@Documentary Detective III yes he is. He’s like that because he’s a new generation captain. The new generation captains are farrrrrr more understanding than old captains have ever been. Times have changed. I know this for a fact. I’ve been crabbing in Alaska since I was 18.

@Documentary Detective III I’ve met captain Campbell a handful of times in Dutch harbor and I can tell you right now he’s probably the nicest captain I’ve ever met. Even tried working on the lady Alaska but sadly he had a full crew. I work on the Brenna J now (boat not on the show) and my captains a hard ass 😂😂 not a bad thing, I know he’s that way because he needs shit to get done but captain Campbell is probably the easiest captain to work for honestly. He’s great! I hope to work for him in the future. He’s probably the nicest captain on the Bering sea and he always gets his crew paid.

Aw, that's sweet. She's clearly in a lot of pain and is genuinely trying. I've been watching this show a long time, and I don't ever remember a captain getting his crew together to rally behind greenhorns so they can make it. If a greenhorn can't cut it, they're told the job isn't for everyone and to get off the boat and that they won't be hired again. This is a refreshing change. I really hope she's doing well.

The only reason they are being nice is because she’s a woman. She is doing a good job but after watching this show enough and how greenhorns were treated it’s obvious she is treated differently. If a male greenhorn cried from crab claw pain they would say he is weak and doesn’t have what it takes.

I was the only female in my college. It was 1990, and I earned my city and guilds in car maintenance. I worked twice as hard, really because I never wanted to be seen as lagging, or a hindrance. I proved to myself that I could do it, and I did it well. I got paid the same too, so that sorts of stomps on the pay gap argument. Women in a male dominated career need to understand that men talk to each other differently, behave differently, and are surprisingly defensive of women once they trust you in their areas. It’s human nature. I decided I wanted to get married and have children. I loved fixing cars, but I lived for being a mother. No regrets.

In fact, as soon as he told them how good of a scalloper he was, bragged that crabbing ain't shit compared to scalloping, that he'd show them what a real fisherman can do, the Capt and crew of Lady Alaska offered him a full share position. Lady Alaska knew that if another boat got wind of Ronald's greatness they'd try to steal him for their own operation!

"Teamwork makes the dream work." WOW.. What a HUGE difference it makes when the Captain promotes a culture of support and positivity instead of bullying and negativity (like basically every other captain on this show aside from the Hillstrand brothers / Josh Harris).. seeing them rally behind a Greenhorn giving it 110% is so refreshing to watch.
I work in Retail Management. The store that I work in is absolutely cut-throat when it comes to management, if you're not producing results you will be demoted or even straight up fired.. I can tell you first-hand how much incredibly easier it is to get things done quickly and properly when your employees genuinely buy in to the team concept. If you're not a strong enough as a leader to keep the morale right and the focus where it needs to be, you will go down in a blaze of glory every single time. Obviously my job isn't nearly as dangerous as crab fishing, but I genuinely believe that the same exact concept applies.

Hemorrhoid cream works good for the grip👍 learned the trick from an old school fisherman few years back take it from me commercial scallop fisherman new bedford 10 yrs. You get the grip put it on the second you get off watch lather it on and massage it in real good. It works. 100 percent. Good as new after a 3 -4 hour nap depending how quick you heal 👍

Hitting your already swelling hands against metal won't be helping anything. Girl kicks ass!!Looks so painful. Great to see such team work and rally around eachother. You need the whole team to survive on those seas.

She’s awesome too. I’m a 44 year old female from the Scottish highlands and I worked on fish farms just after I had my first kid when I was 21. My spine is totally wrecked because of that and I understand how she’ll want to push through the severe pain so the boys don’t think she’s weak. I did the same thing for a long time until I quit and by then 3 of my vertebrae were beyond repair.

I’ve been fishing in Alaska since I was 18. I grew up there and love nothing more than fishing. I thought she did great for a greenhorn. She didn’t quit and really that’s all you can ask from a greenhorn. They don’t know shit and gotta learn somehow. She worked her ass off and then talking down on her just pisses me the fuck off. We need to support each other fishing. Without support everyone WILL fail. Crabber claw is such a bitch to deal with, makes it to where you literally can’t open your hand. I thought she handled it great. Props to this young lady!

What Gabby lacks in strength, she more than makes up for in sheer willpower. I once worked a job that was very demanding on both your hands and back. (Unloading freshly planted plants into greenhouses. 1 or 2 gallon buckets with 100% water saturated soil, with the minimum standard being 3 1-gallon pots in each hand and 2 2-gallon pots in each.) The job had about a 90% quit rate, as it paid crap and beat you up mentally and physically. While not as hard as crabbing I'm sure, it still sucked horribly for the 'tough' guy's ego that came in only to have myself or a female that were skinny and not as strong, run circles around the bigger, stronger guys and not have any pain while they were shaking out their hands and popping blisters non-stop. If you can survive your first 2-4 weeks of it, you start getting used to it and the pain, blisters, and working in all elements starts to go away, so only the mentally tough made it. It didn't matter how big or strong you were. It mattered how much you hated to lose or quit.

i worked at greenhouses for a long time and when i did that job i fabricated 2 racks, basically a flat square with high sides and a d handle sticking out the middle that could hold 4 3 gallon pots and would carry one in front and one behind me for the aisles were only about 3 feet wide.....for the 1 gallons id put 12-15 into a 189 liter tote and carry it in front of me lengthwise

Some of yall couldn't out last her. I've been on a boat in Alaska fishing like this. I love my bearing sea hoodie, complimented by the welding Slag holes everywhere from welding crab pots. And crab hand is the worst. It's like your entire hand is so bruised from using the muscles so much they swell up to the point where it feels like your skins pulling apart everytime you bend your fingers. And its a burn. No pain meds take it away. And the longer you let your hands rest the stiffer they get until eventually moving them makes you cry. Its terrible

Man, allot of people who have never worked a job longer than 9-5 bank jobs and it shows, when you put in these hours, your body handles new constant pain until you hit your breaking point as a green horn, she beasted through it, and the consequences are taken through your body, greenhorns on a lobster boat get the same thing banding lobsters, something so simple you wouldn’t expect to take as much of a toll on your wrist as it does when you relax, the fact she kept going back out on deck, makes her a badass, people who don’t want to work, keep walking off deck and de gearing, she faught and faught
