Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of months =)
Haughm has a surprisingly good voice live. Even his clean vocals sound very close to the album. In fact, the whole band is actually very good here. Silly me, I never took them for a live band. My mind is officially blown and my heart pleased.
And actually John Haughm was struggling with a serious illness but decided not to postpone the tour and tough it out. He also said that it wasn't supposed to be in black and and white, but the color footage wasn't in a format that was compatible with the editing software.
For me what happened with agalloch will probably never happen again, is that everyone was spectacular in their own way, no egos, no stardom, everyone did their part and contributed to the others. Don Anderson exceptional work, the right team, the performance, Jason William what a performance always stirring the fans, and the drums always at the right time, perfect Chris Greene and his stool.

I've been a fan of numerous musicians playing different genres, everything - all kinds of metal and rock bands, jazz, folk, classic stuff, world music, electronic and hip-hop. This band is still the best for me. There's something special about them. I feel like they were not conforming to any related style of music, even if not on purpose, instead creating something of their own. And being truly progressive. Still remember the time I've discovered them, the first song was In the Shadow. I wish they were still creating music together.
From Wikipedia: "The idea to film a performance for a DVD release was sprung on the band very suddenly during their 2008 European tour. Haughm was ill with pneumonia during the tour, and on the evening of the Belgian performance he was feeling particularly unwell. He described his state as like "a bad hangover complete with hallucinations" and that he was singing "with a throat that felt like it was on fire." The band contemplated canceling the performance but Haughm decided instead to "take it like a man and do it," and during the performance he hid his coughing behind his hair."
His experience with the illness was the inspiration for the lyrics to "The Watcher's Monolith" on Marrow of the Spirit. And also the reason why the concert footage was in black and white was because the color footage wasn't compatible with the editing software as it was in the wrong format, but the black and white footage went well with the band's overall aesthetic, so it was a "happy accident" of sorts. Another thing was that they were unable to bring their usual stage props on the plane to Europe, and requested fog machines for the stage but didn't get them. Although I enjoy the performance on this DVD a lot, when I saw them live at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco for their promotional tour of "Faustian Echoes", when they had the fog machines on at full blast, combined with the scent of the incense they burn during their live performances...HOLY WOW! There were moments where the fog would completely engulf you to the point where you couldn't see anything; the band, the audience, etc. Just thick fog with trippy colors from the stage lighting. Fucking amazing! I don't particularly enjoy concerts so I save them for bands that I really want to see, and that particular concert remains at the top of my list.
Que chingón a de haber sido ese concierto! Me lo imaginé leyendo lo que escribiste y pienso que con esa atmósfera y esas canciones son para no olvidar jamás
When i was a fucking teen who felt like freak , when youtube recently came around i discovered this band and the way agalloch touched and talked with my soul , i knew this was my redemption, agalloch inspired me to discover the peaks of poetry and the love for the universe and free will inside of my own soul . And now 13 years later i am finally recording my own demo , thank you agalloch for existing . NAMASTE from Nepal . I miss you .
What I would do to see them perform here in Australia one day! EDIT: It looks like my wishes were granted. They will be coming down to Australia for a few shows this September. Words can’t express how grateful and excited I am!
Saw them live just two days ago, and they finished the gig with "Kneel to the Cross". My throat was bleeding from screaming the lyrics together with Haughm, and before they left the stage i managed to get a hug from Don... I still haven't recovered from my state of ecstatic euphoria
I think it's amazing that John was seriously ill with pneumonia during this performance and yet he still was able to pull off those harsh metal vocals. Also apparently the reason for the black-and-white footage had nothing to do with Agalloch's overall asthetic; rather it was a technical issue due to the fact that the color footage was unusable because it was recorded using a format that wasn't compatible with the editing software. It was a "happy accident" of sorts.
That's strange... As i've been listening to Agalloch's songs, I've always imagined the singer as some kind of magic creature or something... And now, watching a human singing with this voice...
Watching vids or listening to their live music doesn't give Agalloch any justice. You have to GO SEE them live to truly experience it. Their live shows are beyond description.

Thanks, Agalloch, for the best gig ever yesterday in Helsinki. It was certainly worth the 10 years wait. I was actually a bit surprised to find out that Haughm really has an excellent voice live, especially the clean vocals. Excellent show!
Maravilhoso. Ainda aguardo um show do Agalloch no Brasil :)

I'm so disappointed they didn't do the beautiful acoustic breakdown for 'As Embers Dress The Sky'.
