This hits home, our mine collapsed twice killing a lot of the men in my already small town. Ever since the mines closed my town turned into a drug poverty stricken town. We went from being a town that supplied canada with a lot of its coal to rubble.

Born and raised in Southern Virginia. Everytime I hear this song it makes me cry. My grandpa was a coal miner in West Virginia. He was a very special man who I miss dearly. This song is dedicated to him. Thanks Taylor.

This speaks so highly to me, my family is from Buchanan County, VA and this is so true. My popaw was the last of coal miners in our family, my daddy had to take a job in the prison where he died in the line of duty, and my husband is a logger. And we are just picking up the pieces of the ground, of what’s left of a coal town. Thank you so much for this song Mr. Holbrook ❤️❤️❤️ you never cease to amaze me 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

I work at the coffee shop across from Portal 31 in Lynch, KY where some of this was filmed. My dad worked the mines from age 8 in the late 1940's-50's and his brother worked at Portal 31 until he got too sick to work. Coal has always been a huge part of my family, and out small town. I'm proud to be from a Coal Town and to be a Coal Miner's Daughter!!!

Thank you so much taylor for all your music but especially this song and video! My mother had my brother and i moving about once a year when we were kids and finally we settled for 9 yrs on wilson street in old bottom. I moved to Appalachia when i 9 yrs. old, we would go up on boggs mtn and ride around. Before i moved into town i lived in stonega (for about 4-5 yrs.) We even had a coal truck run through our yard on a rainy night, he tore the fence, power lines and everything down. We would play kn the creek and catch craw dads, thinking we were so cool. Then we moved to new bottom, during the day we would walk up to appy pool ( before closed down) and walk to the park with my family. We would go to the natural tunnel (before they made the walking deck) and walk the trestles to caves and bsg. During the night we would walk on main street and go through old bottom and new bottom just to be out of the house, or get kids to sleep. And on boggs there was this certain spot that you can stand at and during the night you see the whole town light up while listening to the trains. It was my favorite spot to be when i was up there. Now i live in cape coral flordia (for 4 yrs. now) and there nothing but pine trees and palm trees, no weather change besides rain and shine. So i get beyond homesick and when you accounced coal town i was beyond excited i and the video made it my favorite song ever. I love Appalachia its such a wonder town and area. It saddens me that the drugs have got so bad but no matter what happens in that town it will always be home to me. So this video helps me with keeping my home sickness at bay thank you so much!! 🙏❤😊

My grandfather worse his fingers to the Bone in the mines in KY and WV to provide for 4 kids to keep them outa the mines and pushed them north to the factory's. That man was the hardest working man I've known. He died from black lung in 2010. Couldn't leave the life behind he allways went back to make that extra dollar his whole life. I didn't grow up in a coal town but this song reminds me of that man! Thanks for the memories.. keep on doing what you do! It's guys like you saving what's left of country music

My Grandfather was a coal miner in southeast Kentucky back in the 30's & 40's.
My husban works the Oilfields all over Texas. It takes a special breed to work those jobs. A man with a strong back, mind & a good strong woman to hold the homefront down until he pulls back into the driveway.
2014 hit us hard. So many of our oilfield families lost so much. It was hard to watch them suffer.
Thank God that he kept doors open to provide for our family. Thank God I saved $. Thank God for what we have today. While our men slave in all kinds of weather we have to be strong for them & a soft place to land when he gets home.
Now my son is following his daddies foot steps.

My hometown, Pennington.y Dad was a coal miner. He worked at Monarch, Bonnie Blue, and Kemmer Gem. He retired from Westmoreland in 1984. It was a hard living for sure. I am like Loretta Lynn, proud to be a coal miner's daughter. ❤️

Hell yeah thanks for a helluva good, real, country song. 3rd generation Ohio miner, our coal mine shut down in 16, making my dad, brother and myself move to an underground limestone mine. Not bad but sure as hell not coal!

Most on these places had no business being towns to begin with I hate it because i LOVE them, I grew up spending summers in Whitesville WV but the mines are played out in a lot of these little towns that grew up around them. That’s why a good bit of them closed down it wasn’t because of anything other then the coal seam got too narrow, to dangerous, or was just flat played out

My husband is right from that very area and in fact my inlaws still live there. He is from a coal mining family. His dad worked in the Portal 31. So we know the area so well. Such a beautiful area with so much history. Breaks my heart to see what has happened with the coal industry and how it is left those folks with nothing. Awesome video and really good song.

My husbands whole family on both sides were miners deep in the hills of KY and WV. Now they’re forced to keep on keeping known. So many have passed from black lung or killed in the mines. But they always pick up the pieces.
