Ah yes. I reached behind it and did it by feel. It wasn't easy.

i used to wrench on imports and when changing out spedo cables like yours it was a quick fix to unscrew the cable housing at the transmission and pull out the damaged inner cable and if you could get the complete cable out to just slide in the new inner cable to the original cable housing, it saved dismanteling the dash and breaking some of the plastic parts.

Still you have to remove the gages, isn't it? Or the cable goes straight into the gage?

@@MrSeth166 I had to remove the dash. I couldn't push a new cable into the housing as there was some flat part making it impossible to remove the old cable, thus replacing the whole thing.

@@MrSeth166 i was able to pull the inner cable out from the transmission end and install the new cable. Only had to take out the gauge if i could not get all of the old cable out from the bottom

@@arnoldreiter435 The speedometer and odometer have been mostly not functioning on my '96 Tacoma. They will rarely engage intermittently. I just unscrewed the cable from the transmission and I could easily pull it out from the outer housing as arnoldreiter435 pointed out. When I turned it manually, again, it would engage the odometer and speedometer intermittently. Wondering if I have a cable problem or if the gauge itself has gone bad. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks-

@@siobhangagliardo3229 one thing you can try is to pull out the inner cable and inspect the speedo head end. it should have a neat square end to fit into the speedo head. If it looks damaged at all then replace it, if it looks ok then i would suspect the speedo head as the problem

This video nearly saved my life, there roughly 200 videos on replacing a speed sensor and like 5 for Toyota T100 speedmeter cable, your video validated my assumption that I can't own the only T100 with a useless speedometer. So before I order a replacement cable and disassemble my dash..... did it work?

Yep! Still works 50,000 miles later!

I'm not sure. Easy answer: your speedo will just be a bit off.
