the counter guy showed me a 92x as well. I hated it as soon as I picked it up, grip somehow felt smaller than a G19, and the trigger guard disagreed with my middle finger. Ended up buying the Shadow.
As far as double action, single action handguns go I am a 1911 and Beretta 92 guy. It’s just what I like. Bringing up being a 1911 guy you would think that I would like the frame mounted safety on that Beretta, but I’m not sure how I feel about it 😂 you like the guns that you like
I don’t personally understand the argument for a steel frame over aluminum. Plenty of guys out there tearing it up in competition with poly frame guns. The LTT 92G RDO is the perfect Beretta IMO, though admittedly I want to try the Langdon 92XI Squalo for LO.
Poly dampens recoil bc its squishy and flexy, and steel soaks it up through weight. Aluminum doesn't flex and doesn't have weight, so it's like when you hit a rock with a crowbar and your hands feel weird
@ Interesting argument. I’ve never found an aluminum frame to be an issue and I shoot my 92 a lot better than my G19, but those aren’t exactly comparable. Maybe I’m sleeping on steel. Oh well, guess I gotta buy more guns (twist my arm).
Ben i was curious if you were going to test the new Wilson combat DIV 77. its a pretty spectacular looking 2011. Its supposed to be the cats ass. No grip saftey or muzzle flip. I know you would give an honest review. Thanks.
I picked up a 92GTS and wanted to love it. Ergo’s are fine, trigger is good…better with a 11# mainspring. Soft recoil. But… Optics are mounted too high, even with the Toni plate. Accuracy was horrible, like 2x the groups vs. a PDP, P229, P30, A01. Lots of barrel to frame slop. It also has a “slow” barrel. I needed to bump up my reloads to make power factor. Matter of fact all of my Berettas have slower barrels than comparable barrel length guns.
I was gonna get one cause I do like the 92 . However there seems to be real reliability problems with 92x. Feels like when ever someone brings out a 92X performance the thing starts choking at some point. Then again I have only seen like 3-4 of them at matches.
Most of that takeup can be eliminated with the OEM match hammer. I''m guessing your issue is the brigadier slide, which makes the gun sit visibly higher and become top heavy. Making the rear of the grip terminate at a sharp angle rather than the smooth curve of the M9 surely did not help either. The front of the grip is the same length as that of the 226 (a gun that has always felt unergonomic to me).
I’ve always been drawn to the beretta 92. I do have stupid, long ape hands, so a lot of guns just don’t feel good for me. Are there any berettas that are still in production that are good for guys with big hands?
The grip angle feels off, is the 92x any different from the 92fs? Also I think itd be nice if manufacturers started displaying grip angles, ive got wrist problems and the cz75 angle feels right to me.
I don't like the new grip angle. I like the OG grip. I know- back straps. Don't care........I just like the old one. I had a Wilson combat Beretta centurion, loved the impulse, loved the quality but could not shoot the gun as well as I wanted because that new grip causes me to have to change my grip and I ride the slide lock.......I'm not changing my whole shooting style for it. I traded it for some CZ's.............something I know and use well.
Shilling aside 😅. For me, I'd like to know between this and TTI Canik Combat. I've been shooting for 8 months using G17.4 stock. NEVER been able to get a straight shot.
I like the standard black 92X better. Not the performance etc models. When people hear 92X they think of the model you have there, but that's not a standard 92X. All I really wanted was the vertec grip and ability to change irons. I think my favorite is honestly probably the Centurion models. My LTT guns are far and away the best Berettas I own, but for some reason they don't have a standard 92X model unless I send them a gun myself. I don't generally buy competition guns since I have no interest in competing.
I actually kinda liked the feel of the 92x performance in my hand. But having already put the Xtreme-S trigger kit into my M9A3 I realized there would be no point in getting the 92x since I'm happy with the M9A3 ergos.
I shoot these in carry optics and production. I’m new to the sport. Have to agree about the pinky issue I have normal size hands and unless I’m using an extended mag well my right hand pinky just hangs out or wraps around the bottom.
Shooting what you train with helps. While I personally prefer other pistols (love my a300 though), but the Beretta 92 has earned its place as a top notch firearm.

When you pick a Beretta 92/92X first thing that hits you is the cut that is missing under the trigger guard. It's like it's stuck in a design 50 years old, a massive blunder from Beretta. That immediately creates the feeling of a short grip and of a huge uncomfortable ,rubbing surface on your middle finger which sits under the trigger guard.
i find my beretta 92x to be one of my more comfortable guns, of which i have many
@TheBirdboy84 Just curious, compared to what other competition guns? 🤔
i have permanent calluses on my middle fingers because of using my 92x two matches a weekend for years.
Ben has resorted to trashing other brands to secure Mike Glover’s SIG money 😂
I prefer the standard 92X RDO with the "Xtreme" trigger group from the Performance, even with the sky-high optic mount.
Hi Ben, you should do a video on a Tanfo. They don't get enough love these days.
You are right, frame it's too short, little bit too take off also with performance trigger. The feeling changes with a magwel but cannot be used in production division.
I like the Storm Trooper color combination you got going on there, though.
You’re just not Miami enough for a Beretta.
4:59 That’s it Beretta is cooked
TIME magazine-
Critically acclaimed Ben Stoeger “I don’t like it! “ leaves a lasting impression.
Does the Beretta make it easy to FIND THE DOT....as Joel discussed on the benstoegerproshop channel?
What do you think of the LTT 92s?
I'd love to hear Ben's opinion on an LTT 92 RDO with their trigger job.
(Sponsored or on team Beretta, etc.)
Is it something where changing out the grips for heavier brass grips to rebalance the weight, and adding a mag-well extension, tuning the trigger, or even going as far to have the frame cut for additional checkering or shaving material from it (undercut trigger guard, raised beavertail, etc.) could make you fall in love with Beretta all over again?
Has the era of the 92 come and gone?
Agreed. I bought one because I really like the 92, but I can’t get with this. The grip sucks, the optic mount sucks, and I suck when I shoot this. Beretta, I want to love you but damn, you make it hard sometimes.
Hello Ben,
My experience with the 92x Performance essentially mirrors yours.
Can't be that bad. JJ Racaza won the nationals with it.
I hate when ppl judge a gun by what others can do with it 😂
@BullseyeBallistics-kf1jw Dumbest comment I have heard.
JJ Racaza can win with slingshot
@@eagle5501 he's right. There are comp shooters who shoot 320, and I still hate it and think it's a terrible handgun
Any professional competition shooter can win with whatever gun you give them. Given time, ammo, and practice.
Ben is just saying “given my experience with multiple guns, and extensive experience with berettas in general, I don’t like how it feels”
He’s not saying “I couldn’t win a competition with this”.
My big thing is frame mounted safety. Don't like slide mounted safety. There are a lot of tradeoffs i'm willing to overlook for that.
What exactly does match firing pin? Got all of those except firing pin and buffer.
Love that gun ❤
I had the same experience with the FS/G did a lot of time on those, and then have a 92X Perf and now a GTS and the feel is quite different.
This was me with the standard CZ 75, then I picked up a Shadow 2 and bought one the same day
I have exactly the same relation to Shadow 2.
Really bro?
@@FirstLast-ff7qx yes can confirm
@@Duhtonyle i got an m9. Just a regular one no rail or nothin. Got in like 2 years ago n its been really solid. Actually has a better trigger than my 92 compact made in italy 2017
I've never touched a Beretta, but I totally agree with the Q5-PDP comparison
I got the 92x performance defensive - the one without the rail. I'm too big for the gun. It is absolutely beautiful, shoots great, but I'm a 6' 6" ogre, and my pinky hangs off the bottom as well...so, yes, I have absolutely pinched my finger on a reload. Whereas my CZ Shadow 2 grip has that little extra length, and so I find it more pleasant to shoot.
Are you opposed to magwells?
I think I know the exact feeling, held a Ruger P89 and just wanted to put it back down
I remember when I went to my LGS to buy a CZ75 I ended up ogling a Shadow 2, so the counter guy showed me a 92x as well.
I don’t like how low the optic sits
Ben i was curious if you were going to test the new Wilson combat DIV 77. its a pretty spectacular looking 2011. Its supposed to be the cats ass. No grip saftey or muzzle flip. I know you would give an honest review. Thanks.
Berretta ia bettar than sig.. at least they dont have to get sued and put on a no go list with police..
I picked up a 92GTS and wanted to love it. Ergo’s are fine, trigger is good…better with a 11# mainspring. Soft recoil. But…
Optics are mounted too high, even with the Toni plate.
I liked it except for the trigger being exactly where my weak hand thumb wants to be. This is the one gun i dont think a lefty will ever like.
I for one really like the Beretta 92X line. But for the life of me I can't understand why they didn't redesign the slide to better accept red dots.
Yeah, the balance is off on that thing. They need to remove the rail AND give it a regular non-Vertec frame.
Dr. Ben is like Dr. Dolittle. He talks to the guns, and they talk back.
I just hate the rounded trigger guard on the 92X series. Feels weird compared to the standard square trigger guard.
I love my 92x full size and my compact. Beretta chads rise up.
Thats funny. I find all 92s weird feeling in the hand but i adore the Q5 SF. Go figure.
Asking if you can get that rdo up any higher?
We need him to try the DWX next.
Ben, can you try an LTT Beretta? I’m thinking of buying one for USPSA because I’ve always been a Beretta fanboy but the LTT’s seem to be a better buy.
We need Ben to try out a new beretta. Ltt elite or m9a4?
I think you'd really like the DWX, it's not that difficult to shave off the ozs for competition.
Curious about your take on the S&W M&P 2.0 series
Love my 92F but shot my buddies 92X and was confused on how they strayed so far. You should try an LTT PX4 storm, love mine.
The comment section for this video will be entertaining. Can't wait for the follow up video.
Picked up a 92X from Langdon tactical and somewhat understand your feelings the balance is off the recoil is way too stout, but overall I like the gun
Be careful when you buy Berettas. The dealer may sell them, but not take them on trade in.
What’s up with a few competition shooters having cracked barrels on these at 18-20k rounds
Try the LTT guns, I hated my 92X Performance but love the LTT PX4 and 92.
How do they let you bring your pistols to Saudi Arabia?
Do you like the px4?
Ben.. hey can I borrow your gun to shit on it in one of my videos... LOL!!! So great! Cheers!
I shoot these in carry optics and production. I’m new to the sport. Have to agree about the pinky issue I have normal size hands and unless I’m using an extended mag well my right hand pinky just hangs out or wraps around the bottom.
I know I know. A good shooter can shot anything. Blah blah blah. But the success you had with a beretta speaks volumes about your abilities.
Shooting what you train with helps.
While I personally prefer other pistols (love my a300 though), but the Beretta 92 has earned its place as a top notch firearm.
I keep on flinching because he keeps flagging me through the screen
