I was there with my husband and 2 friends; also in September and mostly in Stockholm. Such a clean city. Many things to see and do. We actually stayed across the street from Central Station. The one thing I wasn't expecting was that most many places didn't take cash. Wonderful country overall!
While in Stockholm, take a trip to gotland. Might need longer vacation, 1hour train to nynäshamn and 3hour with boat to visby. Visby with medieval houses, stone walls and streets. When at gotland, best is to hire a car to get around, alot to see on the island, fårö, gotska sandön with its long sands and ofcourse Hoburgsgubben in the south of gotland. ❤
I have lived in Sweden all my life, and I have never in my life seen Cops with automatic weapons in Sweden. That was a mind blowing thing to see in your video.
Swedish cops have for the longest time never had the need to carry real weapons unless really necessary, things are a bit different today and we all know why.

@@WyattandReyka It's something you do multiple times a day. It's something you might invite your neighbour for, or friend, your first date in sweden can often be a fika and not an actual dinner. Most work places have like a time for Fika, a time when like most go to grab coffee, some snacks and sit down, often together and just chat, not working, so basically a break, but with some swedish social norms and practices baked in. It's also linked with how we view cafe's, for example the american coffee shop Starbucks have tried multiple times to launch in sweden but kinda failed, their last attemt has had minor success atleast, 15 shops in whole of sweden, the biggest problem with starbucks is how the place is built around take and go, while Cafe's in sweden customers tend to want to hang around and chill for hours. You sometimes go to a Cafe with your friends / family / date / colleagues and hang there for up to 2-3 hours! you can very often buy a "normal" coffee, that cost the same as a Latte or fancy coffee, but it's included free refill in the price. Sometimes buissnis meetings takes place at Cafe's, just like it can take place in resturants in Usa, like how you can invite people of the other company to dinner before sealing a deal, such things also happen but at cafe's here. Swedes don't go nearly as much out to eat as southern europe or Usa, but we treat Cafe more similar to how southern europe and perhaps Usa treats resturants, like a second living room to meet up and hang with your friends.
@@WyattandReyka Yes, 9 o'clock fika at the workplace is more or less standard, though not usually with any pastry, but now and then someone brings cockies or some other sweet treat to share. Some persons take their breakfast sandwich then, but in any case it is the time when all the collegues gather for 15-20 min, having a cup of coffee or tea, and socialice a bit between work tasks. It is usually a time for fika somewhere between 2 and 3 in the afternoon too. Exact time varies between jobsites. At my job it is about 2 o'clock or just after.
But we say fika when we have something to drink or eat when we socialize, even if it's just a cup of tea or a coffee, otherwise we just hang out. I don't call it fika if I just sit without anything to eat or drink.
Im so proud to be Swedish. Our country is so clean and calming in a way. I've traveled to all countries in Europe but i think Sweden and Austria are the best - for me.

"Tomtar" are gnomes and usually gnomes were watching over animals and farms and could get very angry if you didn't take care of it. Therefor you put out a plate/bowl of porridge to please them. Later gnomes got mixed with the tradition of Santa Claus, but to this day some people put out a bowl with porridge on Christmas. 5:37 That's a chestnut. I thought so :) I fly drones in Stockholm and it's much more complicated than people think with online "drivers license" (not hard to get) checking several maps etc. before flying. But generally flying in the city center is very hard if not impossible @@WyattandReyka
I get that you would want to see Stockholm, it's our capital Afterall, but Sweden is so much more. The essence of all Nordic countries I would say is our nature and I'll think most of my Nordic brothers and sisters will agree on that statement. Even the smaller towns that have our beautiful nature around itself are absolutely worth visiting. I would recommend visiting Bohuslän (I am really biased about this one) during summer, not now though, autumn and winter it is basically un-habitable. Now is the perfect time for going north when the aurora borealis might start appearing.

@@35Justme1 Bohuslän is the country just north of Gothenburg all the way up to the Norwegian border. Depending on your choice of transportation, starting from Gothenburg would be the best alternative. From there, the train, the private and the communal buses depart. Even the hiking trail 'Bohusleden' begins in the outskirts of Gothenburg and ends by the border to Norway. But renting a car i guess is the best way to move around and see the most places in a finite amount of time. Either way, getting to Gothenburg is easy, being the second largest city in Sweden. You can get to this city by air, sea or land. I would argue that May could actually be the best month. It's right before/at the start of the summer season. Less crowded and to be honest, May was the warmest and sunniest month we had all year.

@@WyattandReyka About Tomten in Scandinavian folklore is that he is actually a little helper on the farm that you never see. They are generally described as being short, having a long white beard, and wearing a conical or knit cap in gray, red or some other bright colour. They often have an appearance somewhat similar to that of a garden gnome. And you should be friendly and respect him , otherwise you will have misfortune. I'd say that's a difference with the modern day Santa (also called tomten). Your mormor's gifts are probably connected to this older version of tomten.

To me, as a Swede who was even raised Catholic, hearing you say Sweden "used to be Catholic" is so weird to me 😆Sweden has been Protestant for so long and it is so ingrained in the national identity; the whole Protestant work ethic for example is still a huge thing here even though we are a pretty secular country nowadays. As to where you should visit... It's probably too late now as this video is six days old, but if you like churches then coming to my hometown Uppsala, which is only an hour or so north of Stockholm by train, might be fun as we have the tallest cathedral in Scandinavia. It also still has a lot of the old Catholic trimmings; for example, the tomb of King Gustav Vasa--considered the "father" of Sweden today--is in what used to be the chapel to the Virgin Mary and so it has a lovely blue ceiling with gold stars. Opposite the cathedral is Gustavianium, a museum that in it's cupola has the second-oldest surviving anatomical theatre (i.e. basically a place to dissect cadavers for students) in the world. However it's currently closed until 2024 for renovations ifaik. Old Uppsala was also an important political and religious centre in the Viking age, so there is a museum in Old Uppsala close to the three royal burial mounds that talks about the older parts of itys history. I'd also go to Gothenburg as it's a beautiful city, especially in the summer, and there's a fun amusement park there called Liseberg.

A small city that i might be biased but visit the county of östergötland there are two cities norrköping and linköping which both have many things to see and there is alao ödeshög with the mountain omberg and a really old rune stone called rökstenen

I would suggest you must visit the ABBA Museum! ABBA was an epic band that ruled the 70s and 80s. They have sold over 400 million re ords. Only the Beatles have sold more. You can even go on a stage and sing with their avatars!
As a Sweden my favorite city is Göteborg (Gothenburg) and you should totally visit it some day! I just find it more cozy and it’s also such a beautiful city

The spiked version is a chestnut in its early growth. Later during the season it will turn brown and smooth, the way we normally think of when we think chestnut. A fascinating transition for sure 🙂
The tree with spiky balls on them is called "hästkastanj träd" which translates to horse chestnut tree, and those spiky balls have chestnuts inside them :)

But we’re probably one of the most Lutheran ”embossed” countries (together with our Scandinavian and nordic neighbours, even to this day despite the decline of religion the secularisation of church. Don’t know for how long that will hold up though…
@@WyattandReyka I’m from the 5th largest municipality of Sweden, Linköping (I think they should use the latin name, Linkopia, in international contexts; much more catchy), which- I guess- doesn’t say much for an american; ca 150000 inhabitants. It’s around 130 miles southwest of Stockholm (or exactly 200 kilometers). It’s also ”the Airplane city of Sweden”- I thought avout this since you were on that airplane ho(s)tel. Many airplanes are still made here to this day; only for military use though, no passanger planes (that I know of). Because of our 200 years of peace and neutrality (world record; longer than Switserland, which of course you- since you’re well-traveled americans- know is a different country😉😁) we’ve had to have a strong defence (up to the 21st century, when they started to reduce it, which of course now realised was a bad choice and has to be reversed). In a while in the 50s we even had the world’s 4th largest air force!

while the water isnt exactly "clean", its perfectly safe to fish from and even swim in regarding simming there, while i seen people do this, i dont think the city officially allows it looking at stockholmns official website, they got a page called miljobarometern where they publish reports regarding water cleanliness (specifically in regards to bathing) and the scores for the inner stockholms water seems to indicate its very clean with some minor outlier the reason it looks greenish is probalbly due to light reflections or due to algea, which is common but harmless

Sweden is is different today from a very peaceful and nice country to a very violant one with chuting and explosions almost every day 🤥
That's what Brussels and other European major cities were like just 8 years ago. So I guess times are catching up to us.

You can get to this city by air, sea or land.
I would argue that May could actually be the best month. It's right before/at the start of the summer season. Less crowded and to be honest, May was the warmest and sunniest month we had all year.

They are generally described as being short, having a long white beard, and wearing a conical or knit cap in gray, red or some other bright colour. They often have an appearance somewhat similar to that of a garden gnome. And you should be friendly and respect him , otherwise you will have misfortune. I'd say that's a difference with the modern day Santa (also called tomten). Your mormor's gifts are probably connected to this older version of tomten.

To me, as a Swede who was even raised Catholic, hearing you say Sweden "used to be Catholic" is so weird to me 😆Sweden has been Protestant for so long and it is so ingrained in the national identity; the whole Protestant work ethic for example is still a huge thing here even though we are a pretty secular country nowadays.
As to where you should visit... It's probably too late now as this video is six days old, but if you like churches then coming to my hometown Uppsala, which is only an hour or so north of Stockholm by train, might be fun as we have the tallest cathedral in Scandinavia. It also still has a lot of the old Catholic trimmings; for example, the tomb of King Gustav Vasa--considered the "father" of Sweden today--is in what used to be the chapel to the Virgin Mary and so it has a lovely blue ceiling with gold stars. Opposite the cathedral is Gustavianium, a museum that in it's cupola has the second-oldest surviving anatomical theatre (i.e. basically a place to dissect cadavers for students) in the world. However it's currently closed until 2024 for renovations ifaik. Old Uppsala was also an important political and religious centre in the Viking age, so there is a museum in Old Uppsala close to the three royal burial mounds that talks about the older parts of itys history.
I'd also go to Gothenburg as it's a beautiful city, especially in the summer, and there's a fun amusement park there called Liseberg.

A small city that i might be biased but visit the county of östergötland there are two cities norrköping and linköping which both have many things to see and there is alao ödeshög with the mountain omberg and a really old rune stone called rökstenen

The spiked version is a chestnut in its early growth. Later during the season it will turn brown and smooth, the way we normally think of when we think chestnut. A fascinating transition for sure 🙂

The tree with spiky balls on them is called "hästkastanj träd" which translates to horse chestnut tree, and those spiky balls have chestnuts inside them :)

@@WyattandReyka I’m from the 5th largest municipality of Sweden, Linköping (I think they should use the latin name, Linkopia, in international contexts; much more catchy), which- I guess- doesn’t say much for an american; ca 150000 inhabitants. It’s around 130 miles southwest of Stockholm (or exactly 200 kilometers). It’s also ”the Airplane city of Sweden”- I thought avout this since you were on that airplane ho(s)tel. Many airplanes are still made here to this day; only for military use though, no passanger planes (that I know of). Because of our 200 years of peace and neutrality (world record; longer than Switserland, which of course you- since you’re well-traveled americans- know is a different country😉😁) we’ve had to have a strong defence (up to the 21st century, when they started to reduce it, which of course now realised was a bad choice and has to be reversed). In a while in the 50s we even had the world’s 4th largest air force!

regarding simming there, while i seen people do this, i dont think the city officially allows it
looking at stockholmns official website, they got a page called miljobarometern where they publish reports regarding water cleanliness (specifically in regards to bathing) and the scores for the inner stockholms water seems to indicate its very clean with some minor outlier
the reason it looks greenish is probalbly due to light reflections or due to algea, which is common but harmless
