The scariest part of this is it suggests there could have been a different power even before Ymir and this might be a cycle that has happened many times before
What is interesting is titans are simply a product of Ymir imagination. She wanted to be strong and when you fight with swords, bigger person always gonna win. It's similar to a green lanterns power where it can create whatever from the founders imagination. Titans eat people simply because Ymir was fed to her kids. It could be a mecha show where the dude turns into a machine with guns and lasers instead of a humanoid. Idk maybe something more creative then that haha.
It's post apocalyptic, theoretically none of those technologies exist anymore. What I think would be more likely is a story paralleling Ymirs in which the boy gains the founder and we get a quick rundown before he grows old, dies, and passes it on to his offspring. Thereby starting the new story to show more or less how Maria, Rose and Sina's lives had gone.
The kid could have a similar kind of need. maybe he wants to change his world for the better and stop all the war that we see that caused the apocalypse he lives in.

It could work, although the kid likely wouldn't get a titan ability, probably something else they would need, as with Ymir, it was simply following the rules of 'bigger meant better' so she could survive, this would also be why she had regenerative abilities, so she could heal from the arrow wounds. though I'd still love to see a sequal
