- Weber Performer Generation 1 Stainless Steel SSP
Since quite a while I was looking for a Weber Performer from the first generation. The so called SSP.
After I found one it was a great pleasure to me restoring it.
I filmed some of the more important steps of the restoring process
Have fun watching
Dee
Great video! I just scored one of these on the side of the road and now i cant wait to go through it. Seems like its a very well made grill and meant to last. Tha ks for making a very informative video.
Thanks for your really motivating words.
I must say that this work really is way more than just work. For me it is sort of a spiritual thing to bring up the shine again.
Have fun with yours. That is really a grill which will last forever with a little care
Have a great day
Dee
Wauw, what a very nice restauration, well done !
Thanks so much
WoW! Great job! Lots of hard work and elbow grease!
Hey Scott
Yeah that was a lot of work, but to me it doesn’t feel like work, it’s more like a spiritual journey and experience.
Thanks for your motivating comment
Awesome video!
Thanks mate 👍🏻
Great job, I will use some of your ideas on my Performer as well
That Sounds Great 👍🏻
Thanks for your positive comment
That was an outstanding video! And timely, too. I just today purchased a 1993 green SSP that I'm going to fix up, and maybe even modify
Thank for your most motivating comment and please keep me updated with the restoring progress on your SSP
You did a great job on that SSP. Looks better than new. I have an EO redhead (not a performer, though). Going to have to break out some metal polish this winter after watching this!
Thanks Jim,
I had a lot of fun restoring it. Glad I could give you the idea to work on yours
Best regards
Dietrich
Super gemacht! Gerne mehr davon..
Danke dir. Kommt noch ein Video von nem Genesis 5000. 👍🏻
Nice one Bro! 👍🏼
Thanks buddy 🙏
Super Gerät es ist eben ein Weber Grill 😄
@@alfredaalderink4952 absolut. Ich liebe diese Teile ❤️
Love the video! Do you have any videos about putting the black frame back together? My black frame has come lose towards the bottom. Looks like plastic fasteners need replaced etc.
Hey Chad
well, the frame reassembly is easy.
The bolts keeping it tight are good enough. Made of plastic are only the tabs to close the frame. They don’t tighten anything
Check the info box of my channel
There you can find my email address
If you experience more trouble leave me a mail
Take care and thanks for your motivating words

Great video. I recently picked up a redhead SSP and will be using pointers from you to restore it. How did you remove the tabletop/door from the frame?
Hey Jeff,
there is a kind of wire inside that lid. It works like a spring. You need to flip it into the opposite position so it won’t set up pressure on the lid. Once it becomes loose, you can move it back and forth.
Since that wire works like an axis you can push it deeper inside the frame and so it opposite side will come out of the frame and then you take the entire wire out and the lid can be removed.
Hope you understand what I am trying to say
Thanks for your motivating comment

Dietrich
Do you have an extended video showing how all the parts are taken off? Like the wheels and the Weber badge? Thank you
Hey Ster
I have some other videos in which I restore a regular kettle or a Genesis Gold C
But at the moment I am not that sure if these videos show that
Anyway in both actions you need to be very carefully not to break the items which tighten wheels or badge.
I use a razor blade for the badge and a screwdriver in combination with tongs for the wheels. First take the plastic off and then work on that little metal thing
I have a group on Facebook called Weber Genesis Classics, go there and ask the members. They all know a lot about these actions.
Hope that helps you a bit
Best regards
Dee
@@Mithrandir4444 is the badge glued on? I noticed there’s two screws behind.
@@franksters08these screws should be clips as far as I remember. You need a razor blade to losen them.
No glue at all
Do you do anything to the rust spots?
What rust spots do you mean?
@@Mithrandir4444 like round the base of the lid handle. I've just picked up a performer ss but the frame and lid has a few rust spots. Wondering what the best way to treat them.

Oh I see.
I use Tannox, but I am not sure if that is available in your country
I have another video, unfortunately in German language, in which I show how to work with it

@@Mithrandir4444 After the rust treatment. Do you paint or spray the spots you have teated? Thank you for the replies.
@@jonathanlilley2526
If black is the needed color, Tannox is cool, because it turns black and kills the rust.
If you need a certain color you will need to find a solution
In the video you can see how Tannox does a great job for black kettles
